What a palaver this 'online services' is!

6 months after getting the car we got the online services thing working by deleting the previous owner - we had to involve MI5 and the government and have 100 e mails!

So it then all works well and I get Google search 'bolt on' for the sat nav and album cover downloads for my SD card music. I try the Porsche Connect and Porsche Car Connect things too and am underwhelmed (wont unlock the car from the app even) so when Vodafone ask for £130 a month later I decline and just get a £40 40Gb data SIM that will last 18 months. All works great!

Now, 12 months later, they have just killed it remotely:

No online services despite having the data SIM installed. No Google search for the sat nav, etc etc frown

So, I have bought the hardware with teh car and i have a data connection but Porsche want money annually from me to actually use it now?

I spoke to the dealer and they confirmed as much - mentioning the Twitter connection etc. So its like buying a smartphone phone from Samsung and a data SIM from BT but if I want to use Google maps or Twitter I need to pay the hardware company £130 pa more for the privilege of using these free services using my data?

Have I got that right guys?

Thanks

Cheib

I wouldn’t be surprised TBH. I believe with BMW you have to pay a subscription to use Apple Car Play. I think the only things I use on the PCM are the Tuner and Car Play.

I think you just need to go online setup the Porsche connect account and renew the free bit if you have your own data sim.

Not 100% now but think that is what I did and it gave me google etc back.

I had the same recently when i bought the GTS

You do have to go online to porsche connect register you and your motor and there is the option for registering for the free service, i did this got a code if I remember correctly, sent through and google and the online stuff works. Still had to go through the pain of paying to have new tracker fobs and a visit to the local dealers to get that resolved. Not sure if this has changed for more recent models mine is a 2017 and i now have it free until 2021.

Now after four months of owning the cayenne I am still waiting for Porsche UK to send through the roadside assistance card despite sending them everything including my recent blood pressure scored. Still nothing despite promises from them and the AA who run the scheme.

There was an article in Autoexpress, I think, how all these car manufacturers are going to be charging subscriptions for Car Play and the like going forward. Another motoring tax to look forward to!
