Wheels painted a deviated color was a Porsche Exclusive CXX option. Here in the USA it cost $5000. Not cheap... thus the reason I passed on mine.

Hi Guys a little bit of help on the wheel finishes, at present I have the platinum satin wheel colour which I am very unhappy with the overall finish and condition although my OPC states there is nothing wrong with them( I know they wouldn't say any different) so considering a change does anyone know if Hi gloss black was an option as I would like to keep to a original spec that was availble at time of purchase.
It's been a while now but I'm sure it was. There was certainly a 'black finish' option I just can't swear to it being 'High Gloss'

Satin black was the “standard” option, but I guess with Exclusive you could have had what you wanted.

The standard finish was silver with either satin platinum (code XDH) or satin black (code XDK) being optional.

Yes I am seriously considering one - but it must have PDK. However I have only just taken delivery of a 718 BGTS and am Very pleased with that so it will be a difficult decision and will depend on the cost of changing. I wouldn't want one of the first if it is launched later this year I need to enjoy the GTS first. If I decide to change then I will probably seek to get one of the last - though that might be difficult for the dealer to predict given the vaguaries (is that how you spell it ?!) of the dealer allocation process (I have been promised a build slot as I have been dealing with same OPC for over 15 years)

I would consider a 982 spyder or gt4rs. But to have a 4.0l engine would make the decision very easy. Even if just revving to 8250rpm would be music to my ears. So when will the announcement be?

Hmmmm..... Interesting point.... I have a GT4, and my other half is looking to buy a 981 Spyder.... I took the liberty of test driving a Spyder from our local OPC on her behalf....!! (Yes— she did have a drive as well..!!!). Anyway: the exhaust sounded a fair bit louder/more crackly than that on my GT4, to my ears anyway... Is this actually an objective issue, or am I just imagining things...?!? Could it simply be that— with the roof off— it simply “sounds” louder, due to lack of insulation....?? Or is the Spyder exhaust somewhat “artificially enhanced”....?? And yes— I did have the “exhaust button” set to ON, in both cars....!!

Yep it's def enhanced on the 981 Spyder, but more fake and over run then the GT4. Some love the over run it seems a thing :-)

I am selling a white high spec 981 is you are interested be about £74.5k so way cheaper than anything out there for the spec. just had 2 year service and new brake fluid also.

The spyder is louder. Thin temporary roof to the cayman. I think slightly louder from the outside . 4K sound tests would also corroborate this. From the driving seat, the spyder is a much easier car to drive without the gt3 front end. It is a very simple car to drive for 5hrs and without a drone insight. Straight line speed and acceleration similar to gt4 but less committed on track from suspension. But the roof down and that natural engine sound makes up for the slight disadvantage on the few track laps. Every tunnel is an opportunity to listen to a beautiful drum roll of sound roofless.
You never know , if you buy a spyder for the other half , you could be in for a gt3 slot .

Maybe. And that GT3 slot may end up being a 992 'turbo' GT3...
But if that lights your fire...

GT4 is louder than the Spyder at WOT

I also don't get this comment,
"the spyder is a much easier car to drive without the gt3 front end" ?

GT4 is nothing like a 981 Spyder, you can tell straight away when you drive a GT4 it's very GT over a GTS Boxster with a 3.8.

There is no point putting a GT4 up VS a Spyder imo two very different cars.

Well I did not think I need to elaborate but for yourself I will try to indulge.
Sound tests at approx. 4k rpm. PSE off. Careful on certain tracks.

Yes , driving on roads for a long time is easier with the Spyder as you can do one handed steering with security and car safety in mind of course.
While the GT4 has a totally different feel and handling. A GT car of course. Other than on flat even roads you have a need for both hands on the steering wheel most of the time , in my limited experience. An alive experience . Great for the track focussed car. A GT car no less.

A Spyder is more 718GTS with a 3.8l engine.

But a Spyder is wonderful road car that can go on the track and surprise you . With the right tyres (sadly not Cup2's but PS4S do nicely) you can enjoy a car with great noise and emotion. What is wrong with that?

Enjoy the last days of your 981 Spyder.

I am sure we will be hearing the glowing reports to the GT3 (well done) and see the Spyder soon at the OPC .

Today was my final day with my 981 Spyder as it goes in tomorrow to be exchanged for a new GT3. Fortunately the weather was brilliant and I’ve had a full day of roof down enjoyment. I cannot wait to experience my first GT car, but I’m going to miss the Spyder incredibly - I’ve made many brilliant memories and it has been by far my favourite car I’ve owned. I hope to pick up another one again in the future when finances allow. What brilliant cars they are.

Sounds like a day very well spent!

What spec/colour is your Spyder out of interest ?

I completely get that and this wasn’t an easy decision but thought I should scratch the GT itch whilst I’ve got the chance. I’ll now be saving for a Spyder to sit alongside the GT3 for the open top days, rather than for a new car.

It was a brilliant day! Main spec points are CWM, satin black Spyder wheels, red deviated stitching/extended leather, 918 seats, phone, nav... plus probably quite a few other things I no longer remember were options!
