Rennlist and a couple of other owners were a great help in making sure I was aware of the procedures to a replacement engine. It’s not difficult but if anyone would like to hear the details PM me.
Looking forward to having the car back with a free, new, improved engine at 20k miles on an 8 year old high performance car. Amazing really and still with two years full warranty left.

I've owned my late 2014 991.1 GT3 since Nov 21, a 2 owner 13.5k mile car with original engine. The first owner covered half those miles in 6 years, the second covered the rest in just 1 year. I've covered 4k miles since which is higher than I will average but included a fairly mega 3.3k mile Euro road trip for a significant birthday.
I had a couple of the warnings flag up, always only at very high revs 'reduced power ok to drive', a reset of the ignition took it out of limp mode and cleared the warning, so you're not stranded when it does happen. My local OPC (Norwich) had the car in and dropped the engine immediately without skirting around the issue fitting coil packs etc, wear was noted on the lobes and the replacement engine process began. Being a relatively new dealer it's the first they've encountered but they couldn't have been better, new engine was in and car back within three weeks.
I won't deny that when it happened I was massively annoyed as I went into the purchase fully aware of the problem but with the 'it won't happen to me' attitude if I'm honest. Without the backed up stories of how well Porsche cover this issue then I wouldn't have purchased the car but during my ownership the Porsche warranty will always be extended in any case. From what I've found on Rennlist etc there hasn't been a related issue on the latest G series engines which have been fitted since around 2017. So I now see it that I've got a brand new improved engine (cost of the engine without ancillaries or labour was £40k apparently) so a win win. My only inconvenience is that I'm now running it in rather than enjoying it properly, during a period where I didn't want to accumulate many miles.
I know of another owner who purchased a lovely 5k miles example at the same time as me (I narrowly missed it) who's just had a replacement engine also, not sure how many miles he covered since purchase however.

Nice you got it sorted even more simply! I went into the process hoping it would happen, feels like getting a new car almost. 
This is why 991.1's are such superb value.
My Guards Red 991.1 sold within one week of me advertising, the new owner is of the same mindset as me, when it does blow up, he knows Porsche has his back, even if it blows beyond 10 years old as he will keep extending the warranty.
My car was an original E series on 17,000 miles and still going strong, the new owner is hoping it will blow so he can get a nice free motor and ancillaries.

I’m not sure Porsche will continue with the new engines after the 10 years is up. It’s only the hard coating failing on the cam followers, although then wear on the cams if not caught quickly.
Yes there’s tiny particles then in the oil system but not chunks of metal, I’d be surprised if they couldn’t be repaired.
Interestingly there’s a 991.1 RS on CC that has had a bank of followers replaced, no idea what it’s history is though. People have posted that .1 RS’s have had new engines under warranty too even though the 10 year doesn’t specifically apply to them.
Once the 10 years is up maybe each case will be decided on its merits.

Interesting, do you know what failed in those cases? Curious if they all had the finger follower coating breakdown or something else.There’s a post on Rennlist that the G6 engine has the same head design as the RS in respect of lubrication and cam and follower surface finish
