It looks rubbish - but also sad that the lovely sweet 911 that Butzi Porsche originally designed has become so big and self-indulgently styled

couldn't agree more. I am all up for evolution and I understand regulations push designs in certain ways but boy has the 992 become peak 911ugliness in my opinion.

You seem to inadvertently found yourself on the wrong thread yet again…!

Saw an unsold one in a dealer showroom yesterday, oddly despite 992 base / s / t all having extended leather the GTS doesn’t.

It doesn’t look nice with a plastic dash, huge miss when car was festooned with 20k of other options etc.

I keep looking at looking to switch from the GTS (Targa) to this; https://jzmporsche.com/cars/porsche-9912-p0464/

Something in the back of my head keeps telling me it would be a mistake though. Less practical, although thats not really a concern, but the lack of roof in summer months is. I've grown to love the Targa for everyday use, and genuinely struggle to think of something to replace it with, hence having another on order, unless of course I massively up the budget to an 812GTS, but that ain't happing anytime soon with the kids in private education, and the eldest looking at some seriously expensive oversees universities in the next couple of years.

Why order a targa GTS when you already have a targa GTS? Different generation?

I like it, and with waiting lists like they are then it's a no brainer to have cars on order IMO. You can always kick them back in the queue it your slot opens up and its too early for you, but its a lot harder to get an earlier slot.

Will likely wait for the Gen 2 to be honest, dependant upon when its released.

Have you driven a GT3? The GTS Targa and the GT3 are close to as diametrically opposed as you'll get in the 911 world.

If I could only have one car it'd be a GTS Targa (or, more likely, a DBS wink) but given I'm fortunate enough to have two cars it's GT3 all the way

Do you have a good state school locally? Because an 812 gts would really blow the doors off...

Thats the issue. I want to own a GT3 but know it really wouldn't be the car for me, as have little intention of doing track days, etc. The Targa is pretty much perfect for everyday... fast enough for any UK road, 4 seats (at a stretch), open top when suited (without being as exposed as a cabriolet). The same goes with the Turbo S really, as again would love one but know it wouldn't offer me anything better than the Targa in 99% of real life scenarios, and would be lacking in a great amount of time.

Re the 812GTS, we can dream.... and the other (used) models around the same price of the Targa are of little interest to me aside from the F12, but then I'd back to the same issues as the Turbo S only with increased ownership costs.

It sounds like you already have the perfect car for you smile

I do think the GT3 is still a really fab road car and I barely track mine personally, but it does have a very different character, it really does come down to individual preference. The Turbo S for example leaves me stone cold.

The F cars are wonderful, but it's next level public attention, which you may or may not relish

Nice spec there and a great colour. I’m on track to pick mine up on 1st March and am quite looking forward to it.

What is the process for the order and making any changes. You have given them your £5000 with an estimated delivery date in the future. What is next, email more official paperwork and how are they with changes to the spec, implications for delivery and cut-off dates for changes. I have plenty of time having ordered in Dec 22 and estimate as last a first quarter 2024.

Once I had my allocation, I was given an estimated delivery date and also a lockdown date before which I had to finalise my spec.
I can’t really say what the spec change implications would have been as I knew exactly what I wanted when I placed the order, however I have heard that in the past some options could have an impact on delivery dates- I’d like to think that your dealer would tell you if this affected your build.
With regards to paperwork etc.. I signed and received a copy of the original order form followed by a letter from the dealer informing me that my order had been placed., then just before the lockdown date I was asked to check and confirm the order form again.
Correspondence has been via email and WhatsApp (my preference as I work away) and I’ve been kept up to date every few weeks with progress reports (when the build started).
What I would say is be patient (my order was placed in July 2021) and order the car you want!
Good luck and I hope your car arrives sooner than estimated.

Many thanks for your help and good to know. I am actually in no rush and early 2024 is ok and I don't say that so I think I'll get a dot 2. My spec is pretty much there, it is just trying to make sure I have interior leather right as I want leather dash, but not to go to crazy. My old 8 series had this so I think it would be a bit down market after that. I am also probably going to go with factory ppf as I have read on the PC forum non-factory can be an insurance modification issue. Here is the current spec: https://cc.porsche.com/icc/ccCall.do?userID=EG&amp...

Interested in a Q1 2024 delivery. Did they say they thought it would be a Gen 1 car and that they would still be building Gen 1 cars then please, also what they do with your order/deposit if not?

They were, understandably, non-committal on the .1 or .2. As I currently live in Bavaria I read a lot on the .2 here as well and even they are unsure! I have also asked in DEU OPCs and it is unclear. Same old issues arise re deliveries and specs and OPCs processes for securing orders and delivery times.

Yes, was in two minds about the yellow but thought I’d go with something different. I do like your red, 1st March is nearly here too!

I’ve optioned the racetex with extended leather which is essentially the GTS interior without the carmine / crayon stitching, rev counter, chrono clock and also the carbon inserts, the reason being is I’m not fussed on the carbon or coloured stitching and wanted to spec guards red clocks - luckily the dealer had a Miami blue car in with this interior option (without guards clocks) and it looked great.
I have heard that some insurers are being a bit awkward regarding PPF but this isn’t something I’m having installed so not a concern.

TBH I’d take one in most colours but Red and yellow have always been my 1st and 2nd choice.
