It's this one, now for sale at Silverstone OPC for £74000.
Didn't sell then but now has a 2 year warranty. Not the best spec... what, £63k new?

Had a look on various sites and have to say a lot of Spyders available 24 for this time off year .The Alexanders one looks the most expensive at £86K ,the best value IMO is the private sale one in white for £75 K has all the correct bits ,Mileage seems to be the price point more than spec if you look at all the adds . Mine has no satnav/phone but all the other bits I would say people look for and being Red is a bit unique most like the 987Spyders are white.
Half a notion to test the market 4.500 miles 1 owner FPSH April 2016 Full PPF to front end/ wings/ bonnet/side rockers and rear arches .Gtec ceramic Spy plate . £73K ish

Was tempting at your asking price what did you swap it for?

I didn't, it was a client car that I was selling on his behalf.

Yes Mike bought it for a fair price. Then Silverstone bought it from him.

Before I bought my GT4 some time ago I was sorely tempted by a 981 Spyder and almost bought a white one from Glasgow OPC back in December 2016 but couldn’t quite agree the deal which I wanted buying in a December!
So a GT4 came and went and now own a sublime Cayman R with all the critical spec and just 26,000 miles which is a far better ‘road car’ than the GT4. But I only use it when the sun is shining or on dry evenings so yet again I’m drawn to a Spyder.....
Have a LOI in with local OPC for a 718 Spyder but fear it’s going to be a turbocharged lump which isn’t for me as I love a naturally aspirated engine. So on chatting with OPC today on the phone still no confirmation on new car launch date or engine leaving me back thinking 981 Spyder...
And my OPC just happens to mention they have a lovely GT Silver Spyder with Classic interior, low miles and seemingly good spec in stock...
So Spyder experts what is your opinion on the Chester OPC car? Is it missing any critical spec and what should I be looking to pay for it?? I would have to change the wheel colour as feel that satin black would work better on the GT silver.
Your thoughts are appreciated

Looks great in GT silver although even better with black rims,Fantastic full spec with the full buckets which were an expensive option new..Only thing missing is rear view camera although mine doesn't have it and i now no longer miss it.
Considering its a 16/16 2.5k miles with a top spec its very realistically priced IMO compared to some of the others on Porsche's website. You won't get a better one IMO and i love mine every time i take it out.

Looks great get it bought Chris ! Some people say folding buckets are a must have because they can be heated...for me I’d rather have the 918 buckets as I find them more comfortable.

Hi Chris, hope that you are well?

Spec is really good - I’m in the heated folding bucket camp, but the 918’s wouldn’t stop me buying this. Agree with wheels - but if painting I’d go Weiss or Arum gold - look brilliant against GTSM on the 991.2 RS. (They are Arum, I think Weiss would be even better) . Red interior always looks crap in photos - it looks overly bright , in reality it’s a really nice rich Bordeaux colour that works really well with GTSM. It’s got the nice rear lights too.

Hood works really well and is an absolute doddle to use as long as you know how (I can send you a vid if it helps)

The cars are absolutely superb , I had one and a GT4 and as a road car I much preferred the Spyder. My only gripe was the clutch was overly heavy - I used mine daily (991.2 GT3 is still firm but slightly lighter - I prefer it) but as a weekend toy it’s no problem.

I am hoping the 718 will be NA and if so I will try and get one , but if I can’t or it’s turbo, I’ll be buying another 981 Spyder instead.

I think Spyder in GTSM with the classic interior is a very classy thing indeed - good luck.

smile

Sorry , I forgot - you’ll be disappointed to know they sound unbelievable (without PSE on) - no SWBP re required!

Buy the Jzm 987.2 Spyder, you know it makes sense after the cars you owned, I don’t think you would like the 981 steering, sus, engine etc etc

Emmmm, not sure I’d recommend that, with the 2 standing next to each other you could never pick the 987.2, looks like the ugly sister in comparison, then start them up..... the 987.2 just can’t deliver the same pleasure that the 981 does its the greatest sounding car Porsche has produced in recent years. As a weekend toy, I can’t think of anything better currently....... doesn’t stop me keep looking mind.

Each to their own, but Chris has already sold a GT4 on for a Cayman R for fun over what to be seen in.

The 987.2 car delivers some thing the new cars fail to do sadly and £25k cheaper.

I know this fake exhaust noise seems a trend, but really it’s pretty gash on all accounts and a bit 1980 chav to be honest. Add in the eps, the low mpg, high Tax and a very uninteresting engine it’s a no brainer to go for the older car if you live driving over posing.

987.2 Spyders a true classic and just a better drive all round, the new 718 Spyder will move the game on over the 981 also making the 981 pretty redundant imo, so I expect a big price drop on the current cars once released as they are pretty easy to get new due to the tiny market.

Having owned the GT4, 2x Cayman R, both models of Spyder, 2 GT3 and the latest GT3, my 987.2 Spyder is the only keeper.

Although my oh loved the 981 Spyder the best and it was a nice lifestyle product for sure.

As the owner of both models ..if one had to go it would be the 981..the 987 drives differently cant put my finger on it a bit like a R against a GT4 .I know the 981 is a different car in many ways the noise off the exhaust , but you get fed up after a while with all the pops and bangs .Looks yes the 981 front end is by far the nicest but the rear on the 987 is my choice.
As to the original poster the GT Silver is a nice car the 981 seats in hindsight I should have went for as have height adjustment the lack off heaters on the seats never used not needed with alcantara , The wheels keep them stock ...its what you want not what others say you should get or have either way the Spyders are great cars and think certainly in my case depreciation free and will give you years of pleasure .The roof is not an issue never had one drop off water ingress, the negative is entry into the boot is a faff when the hood is up .

Use the front boot plenty big enough laugh

Brian how many times have you had to faff with rear boot since buying your 981 tongue out

Since early 1997 I have owned 9 Boxsters to date including 987 Spyder manual & 987 Spyder PDK and i thoroughly enjoyed every single version of Boxster I ever owned but can honestly say the current example 981 Spyder is the greatest one too date for my 2000 odd dry sunny miles p.a. and without doubt the best sound track of any Porsche I have ever been in so far

Last summer I did a PEC session in the 991.2 GTS which is the only current model of 911 I would be interested in and I left with zero interest in ever owning a Porsche that sounded so uninspiring even with PSE "ON" and just wasn't half as much fun as the Spyder totally ignoring the vast price difference between the 2 the 981 was the only one for me but as we often say in forums IMO and each to his own for their own personal must haves bottom line is Porsche are yet to make a disappointing sports car

A true classic?? Really? Let’s be honest if your really in to driving and not posing you wouldn’t buy a Spyder?? So I find that comment strange.

Each to there own as you say, and it will be interesting to see what engine they put in the 718,

Honestly about 3 times so not a life changing moment I agree smilesmile Just the 987 as you know is a lot easier to get into with out undoing the flaps. The hood look is nicer in the 987 as the clips are positioned further back gives a more flowing line .
