That's the whole reason whyTouring fans love the car - it's not about the looks, it's the wolf-in-sheeps-clothing-ness.
You either get it or you don't.
Indeed, for some that's exactly what it's about, me included. I spent many months looking for one with the spec. I wanted. Lowndes has done vitually exactly the same, so it must be something 980 owners see the appeal of.You either get it or you don't.
Added some light wheels and battery, small amount of interior tailoring, had the rear badge painted and the yellow belts swapped to black.
The fact 99% of folks think it's a base 911 is precisely the appeal, add in the berating Laurel and Hardy give the Touring and the appeal grows further:
Cool car 😎 enjoy

I don't :-)
it was to please the press over ltd R numbers, and when push came to shove it took very low orders,
Owners will love them as they would not have chosen one in the 1st place but it's what , 35 guys !! the rest are for sale or at OPC Directors houses !
I don't dislike it at all, I DO think it needed rear seats to set it apart from a winged one, that would have at least made sense.
When push came to shove in the end people voted with their money and bought the winged car.
the 35 owners all seem to be on here though so the views are very bias ;-) so many have R stickers also for some reason !!
so they wanted a wolf then stickered it up to look like a £300k model !!!
I just see it as a slower lesser model for more money which is what it is even the seats are the cheaper fabric the T had yuk !
It totally lacks every thing a GT3 stands for, the drama, the wings, the looks.
I get the R it was very special, the touring was pure marketing to please the press due to the R outrage.

I personally can appreciate both variations....but I do wish that the Touring was available with rear seats as a no-cost option... that would distinguish it far more...in fact it would be perfect then.
i know what you mean, but have you never tried to sit in the back of a 911 ? my kids are too big now, even the 11 year old would not be happy there. seawise said:

Also if you have rear seats you get the seatbelt mountings...which you can attached a harness bar to.... if you want to add harness for the occasional track venture. when you're done - wrap the harnesses up...flip the seats up... no-one is any the wiser!

Sounds like you are the perfect owner of a GT3 touring, using it as designed on a daily basis. That’s what so appealing of the touring model, the fact that it doesn’t have a rear wing allows it to look more suited to the everyday life on the road, you also have the great benefit that your touring has all the bells and whistles like a standard Any other standard Gt3 underneath which allows you to track it as designed. Shame they only announced it at the tail end of the production run as we might of seen more than 47 cars. I wasn’t aware so little were on the uk roads, rare old beast compared to other so called limited production models.
thanks, i try and use it as much as i can. interesting that Chris Harris chose this option as well, and is extremely fond of it (and on his 2nd after the first one met with a sad end). TDT said:
Yes - albeit a 997 GTS I owned for 3 years... rear seats would be useful for me... 2x under 5's and just have the option for the occasional short trip.

oddly i don't miss harnesses for the odd track day - i thought i would, as i always used them in previous GT3's and RS's i've owned. i must be getting slower with age....Also if you have rear seats you get the seatbelt mountings...which you can attached a harness bar to.... if you want to add harness for the occasional track venture. when you're down - wrap the harnesses up...flip the seats up... no-one is any the wiser!

Plenty of other 911s with rear seats that you can daily, GT cars shouldn't have them IMHO...
Totally agree our 991.2 which has rear seats and my kids struggle to sit in them if I’m being honest, not as bad as the Cerbera mind that’s even worse to sit in the back of due to how low the roof line is. The Macan GTS is for my daily duties or if I need to drop the kids to school.Seats in the back of 911 are pointless IMO, I only really use it for occasion storage if I’m being honest.

when people say it looks so right, it looks like a standard £50k 2nd hand 991 !!
As most people say that's too big it makes the Touring fans talk bks on what looks right as in one hand the 991 too big and now it's just right !!
make your mind up FFS :-)
we all know it looks like a standard car and that's the appeal to some, but that market is so so tiny to A: find a buyer and B then expect some one to pay £30k more, the 3 people above who would rather have one, WILL NEVER BUY ONE, they may as well be saying they would buy a la Ferrari !!!
BUt that's forums for you, people voted with their feet when it was launched and it was a poor seller that's the fact of the model and thus the overs and gaps are closing now the flippers have gone.
I think it looks meh for a £160k you would have to be barking mad.
List price, yes a great car and a valid choice and the small number who did choose that option did so because they wanted one or wanted a R to flip !!
as lets face it most were flipped.
the Touring needed rear seats it would have sold triple the amount.
I don't dislike it, I just don't get the price gap, which will soon imo be nothing.
For me, the wing just is not acceptable. You've got to respect the curves. As most people say that's too big it makes the Touring fans talk bks on what looks right as in one hand the 991 too big and now it's just right !!

I bought a Touring because it's the purest modern road going 911 outside of a 911R. I also have a 991.2 C4 GTS, and I love that too. But I would never pretend that a Carrera comes close to the Touring in either form or function. And anyone who does is either trying to get a rise, they were starved of attention as a child or they're puddled. And maybe all 3 of those things.
As someone has already said, the very fact it comes without a wing is why it has the appeal. If you're a fan of good industrial design, where less is always more desirable, then it makes for a near perfect road car. As a track car, there is an argument to be made that the winged version is more functional. But if you want to only drive it on the roads, there is nothing to match the Touring other than the R.
