Are there really 47 GT3 tourings in the UK (C16)?
Discussion
Interesting to compare the 991 Touring with the 992. Must be lots of others on here who have driven both.
I have driven both a bit. The 991 for 11000 miles from new, the 992 for just under 2000. Both manual, both with buckets (folding in the 991), both with ceramics.
Here are my thoughts, just my personal opinions of course. I’d be interested in anyone else’s views.
991 Touring
Prefer the looks, a lot.
Feels more 911 like to me, it feels really special.
Feels more hand built and better made, especially the interior, doors, dashboard etc.
Like the dashboard more in many ways, just prefer buttons to sub menus
Makes a far better noise, pre WTLP obviously.
Love the folding buckets. Great to have access to the rear space. Very comfy too.
992 Touring
Find the interior a bit plasticky.
Bigger centre screen is great, could do without all the update messages
Still don’t like the air outlets in the bonnet. Thought these would grow on me but still don’t like them. Profile of the car looks great though.
The back of the car is not as successful as the 991 in my view.
Front double wishbone suspension set up is amazing. So much more confident on turn in. The extra width at the front must also be a big factor. It seems a lot faster out in the real world. This is a huge step forward.
Engine feels much stronger and more powerful. Hard to believe it’s only a few additional bhp. Feels like a lot more. It’s a faster car.
Don’t quite know how to put this but it feels more mature and grown up.
Seems quieter on motorways. A bit more civilised for longer journeys.
992 is a big step forward but still adore the 991. They are both incredible cars.

Interesting summary, many thanks for that. Such is progress in Porsche world, new car ramps up performance which is how it should be otherwise why ‘upgrade’ ?! Of course what you didn’t mention and as reflected in the title of this thread the touring derivative of the 992 GT3 will be built in much greater numbers (a price of progress perhaps, depending on one’s viewpoint).

Lovely, looking for one at moment, however one dealer can't be arsed to text me back on one he has in stock. Bizarre, particularly when they must know what's coming.
I have come up with a great opc saving for when it gets tuff ,make cardboard cutouts of the sales staff and relocate them to the cleaning teamVisited two opc recently, all sales staff avidly looking at the computer screen,no lift of the head,no smile,no conversation, the best selling squad are the front of house staff, very welcoming, big smiles, cars are all open feel free to sit in etc.
Dont expect a call any time soon robbo,as some specialists are not much better, just think if they would ever call you back if you had a issue!

Glad it’s not just me then! I went into my ‘local’ the other day… just undergone huge redesign…. Front of house was excellent as usual… although they themselves aren’t sure that the new layout of good for customers.Visited two opc recently, all sales staff avidly looking at the computer screen,no lift of the head,no smile,no conversation, the best selling squad are the front of house staff, very welcoming, big smiles, cars are all open feel free to sit in etc.
Entire sales team just hid behind the glass.
I called two OPCs a fortnight ago with a service/warranty query - both from difference franchises. Both were supposedly busy and took messages to call me back.
Both failed to call back at all.
Called one of them a week later, got the same 'leave a message and we'll call back'. I highlighted that the last time they said that was over a week ago and I'm still waiting so no thank you. Funnily enough the lady put me through to a service agent straight away.

Only place that ever looks after you I've been is Porsche Central Operations @ Reading. You may even get the Operations Manager personally bring you a cup of coffee. Entire sales team just hid behind the glass.
Trouble is there’s currently a lot of new Porsches being delivered to OPCs after long lead times. Wait a few months for a lull as they’re currently just catching up on orders placed when times were better and PCP rates were much lower.
Things are going to look very different in a few months time after current orders have been fulfilled.

Yes good point Seawise a lot more 992’s around. I was at Topaz Bristol two weeks ago and there were three there!Relic said:

Can second this - great summary comparison. Only thing to add is that the gear shift in my 991 is very loose and the gearstick moves a lot when going on and off the accelerator. The 992's gearbox is properly tight - much more fun to use. The plasticky interior of the 992 made me go carbon interiorI have driven both a bit. Service has improved to the point where they will now call you back if you make an enquiry on a car. Back in May they wouldn't call back.Things are going to look very different in a few months time after current orders have been fulfilled.
They're not quite chasing business (like salespeople in any other industry do!) yet, but maybe that's coming.
Wondering however, whether they will. If supply is till below a contracted level of demand, they'll continue as they were.. premiums and lists may come down a BIT, but not a lot...
