So, after many Cayman and Boxster I have taken the grown up choice. Recent new Grand Daughter and wie suggesting I need a more practical car, I have ordered a new Macan to replace the 718 Cayman.
Mixed feelings really. Sign of getting older? ( 71 currently ) Can hear all of the 30 somethings saying "what are you doing with a Cayman anyway" Macan on order for October build. Hopefully I enjoy it.
Always had spots cars from MGB Elise, POrsche etc so quite a change.
Meander over, on we go.
Anyone done similar?

911 perfectly practical for 2 small children., I have 2 grandchildren.
Don’t worry about the Macan though, I had a diesel s for a day and it was a hoot to drive. I’m lucky enough tohave a Cayenne diesel S and have always enjoyed Porsche 4x4s as much as the sports cars.
I’d look at a 911 cab 1st if I were you.

My Cayman R came from Grandparents moving to a more practical Macan to fit the Grandchildren in more readily so that they could also keep their 911. The real "Circle of Life" perhaps ? smile

You've been a Porsche man for a while ,nothing wrong in sticking with them for the practical

car for later years.....smile

Let's face it ,getting in and out of a low sportscar isn't for everybody of advanced years.

Trying not to be rude about your age....cool

As a late 30 something, I'm saying 'what are you doing selling your Cayman'.....

When my GT4 arrived in 2016, I kept my Cayman R until last year. I decided that having had the R since new in 2012, it was time to move it on as while the cars were similar, they were different but not different enough. We have a dog, not a grandchild so I get the two seater dilemma. My wife suggested something practical. I said 911. She said Macan. I said GT3. She said Macan S. We agreed at Macan GTS. Spec'd it new with all the options I wanted.

To say I hated it probably understates things. It's the most disappointing car I ever owned and while my views are subjective, I'm sure there will be people who will tell me I'm wrong. I got rid of it after 2.5 months and will never go near one again. It didn't help that the PDK gear stick came off in my hand nor the fact that it went into limp mode on acceleration twice, the second nearly had me rear ended by a Freightliner truck pulling on to the A14. A Porsche, no matter what it is, should never fail on performance. Porsche fixed everything without contest but never apologised.

My wife suggested that if I wanted practicality, I should replace the GTS with something like a golf. So I did. I bought a delivery miles Clubsport S. It fits the dog just fine.

When I hit 71, I intend to still be driving something naturally aspirated and made by the GT department. I'll leave the grown up choices to the grown ups, my grand kids will get on better with a big kid anyway.

I took delivery of a 2.0 Macan earlier this year and love it - it replaced a BMW 328 Tourer. I am sure you will not be disappointed ( I have spent last couple of weeks driving a friends Merc GLC while house and dog sitting and the Macan is head and shoulders above that for feel and handling)I am lucky enough though to also have a 718 BGTS which I use as a toy for week end and mid week blasts around local B roads - great fun! Like you I am of advancing years but fully intend to stay with Porsche of some time for as long as I can afford them ( planning on a 718 PDK Spyder next year) The Macan is my eleventh and is the first Porsche I have used as a " daily driver" it is nice to be surrounded by " Porscheness" all the time !! Enjoy your Macan when you get it.

lol, when your 71 there will be no such thing.

The environmentalists and the hand wringers will have killed off anything that equates to fun way before then.

I had a Macan 2.0 petrol when I took my car into service recently and I’ve got to say that I was looking forward to driving it around for a day but after driving it home I found it very disappointing. Terrible turbo lag, not much perfomance, average handling. I left it in the garage and didn’t touch it until I had to drive it back to the OPC. To the OP - get a 911!

The answer is the Panamera.

Lower, no wider, longer than the Macan/Cayenne and extremely reliable.

Rarer (by miles) and more special too, in my opinion.

Not done it yet, but mulling something similar - currently have 991, boxster 987.2 and a landrover defender 90, but giving serious thought to losing 991 and defender to replace with macan S.
But then I walk out to the driveway and see the 991, and think, bugger it, I'm keeping it.
then think about it again the next day.

tricky one. Think I'll end up hanging on to the 991 a while yet, probably.

Sold my 997 turbo when daughter turned 12 and was to tall for the back seat to be comfortable for anything other than shirt journeys

Bought a high spec Macan turbo and love it, it’s not a 911 or a sports car but as a practical fast comfortable sporty SUV it ticks all my boxes.

Couldn’t get over the Panamera saloon looks (love the estate, sorry Sport Turismo, but that was out of price range)

A good question. His basket fits perfectly in the space where the spare tyre goes in the CSS and he seems pretty content. I can only have him on the seat in a harness in the other cars for short distances because I can't disable the airbags.
