I'll be interested to see what JCT in Leeds offer me for mine next week.
After the 1.5 hr drive to Leeds the car I went to see was missing a few bits that I wanted, so didn't bother driving it.
(Nice drive out in the Spyder though, sans roof, there and back. 200 miles, 3c - brilliant!)

Prior to my trip to Leeds I had a drive of a 1M - very nice car and I can see the attraction, but to me and for my needs it's not got that specialness that the Spyder has.

Value wise, the BMW main dealer offered me £34k for the Spyder against a £40k 1M,
(He showed me the book price for the Spyder is £28500)
Considering the time of year, I thought that was a good indication that these cars will be worth even more come spring / summer 2014.

Unless I can get into an Exige by next weekend, after which I'll have no time, then I think the Spyder will be staying with me a while longer.

I'm actually hoping to get some dry weather on Saturday to go for another long, new year drive....

That's interesting info thanks Zyp. Book prices are often ficticious and can only ever have any relevance for mass market models which go through the auctions regularly. Even then they seem to drive rather than reflect the market. Anyway I digress. When I hpi'd my car the 'valuation' came back as £22-£28k. "so you might be able to negotiate a better price" said the operative. I politely thanked him, but it does beg the question what an insurance pay out opening offer would be. I suspect automatically derived values are inadvertently influenced by the adverts for boxster 'spyder' where the car in question is a rs60 or a standard car.

Can see why a 1M isn't the solution Zyp when you have an Alpina in the stable already.

Book value is clearly a nonsense for a vehicle where for the last few months there have been at best a couple of cars for sale in the entire country. Try explaining that when you want a part ex value though...

OPC cars seem to sell the quickest.

Weather lousy again up here, am not expecting to repeat this years New Years Day dawn raid on the Evo Triangle. Did 100 mile round trip to see my Grandad on Saturday in mine but got caught in torrential downpour on the way home - not really the best tool for the job. Roll on the sunshine.

Just going back to Alastairw rubber's you found in the boot. Could you give an indication of scale? I can't identify them at the moment but if I knew how large (or small) they where I might have more luck.

Is anyone thinking of selling? I'd like a white or red manual, preferably with AC.

Yeah roof on, have been caught out on the M62 before at this time of year!

I have just had a good look in the rear boot of mine and can't see anything that resembles those 2 rubber blocks.

Hoping to hang on to mine but the white car at 911 virgin comes from a very good home and has been very well looked after. I personally prefer Spyder wheels but no doubt that could be discussed?

Thanks Nick, I should have been more specific. Has to have the right seats and wheels.

Let us know your thoughts between the two - I've also contemplated (many, many times) about going back to Lotus in V6 form.
I've now changed my Spyder for this:

Lotus Exige 1 by christopherjgrant, on Flickr

Only driven about 150 miles so far and between being strict with the run in process and the current poor weather up in the north east of Scotland I'm just scratching the surface of the cars character and ability but I'm really taken with it. It's a very different car to the Spyder. Obviously not in the same league as far as the finish. The best comparison I can make is I moved, from a Caterham R400 to the Spyder, the Exige sits right between the two. For me it's exactly what I want - a couple of thousand miles per year for the occasional blast out. The Spyder is a special car but so is the Exige. I have absolutely no regrets in changing.

Edited to say all the very best to the new owner of my ex-Spyder, I'm sure he'll update this thread later in the week smile

looks nice, I cannot bring myself to own one though at those prices.

It would need to have a better engine,gearbox\change be lighter and have a interior which was not the same as my 2004 Exige.
I tend to like the roadster better now without the spoiler, or the non road legal cup.

Spyder is not perfect though, so they all have their issues

fun hardcore car though , enjoy it :-)

I haven't been out to check so apologies if this is nonsense, but didn't someone lose a rubber from the end of the roof hoop (that locates on the roll hoops). Could there be from there?
