I have always done it the other way.

Find a car that I want, engage with the owner and ask for as much information as I need. I like fellow enthusiasts and I like to get a feel for the person selling. We agree a price before either of us have invested more than our time ... subject to the car being as described. Sometimes with an agreement that the car will be inspected by a reputable independent on the basis that anything that needs doing the owner pays for and and anything that I choose to do I pay for.

Then when we meet we can look across the paperwork and the car ... and very often all has been as expected. Money transfer made, drive home in car.
This is exactly what i would do...if the seller doesn't want to play ball over the phone or on email then i wouldn't bother.
It's what I do also. Most of the cars I buy are hundreds of miles away, why waste each others time if I'm not willing to pay what you want?

It doesn't need to be a rude affair like some make it out to be, just honesty on both sides before agreeing and making travel arrangements.

Fly down in the morning, inspect car and papers to check to be as described, transfer money and drive home. I've bought many cars this way and have been doing so for years, private sales or through dealers. As long as both buyer and seller are trustworthy, it works.

Nearly all of mine are bought like that too.

Sick and tired of going to see mint cars that have gaps in history, tired suspension etc. etc. And even on nearly new cars turn up and mismatched tyres on them or "yeah the wheels need a bit of a refurb and that little ding sorting but will get that done when we agree a sale." I jus got three trains which took 5 hours, I wanted to drive it home.

Also, so many people price a car expecting to be beaten down a bit, so why not ask "What is your best price?"
I don't, I set mine at what I want, which tends to then be one of the most appealing cars for sale, I then say "you won't find a single fault, price is what it is, yo know it is good because you are enquiring."

We are all different, but I never, I mean never not reply to an enquiry, especially if they are asking what is my best price. I reckon most of my sales the first time we have actually spoken, rather than messaging/emailing, is when they come to collect the car.
I have also never had a single person come to buy a car from me and not buy it. Take time to reply in full, be polite and be honest. If you do that they have no reason to not buy. I expect the same from sellers, shame many don't even bother responding. If I get to the point where I message a seller it means I am very interested, so seems crazy some don't reply. Even crazier when you see the same car sat there for sale 4 weeks later, sometimes months later.

But as I said, we are all different and I am sure they are just looking for the "right" buyer, even if that means dropping the price a few thousand pounds while they wait for them.

just an observation on the "current market"

I am considering changing my daily F31 330D Touring - which is a phenomenal car, but I want another Porsche, so it was either

- Taycan (93kw battery, not too arsed about the rest, but 4s would be nice)
- 911

either with OPC warranty.

I noticed that Taycans have continued on a rapid depreciation curve (today, 760 cars on AT, with none of the ones I was looking at having sold). - Now starting from mid £40k

-911s - still solid values, which makes me think I should go for a 991.1 or ideally a 991.1 4s for the same amount.

The difference in insurance cost will negate all savings from not having to pay for charging. I have another car for the family so the 911 wouldn't be an issue.

all the above to say that I can see a split market. Taycans (and as always, Panameras) depreciating heavily. 911s values holding stronger than even historically.

Interesting times.
You must be one of the very few considering a secondhand Taycan! I just can't see the value or sense in buying one of these outside of business use and brand new? The depreciation looks to be eye-watering and the early models becoming harder to shift by their 'niggles' and the updated version being far superior. Brand new business use they're a good (but expensive monthly) proposition especially when you can walk away after 2/3 years.

When they get to 7yrs old it'll be a brave person to keep one beyond year 8 when the battery can no longer be warrantied.

good point. That's why I am pussyfooting.

Every day I log onto AT I see the spec I want for £1k cheaper, while numbers keep increasing. I can't see that changing with the new model on sale now.

So I might wait for the right 911 to come up.

I'm looking at getting a 991.1 and keep coming back to this which seems a good spec. What are peoples thoughts on it, I can't help but feel it looks expensive when 991.2's seem to start at £68k for cars five years newer. Should i wait for the recession to kick in a bit more, or do we think these are going to remain stable in the near future?

I sold my 991.2 Targa with similar milage and higher spec + warranty for £62k a month ago - that one looks a bit high price - check what spread on motorway that a dealer would pay you for that but to me looks top end price.

Put simply, buy now, risk a small hit as there hasn’t been any cliff edge on this bracket at all or keep on getting a sore hole on that fence.

Summer is on its way too! People feel better and those that are waiting and prices haven’t gave as much as expected will more than likely cave as just looking eventually gets boring.

I’ve also been on the market for a 991.1 (or a very high-spec 997.2) and that one looks a bit pricey to me. I’m aiming at the £52-£56 mark and there is enough offer for cars with relatively low mileage and few owners. I am also seeing dealers not offering much resistance when negotiating and getting £1-2k off.
I think would only pay north of £56 (along the lines of the one you posted) for something from a Porsche dealer with warranty.

Talking about summer, what do people think of this one? I like the combination of white with red interior.

I think it's looks great fun. Love the colour combine. Boring if we were all the same. 😁. Looks a reasonable price.

I like it a lot.

I would not touch buying an electric car at present. There are dealers who thought electric was the way to go and are in serious trouble. You should watch this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsYNfaB5om8) and it will give you the perspective on buying a car like a Taycan or any similar electric car in that price point. If you want to go electric lease.......do not buy!

Agreed. To be fair, the fad has passed for now for me.

I might look into a late 991.1 (but prices are surprisingly resilient)

991.1 prices are finally softening. Lots of cars have been on sale for a number of months and sellers are finally discounting to shift them.
