Thanks Boxster-race

Really the roof is no hassle at all, less than 30 secs to put back up slightly longer to take down in my view. But certainly not fussy in anyway.

My GF struggles pulling the roof back up as you need to pull it centrally and she’s on tip toes trying to do it.... means she’s less likely to want drive it, which I’m happy with.

Love the Alcantara wheel it’s superb and gear change is just perfection. But my god the engine just wants to be revved it’s just keeps going, I’m sure I’ve had 80 in second.
Thank you and thanks for sharing. It looks like a dream car !

I also bought a 981 Spyder last week...Its an incredible fun car and its performance is more accessible than my 991.2 GT3..Took it out late last night for a 60 mile drive, top down of course and i had a great time..With the windows up there's very little buffeting even at 110mph ! I'm especially impressed with the total lack of scuttle shake which usually puts me off buying open cars..
It really feels as unshakeable as a well sorted coupe..

Hi S, if I was the friend you refer to I would be changing OPCs pronto.

A £1.2 m 12 monthly spend should guarantee at least a GT2 RS and GT3 RS.
Agreed.... It’s a piss take.... Problem is: he now feels “tied” to that one OPC, as he’s already invested so much in them....!! They keep throwing empty promises his way, with nothing concrete at the end of it..... Latest one is: “top of the list for a 2nd batch of 991.2 GT3-RSs”.....!! He’s just bought TWO 991.1 3RSs in 2 bloody months....!! What more do they want....?!?

Yet more evidence that “bigger isn’t always better”..... (At least in the Performance Car world... wink ) There’s just something very rewarding about driving a car to its limits within its normal “habitat”, be that road or track.... Went out in my mate’s new Gen2 GT3 yesterday— it’s quick, bloody quick.... But completely unusable in the middle of Birmingham, even on some of the slightly “faster” roads that surround the City Center.... I get more satisfaction out of driving my GT4..... Hence why folks such as myself and 911R keep banging on about the “fun” driving experience offered by cars such as the 987 Spyder/R: sooooo much less power, but wayyyy more fun on any given A/B road....!!

This. I came close to getting into this trap. Started putting on the mile with Euro trips and suddenly I'm think 'oh better not that the Spyder I'm putting too many miles on it'. The suddenly you have a brilliant road can that your just don't drive. I've been lucky that I've moved abroad to work and bringing the car was not an option so it's had 9 months in storage. Returning in Augs smile

Fully agree. GT3 is a proper track tool, therefore not so suited to a weekend drive on a/b road. With a friend we go once a year to the ring; the main weapon of choice there is indeed the GT3, which is well suited to the demanding requirements of the green hell. I’ll be bringing my Boxster to the track for the first time this September (#DN20), we’ll see how it fairs up...

I think the gearing saps the life from it a little , where the GT3 midrange is much better.
110 is not really making it accessible lol and still in 3rd gear at that.

I have been running mine every day atm though, as it can be a daily no issue.

I feel my GT3 is more an event but I have got the manual.

I have not hit red line yet in the GT3, so cannot say much about the shorter ratio much yet.

+1 here too
Like you I’ve already done two Euro trips, taking in Spa, Nurburgring, Millie Miglia, Stelvio, Swiss passes etc.. quite honestly the very best driving days in my life with this special car.
I started doing the man maths, and ended up buying a BS987.2 to help keep the mileage down on the Spyder. 9 months later, I’ve worked out that was just a stupid thing to do !!
Firstly I don’t plan on ever selling the Spyder, Secondly I will pick the keys up to the Spyder every time, Thirdly, I’ve decided I don’t care how much it’s worth in years to come. I will enjoy it now whenever I can.
A day spent not driving my Spyder is a day wasted....
The 987.2 is currently up for sale :-)

Do you have the road map of your Euro trips? With a friend we normally do Nurburing and Spa once a year, and could be a good extension to go to Italy and Switzerland.

Sorry no road maps, but here is the itinerary from our two tours -

2016 was mid May, so the tops of the Swiss Alps were still closed and the weather mixed. It absolutely bashed it down as we watched the start of the Millie Miglia ! We did arrive at the San Gottard Pass just as it opened though so that was fun.

2017 was early June, the Alp Passes had just opened, so very little traffic and glorious blue skies.... it’s was an awesome day.

Euro tour 2016
Exeter - Bruges (via tunnel)
Bruges - Malmedy
Spa Classic (including track laps)
Malmedy - Stuttgart (Porsche / Mercedes Museum) - Baden Baden
Baden Baden - Grindlewald (via Black Forest A500)
Day driving Swiss Passes
Grindlewald - Brescia
Watch start of Millie Miglia
Brescia - Reims (pictures at old pit complex)
Reims - Home

Euro tour 2017
Exeter - Bruges
Bruges - Nurburgring (track laps :-)) - Ramstein Miesenbach
Ramstein Miesenbach - Porsche factory tour - San Valentino Alla Muta
San Valentino Alla Muta - Stelvio Pass - Riva del Garda
2 days of work.....
Riva - Monza GP track - Stresa Lake Maggiore - Simplon Pass - Brig - Obergoms
Day driving - Grimsel, Susten and Furka Passes (Simply the best day !) - Engelberg (although would probably choose Grindlewald).
Engelberg - Saint Quentin
Saint Quentin - Home

Happy days

Each line was a day I think, so 9 days ish.
I was travelling with a mate, not the good lady, so most stops were one night then get back to the driving.... mileage was about 2.7k each trip.
I love cramming as much as possible into a day.

I’m not sure if this has been posted on this thread, but a 19% shorter final drive (and longer 6th gear to compensate) are available in the USA as of late last year.

I couldn’t find any further information from someone who’d actually installed it though:

How do you spend £1.2 million in an OPC in 12 months? What did he buy?

It’s more than that as of the weekend...!! He’s kindly just taken another 3RS and x2 Gen2 GT3s off their hands.... Before that, from memory: x2 GT3-RSs; x2 991.1GT3s; 991.1 TurboS; and a bunch of “normal” Porsche cars (Panamera, Macan etc....)..... All except 2 sold back at a hefty loss to the same OPC.... And he’s not the only one— there’s a chap who has been doing similar for the past 10 years at the same OPC (although he does get “first digs” at EVERY GT product that is released....). Utter madness imo, if all in aid of getting that coveted “GT allocation slot”.... Yes— I’m sure he WILL indeed get an allocation for the next car (it would be insane if he didn’t....), but at what cost.....?? Why he doesn’t just pay the overs is beyond me tbh..... Craziness.....

I’m going to shut up now: I’m sure the OPCs read some of these threads, and I’m hoping for a future allocation myself.....!!

Clearly crazy.

Better to just pay overs and get a car.

if it must be 'new and to your spec' then I'm sure someone would let you spec their car for a fee.

Certainly no need to be paying £1.2m+

The whole money thing attached to cars these days takes the fun of driving and being an enthusiast.

impressive burn really doesn't make any sense to me...and he's buying GT cars anyway which are already over list to finally get the chance to spec his own, doesn't he have anything better to do with his cash??

Agreed.... And also pretty disgusted that the OPC have permitted it without “awarding” an allocation.... Feels a little as if he’s being “taken for a ride” I’ve gotta say.... What more does someone have to do.....?? TBH I think the particular geographical area in which the OPC is located plays something of a part, as there are other customers doing much the same.... ‘Nuff said....
