On a long 718 Boxster test drive... What an uneventful car... the Spyder can’t come soon enough..!
Yep. Might as well look forward to a time when electric sports cars are good if we’re stuck with dull engines/downsizing etc.

I thought the 718 drove great, but then it should do as it took some of the great improvements from the final 981 models (Spyder steering from 911 Turbo etc) and put them in all models. I just can’t imagine buying one over say a 981GTS?! Chassis is undeniable on 718 of course.

I don’t want to jump to conclusions too quickly, as I have the loaner for a few more days, but I find the steering as disconnected as the throttle. I really wanted to like the 718 as I’m probably on course to have to buy one due to moving to the continent and getting a left hand drive... but boy, what a disappointment it is so far... I didn’t want to believe the 718 moaners, but I’m afraid they are right... I will check with the OPC if this has the steering plus, as it is very soft compared to my 981...

Could be that, and also tyre choice.

Can’t you track down a nice GTS?

I went to PEC today for a half day driving the 718. Drove 3 cars. A std boxster a cayman gts and a cayman s.
Once on the move and driving the circuits the engine is fine. Powerful and revs out nicely. The throttle response is not as good as an na 981 a low revs though.
At low speeds the engine is thrummy and a tad coarse however.
The rest of the car is spot on as ever.
Had a super time with my brother . They do look after you really well . A wicked freebie.

F6T? Can you spec it with PDK? I’m no purist on transmission setup, but I find PDK better for track though.

Took my new 981 Spyder for a nice 150 mile drive around mid Wales yesterday afternoon..Top down with beaming sunshine all the way; life doesn't get much better IMO..Its truly a superb all rounder and plenty poke for fun..I took my 991.2 GT3 out Saturday afternoon and in comparison its a rocket ship, however they complement each other perfectly.
One thing that stood out to me this weekend is why are there so many shcensoredt slow drivers driving around at 40mph nose to tail like sheep..It doesn't happen on the continent so it must be the UK's new national pastime.

Thanks for sharing. Let us know when you’re finally lured to the turbo and want to sell your F6 to good folk like myself... wink

Not sure what the criteria for a 718 experience is tbh. I still have my spyder and had it serviced last month.who knows what triggers an invite?
The sessions are being held all week.4 sessions a day.

Instructor didnt know if next spyder would be a turbo 4 or 6. Just that word from this senior is its a turbo.

My spyder is a better drive still than any 718.
A 718 boxster at 50 odd grand is still a terrific car.

It will be an absolute crying shame if the 718 Spyder is Turbo - I was hoping it would have the same clutch weight as my 991.2 GT3 was NA and looked great - thats the only thing that would make me swap mine - the clutch is the only thing wrong with the 981 - perfect for a weekend toy, but I’m truth, it does grates a bit as a DD.

Holding on to my 981 until I know - I have to say I’d be amazed if it turns out to be turbo frown

When’s it announced ?

Does anyone really know what the engine will be - would be very helpfull to know ? smile

To be fair France has the same population as the UK and about 3 times the same, you are less likely to meet them.

Have you tried driving on the Autobahn recently. Every one I travelled on Summer 2017 was being dug up and restricted to 60KMH!

Good evening Richard..After my highly enjoyable 150 mile yesterday i can't imagine life with no Spyder in it..! I have mixed feelings about whether or not the next Spyder will be a turbo or not..I have just bought a beauty and paid circa £9K over list and had already decided on p/x'ing for the new one next year, however if its a Turbo then the residuals on the nasp 981 version should remain good as many will not want to swap it for a Turbo.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if it will be Turbo judging from footage where the noise and exhaust configuration gives strong hints on being Turbo..The GT4 will still be a 4L nasp IMO since its developed by the Motorsport division..

I’m glad you like it - holds it head up high with the GT stuff - perfect foil to them.

If the 718 isn’t NA then the 981 is going nowhere.

I test drive a T (PDK though) and thought it was quite nice - drove home in the Spyder - it’s in a different league IMHO - engagement, chassis , the way it develops torque , the noise (no SE on) - it is simply IMHO the perfect car - visceral, engaging - I love mine so much.

11,000 happy miles and counting.

Glad you are happy with yours - I think you mentioned you planned to test drive a manual T - please let me know how they compare smile

I would go as far to say find me another Porsche for less than £130k which is as much fun or even sounds as good

The main plunge you have taken is getting a car that would be very hard to replace for similar money

Enjoy every (s)milecool
