The Cup2R's seem to be delivering around an extra 0.4g ...
Interesting also that the step-change from Porsche appears to be that the new GT3 matches the previous version GT3RS ring-time .... ?
Regarding older models, we need factors for changes in the circuit and tyres.
I wonder what a 996.1CS could do on Cup2R's ?? I notice when edging 2g laterally there was noise of either kerb or tyre-in-arch rubbing with the 992 ...

Those look like Cup2 tyres on the preview to the SportAuto lap. 210 treadwear no "R" in a block on the sidewall and the channel between the outer block of teh front tyre and the next block is much wider than the CupR tyre...
Not a bad lap given Christian did 7.06 in the 991.2 GT3RS so a second quicker. SportAuto lap times always 3-4s slower than factory driver but Christian is super consistent.

I've been intrigued as to why Porsche haven't posted any Nurburgring lap times for the 992 Turbo S since launch.
Was it too fast?
Sport Auto did. The 992 TS was slower than the 911.2 TS . This was down to tire choice. The 2 TS does not come with the sticky stuff as option anymoreWas it too fast?

The problem with using compounds that are closer to full slick is that they go off so quickly. The original cups were fantanstic for consistency. You could get 3-4 days out of a set of fronts and 2-3 out of a set of rears in a GT3. Never a problem of them going off during a session and you would generally only lose a second or so over the whole life of the tyre. The cup 2 is not as consistent. Even in my 964 they go off after 4 or 5 laps that will be worse in a GT3. The R will be worse still. The downside of a slick compound is that grip falls off substantially once the get past their window and generally have less grip than a Cup tyre after a few hours - maybe 3-4 if its a Dunlop. I can see the R being OK for the ring as it's not that hard on tyres there - and these days everything is about the 'ring time'. On a normal give and take circuit i'm not sure they are great idea. He does in some spots and in others, he does it himself.... you can hear he runs it bouncing on the limiter through one section at around 5m55 on the video.
I genuinely think that was in error rather than deliberate. he shift's down into Hohe Acht, but then just seems to miss/forget to upshift on way out.Steve Rance said:
