Said no petrol head ever , 911 cabby vs Spyder is a no brainer, cant see how they car even be compared , Spyder is in a different league and for what its worth I think list price on Spyder was the biggest bargain in the Porsche range all imo of course.

at £90k a slighty used 991 GTS cab, as paying overs just seems crazy and poor value, you also get the real engine :-) I know what I would have but I am not biase lol

I agree for the list price of the Spyder it's a great car and buy, If you had to spend £90k of you own real money would you buy a Spyder now ?

Well technically it wasn't the topic, as I started it by saying I wouldn't pay overs on a Spyder, then someone compared it to a 911 which wasn't my position from the beginning, it was compared to the GT4. Anyway, interesting topic nether the less, but for me, mid-engined all the way. The GT4 and Spyder (at list) are showing the 911 up for being poor value imo.

I also would not pay overs for GT4 or Spyder and that's the point, at £90k the choice is way harder and more so with GT4's at £115k.

See your point but 911's are not a consideration for me. Remember I have a GT4 on order, so it is merely a choice between the two, so I wouldn't pay overs on that basis just to secure one, but would be willing to order one at list and try them both out, see which I prefer

If you still have the PEC experience to use the you could arrange to either drive the Spyder or the GT4/Spyder back to back. I am sure the GT4 is equally brilliant if not better but just in slightly different ways. Have you watched the Shmee150 videos on Youtube. He has a GT4 and raves about it but also has a video of his views of the Spyder. Not quite a proper comparison but a view.

At the point I ordered the Spyder there wasn't really a price comparison. Spyder cost me £66K a 991 GTS Cab would have been in excess of £110K so it wasn't even a consideration. The Spyder and the GT4 for that matter at list are bargains in comparison to the 911. No question of that. Market forces and demand have set the pre-used price hence the reason the Spyder / GT4 have increased in value and the GTS is depreciating. That is not to say the 911 is not a great car also, most cars depreciate.

The only time I ever had trouble with my 987 Spyder roof is when I took out a (female) friend on a day that was very iffy weather-wise. It suddenly started just bucketing down...

Every other time that I wanted to put the roof on, it would be done in mere moments, but not this time.

By the time I finally managed to get the roof on, she looked like someone had tipped a bath of water over her.

Oddly, she didn't see the funny side at all at the time, especially as I was only concerned about my alcantara. :-D

Fortunately, she did (much) later decide that it had at least been something to laugh about when viewed with hindsight. Phew.

Clunking on full lock when reversing - anyone else get this with their 981 spyder?
From what I have read, it's quite 'normal' as the wheels don't have the same turning circle due to geometry etc. Is my research right? Do you guys also get it? Apart from not use full lock, is there anything I can do to mitigate it?? Sorry if this is a bit of a lame question - it is my first Porsche in my defence!!

I feel my Fiesta ST3 at £155 a month on lease a bargain, my hard earned £75k for a Cayman less a bargain in my own eyes.
Its funny how people view a Bargain, I don't view a car a bargain because it has gone up in value, that's just handy.

but the point you stated was what can you buy at £90k and then the choice is way harder :-) because paying overs also never is a bargain imo.

correct, as for less judder, turn wheel less while in reverse ! , or go forward and handbrake turn is always an option.

If you look at the tyres thread you'll find some tyres are worse than others, and is worse in cold weather - and it will likely get worse as the tyres wear. Winter tyres can reduce or effectively eliminate this.

Im sure at £90k that would prob fall in line with the price they should have been in the first place , Spyder in my eyes should have been sold at a much higher price than the Boxster models hence I think its bargain of the century , would I Spend £90k to own one , No, I didnt buy mine new so didnt get quite get the bargain that everyone else did, but the business man in me would not allow me to spend £20k plus over, maybe I am different as I buy cars for a living and I always keep an eye on the market, I have never personally lost money on any of my own cars in 30 years of driving but doing this I tend to change my cars every year, I do think I will keep this car for a good while even taking money out the equation Im not sure what I could buy ,even spending more coin that would excite me as much.

That is a bold statement .. Have only ever made a profit on about 4 cars purchased and I have had over 120 in 53 years of driving .I am a salesman's best pal
I have had a few Porsches over the years and only made anything on 2 of them and ahead of the game with the current 987 Spyder
