Tuthill 911 - Anyone tried or own one?
Discussion
Correct, it was a 72 LHD car that was converted to RHD albeit done properly. It originally ran a 2.7 MFI motor which was sold to release some funds and the Tuthill motor with PMO carbs put in it. It’s a shame it lost the original engine as the RS spec motors are just about the best early 911 engines but the new motor is very strong and has good power delivery for road use and plenty of torque.
911R Said:
"Mate will get his 66 2.0 cup on track this year we Will see how it goes, but it's very light and has 225bhp.
Makes these 3.2 250bhp cars wonder where the power has gone on a engine that size at the prices they charge for so little bhp. "
You are the first to blat on about torque and how gutless and top end-y GT3s are for road work , yes nigh on unusable!
Now suddenly a 8500 RPM 2 litre which couldnt pull a skin off a rice pudding is the dogs bks - compared to 3.2s etc?
It will have nothing below 5, maybe 6k RPM - and will be shocking for road use. That power is all in the top end, it will
be an absolute dog on public roads!
The whole point with 3.2s or even 3.8s are the usable torque low down which makes pleasant progress while short shifting and not having to
rev it to the heavens and beyond every time you need to do a overtake....

time will tell , the cars very light at under 1000kg and he is not having race cams put in, so much less aggressive for road use.Now suddenly a 8500 RPM 2 litre which couldnt pull a skin off a rice pudding is the dogs bks - compared to 3.2s etc?

it will be a monster on the road :-) 100bhp more than the oem 66 cars of that era.
Have a go in one you might change your mind pretty quick.

Do you know of anyone wanting to sell a decent backdate? Was number2 in the queue to buy the slate grey Tuthill car. GTSJOE said:

The 912 hot rod built on previous page defo worth a close look worth every penny of asking price IMO and worth the extra outlay as you're basically buying remanufactured brand new car..
JZM's looks very nice too but its a back date again depending on quality of work you're potentially also buying a brand new remanufactured Carrera 3.2 or SC to ST spec whatever that car is based on but they're bit more bulky than earlier cars and feel different. If you're a big build I'd suggest a G series onwards but if you're a small wirey build go for the earlier car. No right or wrong
Just be very very careful what you buy,a later shell can mean less rot has been chased, and a more original tub.
Converted drive sides always has potential pit falls, really down to who has done it.
You can get a 89 tub to mimic a f series fairly easily but not cheaply, first move get the weight out of it.
Always get a pro non bias opinion on a car,not hear say on here.
Then enjoy the early car, they are not expensive to run if you buy a good one!

Incase anyone was interested/prospective buyer I understand the sale possibly fell through on the Tuthill Car at the weekend and it was back on the market at that stage.
Yes, the sale fell through, I was supposed to be the backup buyer but he took a deposit from someone else! Sale completed yesterday afternoon. finmac said:

its a very different car to a late G model or 964 backdate, much angrier and lighter.
You cant backdate weight! well you can rip everything out but I dont think a DP Lightweight type car is something that is nice to live with or go for a weekend trip in.... you want a bit of carpeting, heat, etc...
you also want a bit of bottom end grunt .

Did someone say Le Mans? Trantorman's clubbie and he Black Snake. Both saville row builds on a 993 C2 and 993 RS twin turbo prepared for the Ring 1998 record. Trantorman built our yellow car with 9m for engine and Greg Cranmer who used to be Singers UK agent. Not sure if he still is Singers agent think he may have lost it to Tuthill?
I want a 993 nowEdited by IMI A on Tuesday 21st January 08:42
