Congrats mate. Lovely car. I've been toying with the idea of going to look at that, as a 991 at around £50k looks like a good buy. You've beat me to it....oh well, snooze you lose, and all that. Enjoy the new purchase. Let us know your experience when you pick it up. See if you can push me over the edge to actually make a decision! smile

Thanks, will let you know how I find it. Someone was calling OPC to deposit it yesterday as I was driving down from Manchester to view it and the guys at the OPC were good enough to still give me the opportunity as I was making the journey as opposed to turning down a guaranteed deposit over the 'phone.

Forgot to mention, also planning to put Sport Design wheel in there as standard one in Agate looks GOPPING! I can't believe Porsche signed it off when they launched the car, nothing to break it up - just looks horrid and spoils the cabin.

I'd get them to fit the exhaust and then the whole lot is covered by warranty etc.

I’d get the steering wheel done and leave everything else alone. It’s a slippery slope spending money on these upgrades and you never get it back. At £50k ish you have an amazing car at a decent price. Many will spend £70k plus and have fundamentally the same car. Save the money for tyres etc and be smug with your deal. Even if you get PSE you’ll only hanker for a sharkwerks etc!

I did exactly the same with the steering wheel on my 997 GTS...had the same hideous multifunction wheel which I changed for an alcantara Sport Design wheel before I picked it up,

Sounds like a great car, you don’t see manual cars around. When I got mine back in 2015 my OPC said I was mad not getting PDK, so pleased I stuck to my guns, having the NA engine with a manual box still feels so right.

I was looking at that one too! I think you’ve got a cracking car - I’m slightly jealous, also slightly relieved you’ve removed the temptation for me to upgrade from my 996....

Thanks fellas - the condition and history and spec felt 'right' to me hence I slapped a deposit on it yesterday rather quicker than planned.

Think I am probably going to go PSE and Steering wheel at the OPC. A big tick for me is the two year warranty and the car has been main dealer OPC Swindon all its life so I am keen to continue that.

Can I get away with Alcantera wheel even though nothing else in the interior is Alcantera? Is there a 'Sports Design' gearknob in Alcantera to match?

Can't wait to pick it up, my last 911 was 997 Gen 12S then an F430 and Caterham and about 8 Lotus. Still love the unique feel and useability of a 911.

I personally don't like alcantara on touch points like the steering wheel (they look tatty after not too long) and would therefore personally recommend the leather sports design wheel which looks great AND is durable.

Nice buy, congratulations!

To each their own I suppose, but I don't see anything wrong at all with that wheel (can't even see what you mean). The multifuncion is something I'd love to have on my 997, so much better than using the radio directly which is hard to do given the more "responsive" suspension and tiny PCM buttons. I have it on all my other cars and its the one thing I miss on my 997.

Agreed with the above that alcantara can age poorly. Really cannot see the appeal of that material, its just fake suede. Lancia used it a lot in the 80/90's and never was a great look. Don't understand why people are so infatuated with it these days.

Then again, I yearn for those brown velour interiors Mercedes had trough the 70-90s, so what do I know! tongue out

PSE is a must in sport and sport plus modes - get it done!

Maybe think about the 991.2 wheel instead? The wheel you’ve got is the multifunction one, and the sport design isn’t, so you’ll need the multifunction lever installed.

I’m going to get the 991.2 wheel done on mine in the summer.

Also learn from my mistake and make sure the PSM and Nav are fully updated as part of the deal.

As others have said, well done and congratulation!!!!
I really, really like that spec!

PSE is a must on these, get it bought!
I'd also go for the Sport Design steering wheel in full leather. For one I don't think it would march the spec of your car, but also I read stories that the alcantara doesn't wear well on Porsche wheels. And worn alcantara looks and feels hideous!!

When I recall correctly, they altered the map of the electric steering on the GT3/991.2 cars. Might be worth checking if the can flash that one for you.

Again, what a great buy!!! This is the last normal Carrera (S) with NA and manual in great condition and colour, and with the right options!!!

Thanks very much, I'm feeling like I made a good choice ...!!

Not picked her up yet - just waiting for a combined price to supply and fit PSE and Sport Design wheel.

So £3,700 to retro fit PSE and Sport Design Steering wheel (in Agate leather to match dash top) and this includes installing a secondary stalk on the column to take care of the items that would otherwise have been covered with the multi-function wheel. Individual quotes originally totaling over £4,100 so I think they have looked after me a bit with some discount.

I know the car will niggle me without PSE and with the awful current steering wheel so I have 'pushed the button' to get these done before I pick it up.

So the final spec will be pretty comprehensive I think..!

Stupid question but the new stalk on the column will be controlling what? Is it for Scrolling through menu options that the the little computer mouse style wheels at 3 and 9 o’clock on the multi function steering wheel would have done previously?

Good question in fact and I am a little ashamed to admit I don't really know..!!

Apparently some bits won't work without it and in order to keep it 'factory' I need to have it..
