Boxster Spyder
Discussion
What is it about spyder owners.
I've done the lotus Elise thing, contemplated the exige, but got a cayman s.
Found that dull and into the spyder. And now I'm feeling the pull of alpina drawing me in.
Sat an exige roadster at Le Mans and was very impressed. Yes, basically the same inside as my Elise many years ago, but dressed at lot nicer in leather. Head doesn't compute the price though.
Spyder still feels like an event, really stands out against other boxsters. Sometimes park next to boxsters to just remind myself how different in appearance they are.

people change for change sake, I have done it many times and it's been a mistake, sold my CSL and Noble way to early.I've done the lotus Elise thing, contemplated the exige, but got a cayman s.

I would love a change now, but I have to bash my head this time to stop myself.
normally a test drive stops any thoughts about changing when you drive back to back again.
I know if I got rid of the spyder now I would regret it massively.
There is nothing else in that price range which offers the relative rarity, drive experience and ownership experience.
Reality is, you simply do not need a faster car. However desirable that may be, and I wouldn't turn down a 458, I just do not know when I would actually use that performance.
The only switch I think I will make in time will be to a complete opposite. Comfort, luxury but still with a bit if kick.

I do miss a turbo kick.
As you say you don't need more speed and any NA engine cannot give you it, because they are all high reving these days, so hard to access the performance.
which means the only way to get that kick now is to have 400lb/ft torque at 3000rpm with a tuned turbo motor.
the issue is, after 2 weeks you get used to it and that lust for it has vanished.
hence why all GTR and most turbo owners tune their cars, all one trick ponies and once you have had that fix and it's lost people just add more and more BHP.
I would say a very high % of GTR are tuned as are TTRS and quite a lot of 997 turbo's
my old car did 40-60 mph in 1.2 seconds that's faster than a 458 and any other NA car, it's great fun as it's usable for very short blast with out running out of road trying to rev out a 8000rpm NA lump.
you only find this out buy owning 50 or so cars and driving for 20 odd years plus, and hence why people lust after GT3, turbo's etc etc owning most cars is not like the dream, and most of the time its the hunt and the fun looking to that next car, not the owning.
The R and Spyder while not the fastest, offer a lot more than just about any other car this side of 100k.
and in a ideal world, I would drive my R as my daily, the Spyder for fun, some turbo thing for a quick fix, some barge for luxury and then maybe that GT3 for the rare time I could plan to use it, and I prob would also add in a lotus and a Ferrari lol.
the issue is most people only have 1 or 2 cars so end up flipping them to fix those 7 cars lusts, but none give all 7 car fixes, so you sell to give yourself that fix at the time.

Exactly what I've been contemplating - there's absolutely no reason for me to change.
I need a smack with a wet cod.
just get the geo done on your Spyder at Leciester to the spec on Leicester OPC computer for my car.quote]

it will then give you that more Lotus direct feel. with out wearing out tyres or being over the top.
My Spyder is not at that spec now, but my R is and for road use it's perfect.

Griffter.I am in Dursley.
Just looked at your website - I used to walk past your house everyday on the way to school in the 70s! Always remember one of the houses used to have some fantastic American muscle parked outside, I seem to remember a red Corvette Stingray. Was cool, particularly with the Aston garage opposite!Zyp said:

I had that in mind when I typed Two guys fighting over a car parking space in New York. But what happens at 1.56?
