Just booked in my 981 Spyder for its 4 year service at the OPC.
Thankfully they have agreed to match the now removed and discontinued Porsche total-transparency fully inclusive pricing so £995 including VAT including oil service, brake fluid service and new spark plugs so not too horrendous and better than a lot of people have been paying recently for the same (£1,250+ in many cases!)
Now just the decision to make on the extended warranty...…
111 Point check FOC at time of service
£1,190 for 2 year Porsche warranty
£285 for 2 year Porsche assistance
Presume there will be a lot of Spyders coming out of hibernation in time for 4 year servicing so this may be helpful.
Roll on the Spring!
Hi ....managed to get my local OPC to give me a 10% discount on this cost ....used the indie cost of only £550 as a bargaining tool ...I’m in South Yorkshire so I use Sheffield Thankfully they have agreed to match the now removed and discontinued Porsche total-transparency fully inclusive pricing so £995 including VAT including oil service, brake fluid service and new spark plugs so not too horrendous and better than a lot of people have been paying recently for the same (£1,250+ in many cases!)

981 Spyder's are brilliant cars and are great value compared to the 718 Spyder. But just for a bit of balance from someone who has done lots of miles in both cars; I can’t agree on the comment relating to suspension set up- IMHO the 718 chassis is a massive step on from the 981 and is absolutely bloody brilliant on UK A/B roads. Also looks wise the 981 is a very sexy car, of that there is no doubt, but put them side by side and I know which one I’d choose. Are these differences worth the price variance, of course not, but that’s true of any old vs. new version of the same car - but we all fall for it at some point.
Seriously though - enjoy your Spyder's - they are such a great car
Morning R, I hope you're well ? My knee jerk response would be the later car is the better looking, but a comparison of their rear ends tells a slightly different story. I think it fair to say the later car's rear end is definitely more aggressive (specifically the exhausts and diffuser arrangement) but I'm not sure it's better for it, on the contrary, I think it's all starting to look fussy and overly complex when compared with the simpler, cleaner lines of the 981 :Seriously though - enjoy your Spyder's - they are such a great car
Quite why Porsche feel the need to emblazen their name across the back of every car they produce now, is a mystery to me, all the more so as they didn't do so for the first 45 years ? Either way a mere "Spyder" badge would suffice nicely.
Excuse my poor photo shop skills :
There is one improvement to the 718's rear end, and that's the deletion of the earlier cars awkward reverse lamp that messed up the otherwise neat, uncluttered looks of the 981.
The wheels on the later car are a definite win too.
As I said earlier in this thread, I think the ex-press Guards red 981 Spyder sans aircon and nav, that had PCCB's that struggled to sell for so long, would have been my choice.
A trip to Herr Ehresmann to liberate some additional ponies (circa 420-425) and perhaps in time a Sharkwerks re-gear of the transmission and a decent head unit to enable web-based sat nav and stream audio, would make the perfect long term keeper 981 Spyder
FWIW I completely agree with you on the whole Porsche 3d logo thing - it’s crass and showy, as is the whole rear end “essay model number” thing - all very chav.
However, I still think in the round, especially when seen together the new design works better, but in truth, so what; design is completely subjective, so it matters not a jot what I think in this (& most other if the truth be know) regard.
I do however think that the way the car handles is less subjective and honestly, I’d be amazed if anyone who drives a 981 and then a 718 back to back thought that the 718 hadn’t moved things on significantly dynamically. Also although on paper the power is similar, the low down torque in the 4.0 makes for a much more responsive car in the real world - technically it really is a very impressive car (you’d hate it !)
However, it doesn’t sound as good and although this can easily be fixed there are cost and warranty implications in doing so and as such, I can completely understand why people would prefer the 981 - however, if one can genuinely get a 718 at list, I think few people would turn that down over a 981.
Not that any of this matters - I’m boring myself and wish I hadn’t posted now

Agreed. That‘s why I‘ve specced mine with black Porsche and body coloured 718 Spyder, so it‘s less noticeable.A little look at the cars side by side - start at about 3 mins in.

God you search out quality content for the community and this is the thanks you get !What are you talking about H, I think it’s Catchpole standard ; a proper heavily researched, weighty bit of video journalism with a theme running through it.
In fairness I did save you from the first 3 minutes. .
And to save anyone else the bother - the sum up is simply this ; the very nice young lady preferred the newer car much to the annoyance of the very nice young man who owns the older car. (& is understandably more keen on the nice young lady than the very nice young lady seems to be on him)

God strewth, I venture the tiniest bit of constructive criticism and I have to suffer this barrage of slings and arrows. Unbelievable
And my version... Perma-tanned, publicity seeking, famous for no other reason than she's famous, "cloth-eared bint" (© Basil Fawlty) likes newer, shinier version of car, proving just how shallow she is in the process.
Bloke with older car not bothered as he just wants wants to shag said airhead, but in reality has more chance of shagging the Pope. All contributors have however successfully satisfied their narcissistic tendencies for another day. The end.

Re the Pope - I’m not a religious man and also I’m no expert, but pretty sure that sort of thing is out of the question ?

Having had it now for 6 weeks odd I'm really pleased with it. it's a great stablemate for the GT3.
Grappling with keeping the benefits of the 2 year warranty against a regear etc. I'd like it to be a bit stiffer front end so will be taking it to CG or similar at some point. Ideally get to know it a bit better before I do that.
The 911V car looked brand new I went to see Tom a while ago and looked over it then.
Cheers
10 years behind the curve I just picked up a 987 Spyder.
Manual, PCCBs, PSE...what a hugely fun car. Light, goes where pointed, enough power for public roads, sounds reasonable and I cannot see it depreciating from here much at all..
Very happy with it so far.

PCCB 987 Spyders are rare as hens teeth, but the brakes rip your face off on a car this light.
Enjoy it, not much better at any money out there to drive.
