That is reflected in the prices as well. The focus on PCCB is that the calliper colour tends to drive the interior choices too, so more chance of getting yellow internals. I’ve seen the odd car with red accents and PCCBs but never the other way round. Have I mentioned before I have a spreadsheet smile ?

I have seen 2 black 981 spyders.

1 was in the car park at the 2016 718 launch at east London opc. Black/black.
Other was black with silver wheels. In my local asda of all places a couple of summers ago. I chatted to the owner and he purchased over rrp through opc tonbridge.
It remains only 1 of 2 981 spiders I have ever seen in the wild.
Black does hide the curves so would not be a colour I would seek out tbh.
When I ordered mine I was 50/50 between white and yellow. I played it safe. Then saw the yellow/ black alloy car at Silverstone and knew straightaway I should have gone yellow...
Rare car as well in that shade.

Good luck in your search.

Like the GT3 and GT4, yellow does look good initially but looking at a car briefly is not the same as owning it and imo you would tire of the colour quickly that's why GT3s and GT4s in racing yellow are generally a hard sell. Spyder may be slightly different because of the limited numbers.

Bizarrely yellow was quite popular on new 981 GT4s with 86 UK cars yet there are only 22 991.2 GT3s in RY.

I would have gone for Speed Yellow on the 987 Spyder if it had been a standard choice, but for some reason it was only standard on the Cayman R. I didn’t really want to have to pay for PTS on something you could just tick a box on for what was virtually the same.

Not really a fan of the Racing Yellow compared to the Speed Yellow.

987 PTS was never offered in UK and I believe this is the only example in USA where a dealer managed to get 3 cars done in PTS

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a black one either, looks like the old favourites of White, Silver and Grey are 2/3 of production. I like the yellow stitching too but I think that’s more popular on the GT4. I’d say black with yellow would be a unicorn spec car but I can see why you’d want it! Could be a very, very long wait.

My GT4 was yellow and I thought it was right for the car in my opinion GT cars should be bright colours. I did not get tired of the colour and I had the car for 2 years and 13k miles.
New one will be Blue with Gold wheels, the blue is probably not bright enough but I think it looks the B…….Ks with the gold wheels.

Totally agree abut GT cars being bright colours....that's why I was one of the few that specced Lava Orange on my GT3!

My 997.2 RS was grey with gold wheels and that looked spot on. Think the wheels made it stand out.

Thanks for all the replies so far. Ironically Porsche Reading have just got a black one in stock but with red stitching etc. I’m hoping a few more will come into stock as owners are getting ready for their new Spyder to be delivered later in the year, perhaps that’s just wishful thinking though!

Anyone thinking it was going to be received anything other than a fantastic piece of kit was delusional, Is it however worth the extra 30-40K for myself to swap from my 981 Spyder the answer is No, which is why i turned down my slot.

Henry is one of the best Motoring Journalists however I didn't quite take away the same message from the video. He states lots of compromises have been made in order to circumvent emissions regs (tall gearing...). This does not equal a great drivers car to me, just a great result considering the restraints. 'EPAS has real feel'; now I don't doubt it is probably excellent for an EPAS system but my gut feeling is it is a million miles away from the PAS which pre-dates it. Also the fact it is a great car because no one else produces anything similar is also a bit of a cop out. And no matter how many times he mentioned it sounds great it simply doesn't. It may sound fine compared to the 718GTS but again, meeting all the current regs means there is an inherent compromise. For me, if you really want the purity of driving to tingle the senses you now have to search the back catalogue and it has been this way for some time now.

Fwiw the Spyder test was shot on the road from Loch Tay over to Glen Lyon between Ben Lawers.

Spent week last summer climbing up there.

Great driving roads too.

id have the 981 over the 718. from reading between the lines in the reviews, new engine seems massively compromised and strangled, and the sound isnt as nice.

The old engine was massively compromised and strangled. Just a detuned Carrera S lump with poor economy.

At least this time it's over 400 bhp and higher revving.
