Dont worry about it.....7000 miles isn't an issue at all. I would be happy to see an early oil change in the book. Wouldn't bother me if it was non OPC oil change as long as official parts receipt and prrof of oil type used were present....

Spyders are great, but they are not so special that they shouldn’t be driven!

This whole treatment of Porsche like a Ferrari is ridiculous. The whole point of a Porsche is you’re supposed to be able to drive it lots without issue. I appreciate it’s all relative to each owner’s circumstances and perspective, but it’s not a 458 speciale aperta.

Once the economy changes direction again and prices drop, it’ll seem a bit silly to have tried to preserve values. Or when they want petrol cars off the road and tax us silly money!

11k miles and counting here and no regrets.

Re: the spec of the voodoo JZM car. I’m with the poster above - Bluetooth for phone is more useful than PCM.

The door pulls/stitching/seatbelt combo doesn’t match either, but is probably easily fixable and not a deal breaker.

About to hit 13k including a trip around Europe this year. May need to give it away in a Kellogg’s packet! Trip to NC500 planned for next year. Miles equal smiles. Have LOI in for new Spyder if and when so current one would need to help fund it. Brexit seems to be biting daily so no crystal ball on future values.

Good man !!
Mines now on 17k after two euro tours and 3 fantastic years driving this special car.
Just MOT’ed and taxed up, so hoping for a few more salt free drives before the next Beast from the East arrives :-)

Just sold my 14k mile silver, non buckets to an OPC. Listed at £72.5, sold for £64k needs two tyres and bonnet painting. Wish all cars depreciated like that!

Hi all,

The Voodoo Blue car for sale at JZM is mine. I bought it with under 500 miles on the clock in summer 2016.

The first ‘service’ was a running-in oil and filter at 1000 miles.

The second was an oil and filter in summer 2017. I do an annual oil change on all my cars and bikes, regardless of mileage.

Third service was the scheduled 2-year one.

The reason I had the work done at JZM was a) I get on with them there and wanted to give them the business and b) I feel their techs know and care about the cars in a way that lots of OPCs in my experience don’t quite manage.

Car has been garaged throughout its life and I’ve enjoyed every one of those 8,000 miles, but now it is time to move on. Hoping it finds a happy new home.

Cheers,

MagicRat

Went to look at Magic Rat’s car at JZM yesterday....lovely looking car but Voodoo not for me.

They had a lovely looking 997 Turbo S in there which I think had only been posted on their Twitter account an hour or two before I was in the showroom and had sold. Market not dead yet!

JZM do seem to be able to move cars well. When I was there back in September - 918 Spyder was collected, and their Red 991.2 GT2 RS sold over the phone. Quite a few folks in the showroom having a browse also - so busy.

I love the look of these 981 Spyder's and have been thinking about buying one, on and off, for a while now. I went to go and see what seems to me to be a well specced car in Alexander's, and was very tempted! I have to say that the main thing that's holding me back is the price, I'm sure that the Spyder is an extremely good sports car, and better than the 's' I have, but is it worth an extra 50 - 55k? I don't know... I also can't help but think of alternative weekend cars for around the same money e.g. an F430 Spider, albeit much older and with an F1 gearbox. I've no doubt that I'm looking at this all wrong - Spyder owners, please assist!

Christ buy one. You have a plethora of choice at the moment from OPC's and independents. I've never seen so many on the market and thats only because its winter. You could wait for the new one but it'll be expensive on the used market - 100k plus.

You'll lose more money on an 'S' than you will a Spyder. They might be priced higher but depreciation is basically zero if you buy right unlike the S plus an S will never appreciated in value. Its free motoring and you get the best manual gearbox ever made.

Certain Porsches are a good buy with head and heart, this is one of them.

Spyder run was circa 200 cars only so will always be fairly rare sight on the roads F430 Spider cracking car but not as rare, costs to run in a different area code completely plus as you say far older

IMO its all down to the driving experience, pride of ownership, reliability, running costs and hopefully low depreciation going forward but on prices who can say what will happen in these very uncertain times

Whichever one you pick both are cracking pieces of kit

Lovely machines and would love one but for me but not worth 40k more than an S, if a well spec'd S drops I think the Spyder will too. The prices are somewhat inflated.

