My KIA EV6 GT is arriving in a week's time and it also has wired CarPlay only (why?!) so I'm looking to buy an adaptor so I can report back on how well it works.
Carplay2air adapter works fine on our VW and works perfectly - just get in the car and it connects (but is easily hidden in cubby with USB unlike this) so you should be fine
still means there is a wire sticking out the front of it, and is no excuse for Porsche's lack of foresight and addressing customer needs.

Just a thought - as CarPlay is dependant on specific hardware, do you reckon it's been shipped as-is due to the chip shortage? It's still an oversight, but it could be their thinking was better to send with a feature short than not at all...?

In case anyone is tempted to buy the Yosh air vent magnetic thingy off Amazon, I can report that it won’t hold an iPhone in Apple leather case and even without the case the phone just slides down and falls into the footwell after a couple of minutes. Back to Maus

You have to use two of them then it works fine.

That doesn't seem like a fine solution.
These are the best ones
this (if needed)....

Right but I’m not going to be sticking anything on - my iPhone X has magsafe built in

That’s only in one position within the phone, so I don’t see how using two magnets would help

In any case, I’ve ordered a MagSafe Compatible Car Vent Mount from Maus who have a sale on - I have a couple of their windshield suction holders and they work fine, as do other magnetic holders I have from Apple, Belkin and Hyper

Exactly, that is why I mentioned 'if needed'. That you have magsafe built in, you just need to choose between the two options I listed. The Maus one doesn't look like it would fit well. The jaws of it are too thick, it must protrude a fair way out.

I can’t disagree that CarPlay should have been Wireless, having pondered over buying aftermarket for years,no aftermarket still keeps the original PCCM settings for climate/Auto Wipers/Lights etc…..I picked one up and yes it’s expensive but keeps the OEM look and does what it says on the tin…..it’s great that Porsche still support older cars and keep the original look intact…..

I'm quite interested in this for mine and can apply man-maths(tm) to the reassuringly expensive cost if I make the family eat pot-noodles for a couple of months.

I can even live with the cable as it would be useful to charge at the same time, but I am hesitant as I can see Apple (other brands are available rolleyes) totally phasing out wired connectivity within the lifespan I'd expect to get from this (5yrs+) and then you're totally fooked.

Maybe AirPlay in future via a software update? (knowing Porsche that would be a ££££ upgrade too rolleyes)
You will probably be able to attach a wireless dongle to it even if Apple go port-less, but it's a bit of a bodge.
So with that in mind, this would work?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-UB400-Bluetooth-C...

it is nano size so would not jut out crazily
This is what I was meaning....a tiny usb that means no wire hanging out the front

"an AA wireless dongle that is stored in the cubby under the HVAC. But the cable could easily come out anywhere"

I'm having one fitted in March.
The decider was the functionality of the interface with my car. The wheel mounted controls still enable me to use options like trip mileage and average speed and consumption. i can change light delay for lights and other items that would be lost with an aftermarket system.
I think also the new sat nav in the PCCM+ is linked to my central tacho so if I'm concentrating on driving the little direction arrow and distance warning are nice to have.
i have spoke to Strasse Leeds and so long as the item is available I will add it to my annual service.

Newly-fitted PCCM+

I can't help thinking that the USB port is positioned more for LHD cars. At the end of the day, it actually doesn't much bother me to have the cable instead of bluetooth

Glad you are pleased with it, but what were Porsche thinking of making CarPlay a wired connection! Crazy.

They have to keep something up their sleeve to justify asking £2000+ for the 997.2 PCCM+ when it comes out 🤔

Let’s remember what we’re comparing with though, the original PCCM

Driving home from picking up my new Cayman, the PCCM nav was unaware of a major bypass that had been built a year before. New nav disk? When it comes out it will be around a grand. Radio 5 live for the sports? AM with awful crackly reception. Small choice of FM stations (Kent Messenger FM, anyone?). No DAB. Play music or stream radio from my phone? No sensible way to do that. I didn’t have phone prep (car bought off the showroom floor), so no hands-free

Whether USB or bluetooth, the PCCM+ is worth every penny to me. And as my current commute is through the tunnel to France, I need to be charging my phone en route in any case

Let's be clear about this. It's the Porsche branding that is worth every penny to you.

Otherwise you'd have bought a better-specced, much cheaper third party unit years ago.

PCCM+ is playing catch-up and it's playing it badly. Literally the only thing going for it is the Porsche name.

Like this. Even made to look like Porsche (buttons anyway) by American designer and loaded with tech.

Just had my PCCM head unit fitted at Strasse Porsche in Leeds.
great and tidy job, microphone hidden away for telephone and no misalignment of trim or signs of disturbed A pillars.
Super happy with looks on first impressions after pickup. Very simple to connect my phone via Bluetooth or cable. The clarity of the screen is bright and vibrant, all in all I am glad I chose the Porsche unit. The steering wheel controls and smaller screens on dial work with the new system.
The Porsche sat nav is ok but not 2023, i use google maps via my phone which mirrors on the screen and i can see that I would only use their system if my phone wasn't available.
Bose still works fine, having a large selection of digital channels means i can finally listen to Times Radio and BBC Radio six when there's nothing on Radio 4.
The car section gives me trip info and basic data from the car.
It has transformed the way the 997 feels to use It now has all the things i need in a decent package that doesn't feel like I've compromised down from a 991..So far so good. We will see if the love affair continues.
I could have saved money by taking a non Porsche product but so far the value added feels ok for the costs.
