The older folding buckets suit the shorter driver as they sit fractionally higher than the newer fixed buckets the latter of which are height adjustable.
The other point with the folding buckets is that they are slightly more reclined although spacers are available to slightly recline the fixed buckets too.
But the major difference between the seats is that there is more shoulder width but less hip width with the folding buckets compared to the fixed and this fact imo could well be the deciding factor depending on your body shape as to which is the best seat for you.
Having said the above, I would not touch a convertible without heated seats so if the comfort seats are discarded there really is only one option.
I would not say the folding are for shorter people either, the 918 are in fact more better for shorter people as you can also raise them pretty high. The other point with the folding buckets is that they are slightly more reclined although spacers are available to slightly recline the fixed buckets too.

Mr ave fits in the folding no issue, if you are tall or short then the 918 style are a good option, but not a very nice seat so it's a bit of give and take.
No one likes to be slammed in a seat, I find that a bit chavvy and also makes it so you cannot see the front wings or rest you arm on the window sill !!
An odd trend normally found in euro events and on VDubs lol where you can only just see the drivers head !!
I would say if you are 5.6 to 5.11 the foldings are pretty perfect height wise, if you want to see that apex.
I have found in my Golf I upped the bucket seat height rather than my past older days of slamming it to the bottom.
I have folding buckets in my 981 Spyder. I looked long and hard for the right spec and the folding buckets were a must have. Andreas Preuninger says the only 2 things he would spec on a Spyder are buckets and a radio. He says its not possible to connect with the car properly with the comfort seats.
That aside I hunted out and tried all 3 seats. The comfort I didn't actually find comfortable, tried in many cars and just don't like them. The 918's are too upright and I think the design is too fussy, Height adjustment is nice to have though. Folding buckets fit me like a glove! I am only 5'7" and I have actually put 1-2" of extra padding in the seat base to reduce the 'bucket' effect a bit and widen the base and it works, enough room to wriggle. Another 1" went in the back to add some incline. Me and my wife then drove 3,000 miles around Europe with no aches and pains.
I bought my car at the end of Feb this year, I knew prices would go down with the new model imminent so spec was important as was mileage (knowing I would do quite a few) and 2 years warranty.
The spec items that were an absolute necessity for me were:-
White exterior
Folding buckets - pref heated
PCM (for re-sale)
2 zone AC (my wife likes to freeze)
64L tank
Contrast stitching
2 years Porsche Warranty
Not exterior painted rear hoops
Nice to haves:-
Bose
DAB
Cruise
Reversing camera
In the end of the nice to haves I only got the reversing camera which is useless as it just gets wet. The other items have not bothered me.
I would prefer the suspension to be a touch softer for UK roads but CoG have told me MPSS tyres will probably sort that out! (I despise Pirelli P Zeros)

Lmao load of rubbish from AP. I had my GTS on the ragged edge with sports seats and was connected with what the thing was doing. You can't connect with a car if your sat on it. If your having buckets it has to be the 918s. Edited by Bispal on Friday 27th September 18:09
For Spyder id be taking the 18 way heated seats and for GT4 918s.
Btw the above is my opinion and preference.

Aren't the carbon bucket seats and 918 seats not the same thing?
You’ve got the folding buckets which lock back in one position and are fixed for height with manual back and forth. The 918’s I believe will adjust for height.
Then you’re into sport seat options.
For me the buckets really add to the drive and personally can’t believe anyone deselected them when they were standard. You’ll always have more feel for the car being ‘locked’ into place.
I’ve got the folding buckets on the 987 Spyder and personally feel they would be nicer a bit lower (i’m 5’10). I go pretty low in any car though, just personal preference and if pushing on I believe you get a better feel for the car.

Unless you’ve got prehensile buttocks I have no idea how you can drive a car like the GT4 or Spyder near it’s limit in the comfort seats. I am not a good enough driver to be able to control a car when I am struggling to keep myself planted on the seat!Edited by Bispal on Friday 27th September 18:49

I took the GT3 out and on a B road it’s like a rally stage at speed, bum flying off the seat feet off the pedals, no way could you drive like that with chairs lol, but then I go as fast as the car will go.Some people just potter about and chairs are fine.
I took a mate out who loves cars, he was scared stless and would never get in a car with me again, was actually shaking and told me to slow down. I also took my nexdoor nabour out and she said we were on 2 wheels and again, one trips enough.

Sounds like you could do with some driver training....rockin said:

Maybe a slight exaggeration, if not a big accident is a coming.
My 991.1 GT3 had way more ability than was safe to fully exploit on the public roads and I enjoy driving quickly but the car is so planted that when it comes alive you are doing silly speeds and when pushing on on a B road you need to pray there is nothing round the next bend because you would not stop. You can only use its full performance on track.
Driving high performance cars on our roads quickly requires a sensible balance between speed, safety, conditions and ability. The objective being to have fun be safe and come home in one piece without any damage. The majority of owners of performance cars I know are safe and considerate, drive well and have fun but there will always be the odd hero who knows better and all I can say is keep them away from me.
Incidentally I would not put David in the latter category.

You just don't need buckets to drive a car fast on the road or track. Its nice to be held in firmer so your only focused on driving not holding yourself in also. Otherwise any good driver could driver a GT3 at the same pace on road and track using either seat.
You can always wrap a silver one in green? Green with red leather would look awesome....
