Wow 4yrs for anymore spyders I'm shocked . I figured the next GT4 batch was a year away but maybe that's way off too .
What's the braking like ? Standard brakes on my GT4 are brilliant but they have the Carrera S brakes, maybe ceramics are a good option to have ?
The new Spyder looks a big leap forward from the old car

Hi guys, very excited to hear that mine has arrived at the dealer (ordered last October). I am having full body PPF applied as mine is in Jet Black. VERY excited, just hope I like the spec, although to be honest, I am sure once I drive it, I won't care what colour it is!

All being well, I am hoping to collect next Thursday in time for my birthday weekend! Fingers crossed for some decent weather hey! Hope you guys all enjoy this weekend of weather.

Not sure big leap forwards are what was needed in Porsche back to basics Sport cars. longer gearing, bigger wheels, electric steering, poor roof, more comfort, PTV etc etc
progress they call it. some love it, some less so I am less excited by todays Porsches than I have ever been :-(

I know your a big fan of your old Spyder and fair play I also think they are bargain cars. However the old roof unless you only drove it on dry days was a bit naff especially with a speed restriction with it up but each to their own .
The new car yes has more luxuries but then it's lots quicker , sounds and looks better, has a decent roof that's not gonna fall apart over 125 mph and can be spec'd with tons of alcantara and 918 buckets to give it that Motorsport feel .

It certainly is.

Regarding the brakes, the standard steels are perfectly good for normal road use and in most situations no different in performance to the GT4 steels. Quieter too.

Whilst some may prefer ceramics, their expense on a c£60k + car imo is wasted furthermore their is little evidence (unlike the GT3) to show any of the extra cost is recouped on resale to date of both GT4s and Spyders and this will most likely continue if not become a detriment as the cars age due to the huge maintenance and replacement costs.

Regarding the roof, still an improvement, but why they can't factor into the design a fold down roof without the flaps I don't know, especially given the humps allow for additional space (in theory). With the 987 it was a weight saver, but the 981 is a much more bloated, solid car, with more toys, so surely could have implemented a better option. Lovely car though, I'll own one at some point for sure.

Insurance for your 981 Spyder - that old chestnut. Interested in what insurers you all went for.

Just heard my Spyder has arrived at the OPC! A week early. So, firstly I looked on the comparison insurance web sites - cheapest comes out at £220. Problem with most of the insurers is that they won't accept a proper market value of the car & probably won't get a choice of repairer. At the other end of the spectrum Hiscox Insurance - I have an agreed value of the car at 86K (invoice value is 65K), choice of repairer, but will need at least a cat 6 tracker (which will have to be a Porsche one at over £1000 so not to invalidate the warranty) - cost £1250 I'am 56, clean license etc etc. so either i can get cheap insurance which won't really cover the car if a total loss or pay a mega amount up front. Urrrghhh.

it's not really a lot quicker in the real world, a few 10ths of a second which the longer gearing and extra weight kills and with the luxury it act feels slower and feel is the key word here, the 987.2 car has it in spaces and you feel like you are going fast with tons of feed back. So going slower is a good thing if it feels faster ;-)

roof on, the 987.2 car does more than double the UK B road speed limit, ie. 124MPH and a non issue, plus a figure they plucked out the air ie 200kph. I did 140 in Germany as I forgot and my roof stayed on ! but the roof looks the bomb imo and is a work of art being carbon.
Added bonus you can take the full rear section out and have an open top feeling in the showers. and for full light weight feel take it off and leave it at home !

The new roof fails in so many ways, a real disappointment :-( fixed in place in side the car, fake tails, no boot access due to the after thought fake tails, ugly inside, cheap plastic boot panels. a real shame and one of the main reasons I did not go for the 981.

Sounds and looks better !, well that is subjective, some like the old car looks some like the new, I like smaller cars the new one looks and is a bit big !
But I like the looks of both cars.

918 buckets loose heated seats which in a Spyder is nice, I see most have gone for heated buckets for that reason ! again no right and wrong choice.

Motorsort feel lol er nope ! Drive Steve Rance CUP car and then tell me what road car has Motorsport feel.

agree it needed a really neat Electric trick roof imo and boot access of course.

The new roof is the one element that I'm not so keen on. I actually enjoyed the quirkiness of the original Spyder design and also the fact that it could be completely removed and left in the garage.

That aside the new Spyder is perfect!

Couldn't disagree more personally, and the old roof somehow made the car annoyingly noisy. The new one is nicely noisy :-)

Never used it with the roof up so irrelevant to me. Best place for the roof is away from the car.

Black bits offset so well against mid-life crisis red.

Us reds need to get our cars together for a nice group shot!

Same dilemma have a multi car with Admiral for the day car and the 987 Spyder and to add the new one they wanted £290 but only market value .
I went with Marsh /Porsche underwritten by Aviva and invoice value up to £72 K but will only give invoice value £68 k if a total write off in the first year no tracker for £345 fully comp protected I heard Lockton gave a couple of owners I know a good deal but the last time I tried where OTT

Am I missing something? Market value right now is greater than list.

Sorry what I should have said £72 is the max value with out tracker as one cannot make profit out of an insurance claim. Will pay up to invoice value

you can get Gap insurance that will cover from pay out to replacement value, I looked at it as I have trade insurance and they would pay out trade which was around £45k on a Spyder redface I was quoted £350 for 3 years cover.

I chose to insure separate/private and if the worst happened and I will get new price and I would be happy with that.
