Question is G will the GT3 take a backseat when your Emira arrives? biggrin:
I doubt it!

I am actually contemplating cancelling my V6 FE Manual and moving to the base AMG queue, I feel the Emira won't be different enough to my Exige apart from feeling like an overweight Exige with more toys and blunted performance. As such I am somewhat tempted to just move to the BASE AMG queue and then spec the car exactly how I want it and get the benefit of shorter gearing and less weight, plus probably save 12-14k in the process and have a car very different to my Exige.

Going to wait until Top Gear review airs next Sunday to see what Harris thinks of it, having driven a few Evora 410's which do drive beautiful with the only weakness been the interior and lacking all out firepower, I feel the Emira will drive the same (great stuff) with a nicely put together cabin, but with an Exige, GT3 and 458 plus other cars I can jump into I feel the Emira won't offer much over my other cars but would offer something different and unique with the AMG power plant, plus it means if there are any issues on FE cars they should be ironed out once base cars are been built and delivered, will also mean I can get a test drive before totally committing to one.

The lack of raving reviews does make me think any overs potential on first cars will be somewhat little / minimal, but who knows car world is still somewhat crazy and the Emira is one hell of a stunning car in the flesh and so many people are only interested in looks and sound.

Yes these days the abilities of a car as a package is rarely reflected in the actual value or price asked imo and the Emira should do well on drop dead looks alone even if it is admittedly a slightly flawed (or idiosyncratic? biggrin: ) package overall.

As you know for various reasons I've also deferred my Emira order until Spring 2023 and am also wavering between the V6 and i4 although the fact that the V6 will only probably be made until c2026 and the i4 until appoaching 2030 means inevitably there will be alot more 4 cylinder cars around and you could always change up to an upgraded and more powerful i4 (GT4?) in a few years and the manual v6 will always be relatively desirable and hold its value well imo if you need to sell it on.

Obviously the Emira is no comparable to the GT3 or GT4 but certainly a nice usable alternative with stunning looks for sure.

I think as a road car and all round package the Emira will be a truly epic car, but it won't compete at track level with any GT Porsche product, probably even be behind the GTS, but as a road car it should be as good to drive and as much fun as any GTS. They will both be so good it is best that people just buy what they want and not what they feel pressured to buy.

I bought a 991.1 GT3 yesterday, dealer wouldn't shift on price but after seeing two others I had my eye on get sold before I could view them I just took the plunge.

If you see the right car… just buy it.

Was looking, found the right spec car, although mileage was slightly high, but given where prices have now gone… I should have bought.
It was sat for ages… and then when I did finally decide to go make final offer on the Tuesday, it had literally just sold the Saturday. Gutted.

Unlucky T, but that says to me that the car/price wasn't quite right otherwise you'd have snapped it up sooner...

Such great cars, put 5,000 km on mine in the past month (alps trip and Le Mans 24hr). Didn’t miss a beat, and reasonable MPG on Peage (to get to Monaco) sat at 140-145 kmph (high 20’s mpg) 11 hours in one hit so comfy too.

It really is a great all rounder, can cruise and then demolish the twisties.

Ooof now you’re asking! I should have saved the spec list from the advert but the dealer’s already taken it down. I can say what it *doesn’t* have - PCCB, CS, and bucket seats. In fact, I think it was pretty much the complete opposite to all the things I thought I wanted. However, after I’d viewed (and sat in) the car I started asking myself if I really needed a roll cage and a fire extinguisher, or an even tighter seat with harnesses, and brakes that can take a much harder hammering - and the answer was no.

More importantly it’s white with black wheels, no gaudy interior bits (I’d have preferred the smoking package because it would be handy for my house keys), and it’s got a FSH.

Here’s a few photos…..

Looks good, I was a little worried about my GT3 having steels, having owned a few Porsches all with ceramics.
In hindsight it was never a worry because at least on the GT3 the steel brakes are superb, instant bite and just as crazy stopping power, I'd also argue and say they had more feel too. Only real downside for myself is the brake dust.

On my Spyder the ceramics make a lot more sense as they are literally double the size of the factory steels in both calipers and disc size, so are a welcome improvement, but on the GT3 the actual braking performance between steels and ceramics seems no different to me.

Enjoy it, also on steels you truly can hammer them, as replacement cost are a fraction of ceramics.

I switched my PCCB's off my 997.1 GT3 for Alcon steels. Obviously, these were gen 1 ceramic brakes and are not the same as fitted to the 991 cars, but I found bite was a bit less, but feel was definitely better.

Loving all the stupid stripes and graphics guys. Keep rocking the vinyl! thumbup

Ceramics do bite a little better when hot, on track, typical road conditions the steels bite better for me, but it is so close to call it is really neither here or there, for me it is the feel that gives steel the edge and lack of brake dust that gives ceramic the edge.

The stupid stripes are worth at least 100HP though yes? biggrin

Dust definitely and also not having to dry brakes off when you put car away after washing.

I must have the wrong stripes. In fact, you'd think they were made from something orders of magnitude heavier than high-grade Uranium.

For a bit more bite or power with steels, particularly in the first part of the pedal travel, try switching to braided brake lines. I've just done that on my 718 GT4, along with better brake fluid, and on the road the pedal feels a bit firmer and more solid but still with plenty of feel and room for modulation.

I've not tried them on track yet, but I expect to them to be a bit more consistent. Even with my average driving the pedal started to feel a little soft after a few sessions. I'm hoping this mod will prevent that.

As for stripes, I'm a fan wink

Which ones did you fit? Goodridge? Tempted to do this, I had braided hoses fitted on my Elise and they did make a noticeable difference for very little cost.

I fitted Manthey lines as I like to keep things Porsche if possible, but Goodridge would be just as good obviously. We have Goodridge on our Focus RS and they're brilliant.

I ended up with steels as well, i would have been happy with either to be honest but as mentioned for 99% of instances steels are more than good enough. A friend had PCCB and on track and up to temp they are very good. Seems PCCBs are alot more common on .2 than .1 GT3, brake dust however is annoying and especially with silver wheels.

Is a 997.2 GT3 a good buy at the moment?

Seem to be £110-150k

Will these Porsches hold in the long term?

RPM seem to be having trouble shifting the two they have...so even the 997.2 GT3 market can cool fast and that models been particularly 'fizzy' this last 18 months.