There was a yellow one, albeit very poorly spec'd that went for max low 60s the other week which was the cheapest I'd seen in quite some time.

It's this one, now for sale at Silverstone OPC for £74000.
Didn't sell then but now has a 2 year warranty. Not the best spec... what, £63k new?

That's an interesting (Read ridiculous) price. I paid £72K new for Standard sport Seats (the ones you can heat), PTS, PCCB and a few other bit and bobs.

Edit: Just seen the mileage too. Though nothing to get excited about, people seem to what exceptionally low mileage in this type of car. I'll be watching to see if these sells (though we wont know what for).

Yep looks like it, nice mark up on that! AC was factory deleted which I see they haven't mentioned. Seems like the first owner went for some kind of purist spec but got it all wrong.

I came from a very nicely specked 2012 boxster s pdk.. and wanted to spend 70-100k on something that would be fun for a year and not lose too many pennies. Thought about 350 / 380 exige / gallardo / r8 v10 plus (newer shape) mclaren 12c/ v12 vantage amung others.
Had previously a 2006 gallardo spyder that was very well looked after and drove it nearly every day for 7 months and 8000 miles, sold it with minimal loss 3k ish and that was 2014 before all the car price rises boom. When looking 3 months ago I couldn't find one in as good as condition as my old one and they were 10k more than what i paid over 4 years ago.
Anyway drove a 981 spyder and liked it enough to lay out the extra 40k over the Boxster S I was already happy with.
Mostly because of the noise, manual stick, bigger adrenalin kick, rarity (I have never seen another on the road ever) about 2.5 years full warranty as bought from opc, and i think it looks great with the roof up or down.
I suggest you test drive one (not in this weather) as the difference above 4500rpm is very noticeable compared to the s or even gts.
My father has a manual v10 r8 spyder I have access to and I have had no urge to drive it as the spyder is so good.
I may be selling at some point but only for a 650s, lp570, huracan performante/ 720s etc (quite a leap in financial terms) and as all these cars mentioned are losing a large chunk every month I am hanging on to the spyder.
Will need to drive a 991 gt3.2 at some point to see what all the fuss is about.
Bloody good car, and you wont lose a packet in depreciation. Is also more usable as I was a lot more concerned when leaving the gallardo parked etc, - most people see this as just another porsche.. Get that test drive in! (dry roads).

I think a few of us have been in this in this position, I certainly have. Its more of a question of what its worth for you, do you have loads of fun when driving your S? If yes then the question is; would you have 50K's worth of extra fun fun driving a Spyder. I've have dribbled over Spyders, imo its the best looking newer Porsche, however its driving characteristics are very similar to all Boxsters. So do you base your 50K jump on how it looks or drives or both?

I have a GTS Manual with X73. So a very similar car in alot of ways. Looks aside, the differences do make the Spyder more fun but how much, noticeable torque around 5K, buckets, smaller steering wheel, shorter shifter mechanism, shorter steering rack, and a very good noise. For me it was a 30K jump, and when driving my GTS that 30K didn't amount to that much extra fun, Instead I decided to fit a Spyder/GT4 steering wheel and shifter mechansim to my GTS for extra feel. However If i was minted I'd go for one, but I'm more likely to get a good track/race car have the best of both (almost).

If it was at new price I'd have the Spyder over pretty much any Porsche out there, yes keep your GT3 RS, for me not much can beat a Spyder for fun on the road and a Radical on track.

Comparing a F430, i was thinking of going to a F430 Spider, coming from a 360 Spider Manual. Its a nice car, but they are old, manuals are super expensive. TBH i was not looking at buying a Boxster but after a test drive I was shocked how good and how much fun it was I forgot about any other cars I had been looking at (R8 V10, Gallardo, F430) and took the GTS (nearly 3 years on an no regrets)

So after all that, I'm saying go drive one, then get back in your S and drive that, you'll know if the Spyder is worth the extra 50K.
