Thank you, all, for your kind and encouraging words. In answer to the question about the cost of the rebuild I haven't seen the invoice (though I know one exists), but it's apparently slightly complicated in that the rebuild was done for Dr Mark as part of the purchase price of the car. Tom thought the cost was about £12k.

Tyres is an interesting point. There's 6mm of tread but the tyres date from 2006 so Tom's putting new ones on. Can't get Conti Sport Contacts apparently so going for Michelin Sport Exaltos. Not heard of Exaltos to be honest but seem to get reasonable reviews.

It has 6” fronts with 205/55 16s and 8” rears with 225/50 16s. Personally I prefer performance over period correct, if nothing else to help cover up my ineptitude behind the wheel of a non-nannying 911. Choice is a little limiting and there is in any case a shortage of supply. I wanted Michelin Pilot Sport 4 but couldn't get the rear set so have had to go for Exaltos. No idea how good they are - better than the brittle old Pirellis that were on there I should hope.

It is indeed a sport model with the rear spoiler removed. Don't think the old whale tail is available, but swapping to the plain deck would have been one of my first jobs anyway. It has the original spec sport shocks (don't know if they are the ones supplied from new) and I'm thInking of getting CoG to refresh the lot - Bilstein/KW shocks, bushes, turbo torsion bar, drop links and whatnot. I know it's good to be original but I do like to press on when I can and modern rubber and some decent suspension makes quite a difference, certainly did with my 964.

Oh and I've ordered a Momo Prototipo, which will make every drive a workout but will look nice.

I'm looking forward to it. Plus I drive the T like a tit - far too fast for safety on the largely empty roads of Herefordshire and Radnorshire where I live. Its strong (possible only) suit is to go very fast securely. Other than that there isn't much of a sense of occasion driving it. As I near 60 I am beginning to feel it's not quite seemly to be driving a modern Porsche like a hooligan and a 31 year old 911 will be more 'wafty'. I shall open the sunroof, shove my elbow out of the window and pootle to Hay Bluff for the view. That's the idea anyway. Wait though...how about a LSD and some throttle bodies?

I know the car - and Mark - very well. Mark bought it off Nick Fulljames (it was his car). While with Nick it had a full engine rebuild, including new barrels and pistons, new clutch, heater boxes etc. Gearbox was stripped and checked too. And Nick is one of the best. It has 8s - as original for that year - not 9s on the back.
Mark had a used engine cover from another non-sport car to get rid of the spoiler - the original comes with the car (or should do). It had a full respray with Nick and has had the kidney bowls done at some stage. It also had inner wings when with 911 Virgin for the first time. He also swapped the driver and passenger set around due to wear so the control may still be on the wrong side of the seat.
Very useful information, thank you Discombobulate. I'll enquire of 911V about the original engine cover though it has not been mentioned in negotiations. I might get in touch with Nick Fulljames so that he can give me the full SP, and possibly some ideas on a tweak or two. Please let Mark know that it shall be pampered, cherished and loved.

Edited to add that the car will be back in what, I believe, was Dr Mark's birth county.

Herefordshire? He lives in Glos now. Careful he might nick it back wink
Indeed. Not far away.
