I took the Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry then drove East to Travemunde in Germany for a ferry to Helsinki.
Once in Helsinki I changed the wheels then drove the 500 miles North to Rovaniemi.

On way home I loaded the car onto the overnight sleeper train from Rovaniemi to Helsinki.
Changed wheels back in Helsinki then ferry from Helsinki to Travemunde. From there I drove west to Dunkirk for ferry to Dover then back to Scotland.

Total trip was 3000 miles driving.

My trips start this weekend with a trip to the Geneva motorshow, the I hope to find some snow somewhere, maybe the alps or maybe Sweden and Norway.
Just going to go as I please so may up any where really :-)

No studs for me though, just the Pirelli winters.

Really wish they'd make a cooking one with rear seats. If so, my Macan would be consigned to history within moments
Speak to RPM Technik

They’ve had my Dakar in for inspection for fitment.
Not that I’m doing it, I let them use my car to inspect.

Yes, a Dakar with rear seats would be the ultimate daily driver.

I have been looking at this route, going up through Finland to top of Norway and then driving all the way back to The Hook of Holland.

Any top tips for the ferry? cabin types, food quality, ease of use, loading etc?
And price? do you think it value as seems quite expensive..

Im leaving this weekend but going to Switzerland first en route!!

Fantastic to see some of these being used as intended! Rather a shame they are so limited, as they really are the perfect non GT 911 for the UK. No cage and get rear seats added as mentioned above and you're all good.

Out of interest, for those of you who have them, was it turn down another limited production car to be offered a Dakar?

992 Dakar - what a great trip! As a matter of interest, is the the Dakar roof rated to carry the weight of 4 wheels and tyres?

Monch The ferry is 32 hours but saves 1000 miles each way driving. I just treated as chill out time with a book.

It is quite expensive but I reconned it came to about the same if you counted the extra fuel and hotel costs.

Cabins are basic and clean. I upgraded to a larger double which which was quite roomy with a sofa and table. Food is average but plenty choice at the buffet. Other facilities are a bar, coffee shop, gym and sauna.

Loading and unloading is very straightforward and would be no problem with a normal 911 or a GT car with FAL

Norfolkaston - The 992 roof is rated for 75kg. The 4 wheels and tyres are 110kg plus the weight of the roof basket so I was overloaded!

The roof tent is rated for 200kg stationary so I knew the roof could handle the weight no problem but was slightly nervous the extra load when moving would cause an issue. I started off restricting myself to 70mph but by the time I was coming home again that had creeped up to 80mph!
3000 miles and all seems fine. Nothing slackened or moved.

Thanks 992 Dakar - very interesting and what a trip. I did the Porsche Camp 4 some years ago in that part of Finland and it was a really great experience. I can’t imagine how much more fun it would have been in the Dakar. Enjoy your car!
