Boxster Spyder
Discussion
Funny isn't it. I'm really into the sound of cars, but after a while I found the noise of the 981 Spyder a bit grating. I swapped it for a 991.2 GTS which is much quiter, but IMHO sounds a bit more grown up. I know you can't compare a 911 and a Boxster, but I'm hooked on the GTS, it's amazing. In the meantime, I've kept my 987 Spyder, and I doubt I will ever sell it, despite being slower, quieter and less exciting than the 981 Spyder.

Interestingly I am the opposite and find the sound track on my 981 Spyder the best ever sounding Porsche owned to date (number 13)Recently I had a nice long run in a 991.2 GTS at the PEC and then an hour on the local roads and was very impressed with everything except the PSE far to quiet and flat sounding to my ears and the fact the 911 has ballooned over the years to point of being that much bigger and equally that much less fun on back road blasts IMO
Getting back into the Spyder just underlined what a magnificent well balanced super sounding piece of kit Porsche designed with ample bhp for roads today and at almost 50% of the price of a similar spec GTS what more can I ask for to satisfy my petrolhead needs
991 GTS is back off my menu and look forward to the 718 Spyder as the only future possible replacement for me now

Perfect pairing, nothing will be like the 987.2 Spyder ever again, so the only move would be to a Lotus, and you have the perfect daily if you want to stay in The brand. Nice pair of cars :-)

there was never a 987.1 Spyder (ok there was but not a real one) the 987.2 is the model of that era and Porsche choose to make a Spyder in the 987.2 designthe 981 is the 981 Spyder ie the sort of current car.
Those are the only 2 real Boxster Spyder's, but Porsche have used the name in the 987.1 cars in the 2008 RS60 Spyder but it was just a normal car with options.
And of course we had the org Porsche Type 718 RS 60 Spyder which is why the new 981.2 facelift car was renamed 718 !!!!

Agree with you on the sound 100%, as will most owners who have real world experience of the 981 Spyder (as opposed to the 'armchair' experts....no names lol.) the 911 has ballooned over the years to point of being that much bigger and equally that much less fun on back road blasts IMO

Far better than the rather flat and somewhat droning GT4 too.
Also the 981 Spyder has no irritating transmission noises which many including myself have complained about with their GT4s.
Interesting what you say regarding measurements. The GT4/Spyder I agree FEELS much smaller than the 991. Yes, it is shorter clearly but mirror to mirror external width is identical to the 991at 1978mm.

From Porsche website widths excluding mirrors Spyder 1801mm and 991GTS 1852mm which makes sense as the 991 does easily look and feel 51mm wider to me at least Interesting what you say regarding measurements. But width to the outside point of external mirrors is 1978mm I.e. identical, as confirmed by the 991.1 GT3 and 981 Spyder handbooks, the GT3 handbook is the upper photo btw::
