After a lot of thought and man-maths I’ve decided to take the plunge and get my Targa roof looked at; it moves, but its very slow (slower than it should be) and sticks open, especially in the wet.

My local specialist told me he won’t touch it with a barge pole (he was actually much ruder 😥); is there anyone out there who is considered a specialist at this?

I appreciate it’s a devil of a job and can go pear shaped so I really want it with someone who knows what they’re doing on this specifically.

Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers

There is a very knowledgeable PH'er I recall with these.
Can't recall his username.

Called Mark.
I think he also worked for Precision Porsche. Try them ?

Now that’s interesting; they’re about 5 minutes away. Definitely worth a drive over.

Cheers

At Precision Porsche it’s a guy called Iain (aka Demort on 911uk) - he did a friends 996 Targa a few years ago (& we travelled down from the Midlands for this). I think Precision/Iain have probably worked on more Targas than most OPCs and Pork specialists & know the process very well. Our local ex OPC techie didn’t want to touch the Targa roof & courtesy of the 911uk forum found Iain/Precision.

It’s a few years since I’ve used them but there is/was a chap called Greg at Tognola in Windsor who was an expert on the 993 Targa roof.

I had a 996 Targa and roof got stuck, took to an Porsche dealer and they made a big mess of the roof. So much so that I had to sell the car. So be very careful who you ask. I really hope you havent got my old car (Silver !)

My OPC was quite transparent actually; if ‘they’ did it they’d send it somewhere else as it was not the sort of thing they want / are able to do, so I’d pay their rates for an independent job.

It’s only your car if it was so bad someone resprayed it blue as well!

You could try Ray Northway near Aldermaston if you are anywhere near.

Bought my 997 Targ from him.
I am not sure he tackles fixing them. Général approach is to repLace the whole ‘cassette’ from rear view mirror to back glass latch at multi-thou iirc
