All the 997.2 are going... There was a lovely Agate grey not clubsport but had buckets listed last week and was on for all of an hour. Still under Porsche warranty - I suspect it was the same car porsche sold around a year ago. Had about 20k miles on the clock. £110k. Strong money for none CS!
This car was Atlas grey. I enquired and it had gone... For road use, a GT3 with folding buckets but no CS would actually be my preference over a CS car.

I’m saying that driving around a banked track at at any speed doesn’t magically conjure up non-existant aero/downforce. Centripetal and/or centrifugal force does however provide the same “stuck to the Tarmac” feeling that aero does … and I suspect our contributor is most likely confusing the two smile

But if Millbrook isn’t banked, I’m wrong !! biglaugh
Yep it's banked...if I had of seen the downforce data before hand I am not sure I would have driven so fast on the bowl biglaugh
I am surprised that out of all of them the 7.1 doesn't produce any.
Does this mean it is superior to the rest as it doesn't need wings to keep it from flying away?hehe

Not quite what it is saying is the front lip and rear wing are preventing lift.
Which at the time was a significant improvement over the 996 variant

Never understand the Clubsport premium over a non Clubsport? Nomex fabric seats that do not wear well, a cage and extinguisher that just get in the way and harnesses that are a right faff. Happy with my leather and Alcantara folding buckets with exactly the same engine and performance as a Clubsport.

The OEM cage and fire extinguisher add around 22 kg too, if that’s important to anyone. A non-CS spec GT3 with buckets will probably feel a bit lighter to drive than a CS. You’d lost a bit of rigidity in the body without the cage but nothing hugely noticeable

Weight of the cage is offset by the far lighter buckets

My nomex seats look brand new - nearly 40k miles in. Leather ones would have likely gone shiny/ripped etc. Alcantara doesnt last either sometimes - all depends who has used it and abused it guess!

Daft conversation, the weight and ability of the driver will be a much bigger factor than the weight difference between CS and non CS.

I actually like the "race car innit" presentation of the CS, simple as. I certainly don't try and make any claims as to being an objectively better car.

Also, it's not compulsory to wear harnesses in a CS, they do have normal seatbelts too biggrin

My 14 year old nomex is also in fine fettle thank you smile

For me its all part of the theatre. If I was looking for a GTS I'd want one with an alcantara wheel and carbon seats... CS all the way.

Can always remove the cage and store it but buying a cage for a non CS car...genuine seem to fetch around 5k alone if you can find one! And Carbon buckets seemingly exchange hands for 8k+.

However, I will reiterate what I have said before. If you find a really well looked after GT3 don't let the CS snobbery put you off. They're hard to find! Buy a car based on condition and you will be happy.

I looked at 3 CS 997 GT3s fitted with the folding buckets and all had holes or the start of a hole in the seat material on the drivers seat from where previous owners had climbed in and out of the car. Cars were at JZM and RPM and both told me that this was common on folding buckets. I don’t think this is a problem with the lightweight buckets? I assume CS cars can be fitted with either type of seat? Agree that condition is key, and some low mileage cars I looked at did not seem as well presented as some higher mileage examples, and I did get the impression that some low mileage cars had been well used on track and not treasured like some higher mileage cars with less track use.

My nomex LWB have a couple of small holes on the edge of the driver's seat - the area that is scrubbed when you push yourself in/out. I imagine any sort of loose key/metal hanging out your back pocket would do this fairly easily. I have a removable leather protector over it which takes the wear now.

Or, you get in and out of the bucket seats without touching the bolsters. One hand on the inside bolster, one hand on the sill. My car has folding buckets and 75k miles with no scuffing or tears on the bolsters.

My "how not to wear the bolster on a Porsche bucket seat .. RHD
1. Door open
2. Left leg in car
3. Right hand on sill and swing bottom over the seat edge and into the bucket.
4. Shut door.

Exit .. reverse the process

But to be fair, I have seen quite a few badly worn seat edges on fairly low mileage cars ... mine was almost like new at 34,500 miles ...

Yes, I have seen that somewhere before. The rear end reminds me that I think I prefer the gen 1 bumper shape, but the 3 vents on the gen 2 look nice and definitely serve a purpose because the rear silencer makes the bumper pretty hot.

That reminds me, there was an earlier conversation in this thread about 997.1 GT3 rear bumpers distorting over time due to heat. Can’t say I’ve noticed this on my car, interested to know if anyone else has on theirs?
