The too big thing is a bit of a myth if you check the dimensions, it is bigger but not by much in the grand scheme of things.

It’s all relative though isn’t it? Last “purist” car would arguably be a late 80s 3.2 Carrera?

Have to say that when I ordered my T back in 2017, I did so on the basis that I expected 992 to be bigger, more luxurious, even faster, more electronics, more of a GT car and, excellent as they are, I wasn’t far off the mark.

My T hits the spot for me, and compared to Porsche’s latest offerings, looks “petite” and old fashioned already!

Will be interesting to see the 992T and what it has to offer.

I don’t see the point in a 992 Carrera T ……. The 992 is just to big, luxurious and high tech to have a poverty spec T badge on it….just sounds wrong.

I think porsche will introduce other new models like the 992 911 safari seen testing recently.

Also they have announced you can spec all the light weigh options on a GTS. So that is the 992 T replacement.
But the GTS is what…£30k more than the T might be.

We caught up with Achleitner at Porsche's Rennsport Reunion late last month. He was a bit tight-lipped on the forthcoming 992, but he gave us a few nuggets of information. When we asked him if the Carrera T would return, he said "absolutely."

I knew the Taycan was big but didn’t realise it was that much bigger! Puts it in perspective, the 991 looks so dainty in comparison.

The 5 cm additional width of the 992 will only make it more aggressive looking to my eyes. I love my T and am pretty excited about the new one.

Porsche are on a roll at the moment the new GT3 is an absolute weapon and looks just fine I reckon!

Presumably the T would be manual - thereby saving about 90lbs over the PDK and contributing to the ‘light 911’ ethos….

Ooh. Do tell. I’m test driving a boggo Carrera next weekend so will hold off doing anything if T launch coming up. As long as no nutso pricing.

Been told from OPC if not delayed due to other model delays will be announced 4Q this year. Deliveries Q2 2022 at the earliest. No details of spec yet. Ask your OPC to confirm when you test drive .

I spoke to Porsche at the Salon Prive event last week.

They said there are no plans for 992T and the 991 T was a one off heritage model.

That’s what they said.

Wouldn’t surprise me the world has changed big time hasn’t it. I have a deposit down but can’t see it happening now, they’re struggling to get any cars.

I'd say you're misinterpreting the numbers. As a for instance, according to the stats on the website you linked, the 997 narrow body coupe is circa 6cm wider than 993 narrow body coupe, while the 992 is circa 5cm wider than the 991. In that regard, then, the jump from 991 to 992 is similar to the jump from 993 to 997. Likewise, the 993 is taller than the 992. So clearly that figure doesn't tell you much about overall size.

By your rationale, then, a 997 isn't much bigger than a 993 and you're on the path to coming to the conclusion that 992 isn't really that much bigger than an aircooled car, which if you've seen the two parked next to each other, is a faintly ludicrous notion.

A few cm extra across certain measurements makes for a much, much bigger car in reality. The 992 is a big old thing and the on-paper numbers don't really capture that reality.

There’s bound to be a 992T - The Porsche process is now very formulaic, and the 992 could do with a simplified model at the ‘base’ end of the range.

I believe there have been several mentions of it being announced in November, but agree, this could well be delayed a bit.

992 T may not be a bad shout for those prepared to wait who want a new car especially having regard to the currently insanely high prices on the 991.2.

BTW the potential classic and collectable status of the 991.2 was predicted 3 years ago (despite being poo poed by many lol) due to last of narrow body and limited numbers although obviously prices have been boosted by the overall strong used car market and severely limited number of new 911s generally.

Quite bizarre that the 991.2 was viewed initially as a flop with new sales struggling and in fact quite a few cars hung around unsold and there were quute a few cancelled orders. Some lightly used and decent spec bucketed cars actually exchanged hands in the mid £60ks at under 12 months old showing over £30k depreciation.

they'd be mad not to, from their perspective it's an easy way of selling a few more base models - they could even do it like they have with the cayman/boxster and add nothing more than fabric door pulls and a sparse interior

The used values are still shooting up at the moment.

Some cars are getting close to their original retail price.

Wouldn’t disagree the 992 is definitely a big car.
