1st outing this year?
sadly not, I don't track the Spyder these days, it's a fast road only car. and any track days would be GT4 duty.

They have used an old pic for this promo.

Cannot say I am into track days atm, very expensive, money better put into a euro trip, hard on car etc etc.
The pic made me get mine out and do a spring clean though, I love the car as much as ever, new cars = meh lol
def last of an era a Flat 6 mid engine hydraulic steering Porker :-(

cleaned and ready for summer.

So a first world problem. If you could keep one Spyder, choosing between 981 and 987 which would you keep?

I've had both although not at the same time . 981 been and gone, 987 new addition . Both great cars but the 987 just seems great value / smile .

For me the 987,but I only have driven a 981 Spyder once and I preferred what I already had.

Yes, it seems that the 987 has more of an emotional connection with its owners than the 981. Also, when I am out and about I get a lot more 'Porsche Hate' in the 981 - not sure why.

I think it may depend on how you use the car.
I've just come back from my second major Euro tour.
2.7k miles, on every type of road, autobahn, Nurburgring, Swiss alps etc...
The 981 is just epic for this sort of occasion.

For more limited driving here as a 2nd/3rd car maybe a 987 would be the way...

But really they are both fantastic cars :-)

Gratuitous last pic from the bottom of the garden.

After taking the pic I put it back in the garage then thought I should check that the roof fitted and all the bits were where I left them. Got it fitted in the end but it was a bit of a faff!! smile

Think this could my new spyder cool

Agree - I'm averaging about 500 miles per year so it's definitely the latter option I think...

The 981 Spyder has gone today! A sad day, but all part of the wider Porsche ownership journey. Just have to post this picture of the 987 to remind myself how lucky I am to be able to keep this!

Yes, that seems to be the consensus! As it happens, I would never have sold this one before the 981. The 981 is amazing, but there's something about the 987 that makes it special. The 987 is slower, doesn't make as good a noise, the interior is worse, the roof is a faf and yet I would still keep it every time!

I assume a 981 spyder has less headroom than a conventional Boxster?

Looking at the manual the height (at DIN kerb weight smile) is 20mm lower than the Boxster and 9mm lower than the GTS. This though is in the suspension. I'm reasonably confident the roof line is the same for all models.

Interior roof height is the same. The only difference is that the Spyder lacks the extra insulation and inner roof lining of the regular 981 models.

that would mean Interior roof height is more.

According to Porsche the Spyder is 49.7" high vs 50.1 for the GTS, though that probably doesn't translate in less headroom for the reasons stated.

911R, did you say you had modified the 987 Spyder to 'improve' the induction sound? What did you do?

I have Cargraphic Manifolds, Evoms Vflow induction with desnork and Mesh.

slighty loud as the mic is next to the exhaust in this vid and flaps open, but you get the idea, it still has flaps so you can goto quite mode.

in car on track sound.
