ok looking to fit Pipercross air panel filter in stock air box

1) i know prob no power gains
2) heard oil can mess with MAF true /false ?
3) does create induction noise but.....some say it sounds crap when you have performance exhaust system is this the case ?

several people (including me) on 911uk.com have fitted BMC panel filters to the standard airbox, better quality than Pipercross IMO

thanks , do you have a sport exhaust system ? doing my research and they say just the filter adds nice induction noise but put that with a sport system and it sounds terrible ? just trying to establish if buying a panel performance filter would be a nice upgrade and little more noise or ruin my set up (i have stainless headers sport 200cell cats and mild stainless sport boxes)

Have you blocked off the air box resonator pipe? I did it after reading that it made a nice improvement / increase in induction sound, although I never drove the car with it as a K&N kit came up very cheaply. I know it does nothing to increase power (and may even rob it of 1 or 2 bhp) but it sounds glorious. How K&N can justify over £410 for a plastic pipe and a cone filter though I don't know? I paid 80 and even that was almost too much for me.

I have a Hartech 3.9 rebuilt engine with TopGear manifolds, Dansk sport boxes and the resonator delete (in a 997 airbox) - sounds good to me!

I bet. Sounds good to me also. What sort of power does it make?

Very nice.

Did you fit bigger inlet manifolds? Like X51 type?

The resonator delete made more difference the the overall noise than I expected. However I can only hear the difference when the valves are closed on the back boxes. That’s with TopGear 200 cell X-pipe cats and valved back boxes.

Not sure what size X51 manifolds are but these are TopGear standard ones on their website, the engine was mapped by Wayne at Chipwizards as part of the work done at Hartech.

I don't think it gets much better than that to be honest.

I only ask as I have a few X51 bit in the hope that I might one day be able to afford a build like yours.

2 Overoiling after cleaning can mess with the MAF but shouldn't be an issue if cleaned/oiled properly
3 Sounds fine on mine- TG mild boxes, K&N filter, resonator delete
