How would you spec your 992 GTS?

How did you get rid of the diaphragms in the rear arches as I too find the background noise rubbish but exhaust noise is great
there is around 3 or 4 in each arch, under the plastic wheel arch liner.i just covered them over with closed cell foam
i think the idea is to make the gts sound more raucous than it would be,
wrong type of noise for me anyway, the over 2db noise reduction makes a massive difference to the whole car
no more industial deafness after being in it for 6 hours

I drove to Germany and back in mine, circa 12 hours each way of driving. Can't say I experienced this but we're all different. Didn't even have my music too loud, volume was on about number 14 on the Bose system. In the process of covering up the inside of your wheel arches, did you notice the rain sensors? There are supposed to be rain sensors in there which detect the amount of spray and therefore prompts you to switch to Wet driving mode in the car. I got caught in a rain storm on the way back from Germany and the car asked me to switch to Wet mode, which I thought was sensible at the time as it was torrential rain.

you must be a young lad then being able to tolerate the white noise. In the process of covering up the inside of your wheel arches, did you notice the rain sensors? with the gts, there is nothing on the outer part of the arch,no rubber deadening just bare.
the air filters are under the rear part of the liner and the sensors are located just above the suspension arms on the inner part of the arch

41 here so I don't know if that is considered young anymore lol.with the gts, there is nothing on the outer part of the arch,no rubber deadening just bare.

Thanks, good info about the inside of the arches and well done for having the skills to do what you did.

the closed cell foam weighs nothing and is waterproof, the silver stuff takes the ding out of the panel.
before fitting it was registering 75.8 db at 70mph,
after fitting it was 73.2db at 70mph on the same bit of road.
you can feel/hear the difference as soon as you pull out the drive
We must have the same sound meter. My car is 75db at 70mph on a smooth A road near me..!before fitting it was registering 75.8 db at 70mph,

I don’t think it’s an exclusive problem to a 992 GTS though. My Cayman 987 on 19” PS4S is 78db at 70mph on the same road, and is perceptibly louder.

i have a calibrated one and leave it sticking upward in the central cup holder so i get repeatable results.I don’t think it’s an exclusive problem to a 992 GTS though. My Cayman 987 on 19” PS4S is 78db at 70mph on the same road, and is perceptibly louder.
it does seem to be a porsche thing leaving out a bit of sound proof to make it sound and feel more racey
having had stripped out race cars on the road for years as you get older it does get a bit wearing

This sounds like a great idea to reduce road noise @Turbospud. Any chance you could do a more complete run through of the process to do the noise reduction? ??. Is there more insulation in that area in a base or S etc? Many thanks.
there is not a lot too it, take the wheels off,
liner is held on with 10mm plastic nuts and torx screws
then you see whats in the pics above,i just put the deadening where the liner covers it,
sticks on dead easy and adds virtually nothing in weight terms
this is the stuff i used

well worth the afternoon it takes to do it
Did you remove the centre locks yourself Turbospud?
If so, what torque wrench kit are you using for it?
I know it’s a bit of a process and ball ache for removal and refit of the CL wheels having watched a few videos on it.
I have contemplated getting something just if I ever fancy removing the wheels for a proper DIY detailing session, but then I bottle it because the process looks too hard and I wouldn’t want to mess anything up.

i would say its easier than undoing 5 studs, the socket for centerlock nut is under the bonnet. If so, what torque wrench kit are you using for it?

all you need is a 3/4 breaker bar and a digital torque wrench or multiplier.
my tip would be to mark the wheel and the hub with a marker pen and also the nut on the wheel.
then when you refit and retorqe it its usually very close.
also cleanliness is important, dont let dirt get near any of the parts and dont use too much grease when refitting
