I don't think many people would be borrowing significant sums to buy expensive old Porsches. Even before interest rates went up, borrowing say £50k to purchase a GT3 from a dealer is never going to be an investment. Dealer margin and interest costs put you too far in the hole.

It's easy to see higher mortgage rates chewing up spare cash and dampening demand, but I don't think car finance rates will have much influence on values and won't lead to dumping of cars onto the market.

A potential good one for someone who wants to use as intended rather than wrap up in cotton wool to hold value:

Quite the bargain when you consider ordinary 997.2 prices (especially those of a GTS!)

In the real world it’s not worth much more than where it’s been bid to by the time you add fees on top.

Can you really buy a decent - or any -997 GT3 for sub £60k?

Where?

It was a lucky time, covid had just hit and everyone got a bit panicky.

To be fair we know the market is softening again, so it will be interesting to see where this car sells at. High mileage (15k more than mine), comfort spec although I have to say the colour is one of my faves for this model.

I'm afraid I disagree with your opinion GT4RS, Unless the whole car market drops significantly I think the days of a 997 GT3 in the 50 bracket are gone. Just take a look at the rest of the car market, 996 GT3's are barely selling at this price now. That said at 50's or 60's this car really is the sweet spot, you can actually use it with little guilt due to the mileage and tweak how you like without feeling you are damaging some collector item, take my word for it

Come and join the club..

The real world says £70782 inc fees. That’s a lot!

Good news for existing owners I suppose.

Not bad for a comfort with 80,000 miles on the clock. Good to know where the market is at.

It’s 5% plus vat so just under 70k… potentially… unless CC took a slight cut in their fees to get the sale. Did anyone see if reserve was met? If so they would get full fees.

Still a lot for an auction car with 80k on the clock, no warranty, no inspection. Makes JZM white car (which I saw a year and a bit ago when it was back for sale) a bargain at 82k.

CC fees are now 6% +VAT, so +7.2% on the 'hammer' price. That makes this just over 70k in total.

Is 70k really that great, wasn’t that long ago dealers were advertising these for early 90s !

What a strange post to make after commenting the car was only worth 50k.

I’m not sure where you have been looking but I have never seen a comfort with 80k on the clock for 90’s. The last car with near this mileage to see advertised was two years ago, being my own (I do keep a constant eye on the market). It did not sell for 90k

Comforts at low mileage realistically sit at the 80-85 range, with CS higher in the current market (which as a whole has taken a hit). 20%~value between a ‘high’ mileage usable car (with less desirable seats) and a collector item. Tallies up about right

Definitely a bit late to seek opinion seeing as it's paid for and being collected next week, but I was reasonably happy with the price. There was still a dearth of choice of Gen 1 GT3s around for sale, but I wanted a non-CS model and access to the rear so this was perfect for me, as was the mileage given I want to use it fairly regularly in the summer.

It has ppf on it which looks a little old, I might need to get that off but will live with it for a while.

I'm planning to be at the PH Sunday Service on 12th March which should be my first major trip out in her. Hope to see a few others there to obsess over prices wink
