£1100 for ceramic coatings, they saw you coming!

Ceramic coating is nearly worthless on top of PPF, only get it if they are nearly throwing it in! You just dont need it. My mate Liam (Hi Liam) wouldn't listen to me, he's convinced himself it is better, but then hes never had PPF before either wink.

Even the guy at NVN told me its not needed.....

I am going Topaz again on mine, they are giving me a 10% discount for being a returning customer, so it makes it cheaper than all the others, getting full coverage, no snake oil (ceramic) for me, 4 years of washing a car with PPF has taught me you dont need it. Also paying for covered transport to ensure I dont get any stone chips on the way there, that happened last time, but luckily it was under the mirror so you couldn't see it.

My car should be built now I think, I still cant see it in the Porsche app though, salesman said he cant send me the invitation. Looks like the first time I'll see any pics of it will be after I see the car itself.

Sold my current GTS via Carwow, would highly recommend them, they are very easy to deal with, and got me a decent price for the car, more than any OPC were prepared to pay.

I suppose I could have broken it down better, that £1100 does include a new car detail and paint correction (if necessary) before PPF is applied and then Ceramic Coating on top. I agree it's expensive but it is what it is. As someone else said earlier, any problems later on then I simply take it back to OPC to sort, then they deal with Topaz. The car is collected from OPC and dropped off to them under covered transportation and so that's something I don't need to arrange either.

There's a special Ceramic Coating for cars covered in PPF, GTecniq HALO it's called and then you have your regular coating over paint. I believe there are some benefits of Ceramic Coating on top of PPF, but it's not a must have. One doesn't replace the other and they are totally different products, some people often get confused between the two.

Yes, this is what I'm having too. Some outfits call it the 'Track Pack', some call it the 'Full Front and extended sills kit'.
How much are you / anyone here paying for this?

I'm being quoted £3500 by OPC for track pack, which seems high, but am not an expert in PPF.

Would definitely rather go via OPC if at all possible for ease.

Thanks.

I paid £2800 inc stage one paint correction and full ceramic coating + glass, wheels and callipers. OPC in Reading was £3500 for track pack only! Madness.
Thanks. Think I must be being quoted the Reading number. Will connect with Topaz. Can anyone recommend anywhere else in London? Ideally South or West. Thanks.

My current cars have have all got ppf track pack and rear bumper with ceramic coating to the upper body, all done with Topaz Bristol. The whole job is top notch with no quibble warranty on the work unlike some !. The ppf has a different type of GTecniq Ceramic coat on top of the ppf which IIRC is more flexible than the ultra hard coating over paint.

Based on my experience I would only use Topaz Bristol who are exceptional to deal with on all levels. As in everything in life, again in my experiences you only get what you pay for and if you buy cheap you always end up buying twice !!. This is something I wish I'd known thirty years ago when I started off in business.

Hey Taffy,

Good to hear your feedback, it's a first time for me going through this process of PPF and Ceramic, but I'm glad you are happy with yours because that's exactly where mine is going, Topaz Bristol.

I know there are plenty of other good accredited companies out there and I would have considered them too, just that my OPC uses these guys so seemed the easiest option, even if it's a bit more expensive.

Topaz just quoted me £3k + VAT for front, sills and part of rear wing. Can you tell me what they're doing for the £2500ish, and does that include VAT? Thanks.

That breaks down as £2500 to Topaz and £1k OPD profit. Cut out the middle man and go direct to Topaz.
I hear you re cutting out the middle man. The £3500 is XPEL, not Topaz. Just spoke with Topaz but the quote I was given seems higher than what some people here have been paying. But I don't know the exact packages they're getting.

I'm going through my dealer and they're doing me a 'special' price, so they say anyway. I haven't gone directly to Topaz. But PPF covers the full front end, side sills and extended wheel arches. I'm not having any coverage on the rear wing. And yes, it does include VAT.

Topaz are great, fully recommend them, like I said, my current GTS was done by them 4 yrs ago and its as good as the day I had it albeit with 1 edge thats started to lift slightly in a non conspicuous area, under their warranty I could get it fixed, but you cant see it, and ive sold the car now anyway.

I just dont believe in needing Ceramic coating over PPF, having had PPF for 4 years, its doesnt need anything on top of it, the PPF does everything you need to protect the paint, and already makes it easier to clean, I just dont see the benefit, I see it as a waste of money as well as PPF, but thats obviously just my personal opinion, but it is based on experience, its just something extra for them to sell and make a bit more money out of you, as its a very good money earner, the raw materials are very cheap.

I am having full coverage again, the PPF does slightly change the look of the car, not in a bad way, more glossy if anything, but if you only get part of it done, youre going to notice it more than if the whole car is done. In for a penny......plus you know that the chances are, youre going to get a stone chip on the bit you didnt cover, thats just sods law.

Seeing the interior with the all new dash, would there be a 2023 model for the GTS with newer changes if any?

Unlikeky as the GTS appears at the end of the model cycles. So you get a GTS in the last 2 years of the model when it is .1 and .2
But on the good side when the GTS comes out you know the new model is coming

Question!

When you get the stage 3 email and the dealer tells you to confirm the spec of your order how long are you looking for the build to complete / delivery?

Thought you all might like to see my 992 GTS Manual Cabrio as it is now. Im about 2.5 months into ownership, and it's just incredible. Great daily driver (I work at home, don't commute!) and live in the hertfordshire countryside, so a good location to use it smile

I really dislike black wheels, its a personal thing, it's a bit 'Essex' for me, also it means the definition of the wheels is lost, which is a bad thing when you have RS Spyders, as they are such a great design. So after two very minor curbs to the fronts, I took the chance to change them to GT3 silver effect (done by an exceptional company locally, top quality job) and while there to match I also had them change the badging to silver to match, and the decals on the side as well. Decals had to be traced by their friendly wrapping company and reproduced as you apparently can't get them from porsche, or the badges, but they managed to track them down through their contacts.

For me, the car now looks just incredible. Will probably be at the TIPEC meet at the Ace Cafe on Monday 27th, say hello if you see me!
