Hi Andy

They lock out anyone that nearly buys a 4 cylinder Boxster, please don’t take it personally.

Congrats on the purchase, looks fab.

Lol biggrin
After driving the 981 I just couldn't go through with it and searched out my ideal car.. turned out to be a mahogany metallic bs with luxor beige interior again some people liked it, some people asked me why I bought a brown Porsche tongue out

Hi all , after months of deliberation and following all the 981/718/4.0gts forums I finally bought a 981 spyder, picked up yesterday and loved every minute of the drive home.
I know some will dislike the classic interior but I'm one for something different and I'm sure there are others who agree.. albeit a guilty pleasure wink
Big Congrats Andy !!
A very wise purchase IMHO
I have a GR 981 Spyder, and now also a 718 GT4.
All I can say.... is the Spyder is a complete keeper :-)

Enjoy

Thank you all for the appreciation, I bought it around 3 weeks ago but wanted to wait for cruise to be retrofitted and until I had returned from a short break away.
I sold my 981s back in July last year and have been following forums since then, very nearly went for the new GTS but a similar spec as to what I had on the S would've been around 8k more than what I paid for the spyder by the time you put it on the road.

I went with my heart and bought it as soon as I drove it.
I look forward to sharing a few more photos and stories with you all as the weather starts to improve smile

Btw I got locked out earlier after attempting to change my username.. you can probably guess I nearly bought a 718 at one point wink
You have just bought one of Porsche’s finest IMHO - brilliant cars £ for £. I had exactly the same colour combo , used it as a daily for about 2 years , 12,000 very happy miles - enjoy smile

it's a nice car but it's odd you keep saying this, !! it has dire EPS system, a 2nd gear which takes you to the moon with a detuned engine !!
And a roof you cannot get into the boot with.

if you can get by all those issue it's quite nice :-)

I agree it’s one of Porsche’s finest. Still to date my favourite car I’ve owned, just connected with it so well. Still apprehensive about chopping it in for the 718 Spyder next month but hoping the JCR exhaust will help me get over it.

Best of luck with your new one Andy, I’m sure you will love it.

Congratulations and health to enjoy.
Is that the GT silver car that came up at OPC last couple of weeks?
Hi, yes I believe it was, Bermester sound and the classic interior caught my eye then I made the call wink

I watched your car for a while too, a bargain of a car but I take the car to Spain in summer which wouldn't have worked for me, but in the UK with the roof down it must be heaven.

Thanks, certainly feels good to know you have both generations and still say that about the 981.

Ok, I hear you, but even with all its flaws, there was just something about it that made it really work for me; I guess I just really liked it - only issue I had was the clutch was a tad heavy for a “daily”.

I think other than the muted sound the 718 is even better (as it should be as they are much more expensive) The chassis and engine together really move the car on - proper baby GT now. Sound about to be enhanced by JCR mod smile

Yep - something about the 981 Spyder that just works smile

Don’t worry about swapping to the 718 - it’s a massive step forward - based on the videos I’ve seen; add a JCR mod and it will sound absolutely epic (with a sound that’s far less synthetic) I’ll let you know when I get mine fitted if this follows through in real life smile

Is there any difference in front end height/clearance between 981 vs 718?

Yep, the 718 is 10mm lower and has a longer nose.

Just saying I absolutely love my Spyder and I plan on keeping it until the government tells me I have to scrap it :-)

As regards the GT4 I’ve yet to make my mind up how long this will stay.......
It’s a cool car, but I’m a 99% road drive, so not at the track every week.

I was told by my PEC instructor on my 75 minute road test the ride height was 5mm lower than 981! TBH I couldn't say it felt or looked any lower but I can say the PSE below 5k rpm is barely audible and between 5-7+++k rpm no high pitch scream and volume 4/10 max

1 feel Porsche could have done so much better than this so sound track between 981 -718 is night & day in difference imo eek

Agreed but at a serious price £4295 and no doubt potential warranty hassles with Porsche if something fails that they can blame on the JCR

But this is what I mean when I say Porsche could have done so much better than the new GPF PSE delivers I am sure the latest GT3's & Speedster have not been so dumbed down as the GT4/Spyder furious

Seriously .... please don’t remind me about the price - I’m currently in full denial mode - I’d just about forgotten about that - bloody hell !!

Edited it add ....... it does sound rather epic though smile
