Snap!

Good to see another Spyder with PCCBs at the ‘ring.

is this the 3rd missing sister car ? ie launch spec no AC, Radio but PCCB's ?

I took mine out the OPC for it's 10year, for an oil change I cannot pay £800 :-(

My 2010 987 got serviced at the OPC just after the Covid lockdown - was due to go in just prior but I decided to cancel.

Service ended up at just over £3k as the coolant cross over pipes and rear wishbone bushes came up as needing rectified on the service, so ended up as an expensive service for me frown

The MOT did mention that the front/rear brake pipes were needing doing, as it has not moved since the MOT/service and its tucked up in the garage over winter I will address that in the spring next year. May use a local Porsche indy for the pipes as I think the OPC was on a post Covid money making excercise as just saw an open cheque book.

No - not the missing car. This has PCCB, PSE, AC, radio...and the comfort seats...frown

Cannot believe anyone didn't spec the folding buckets (zero cost option) and just replace them with comfort seats and keep the buckets for resale.

Car is absolutely brilliant for road trips though. Kept up with much more HP (and more weight!) cars.

987 Spyder manual - slight flatspot/hesitation between 2000 and 3000 rpm.

Is this 'normal' or do I need to check the vacuum actuator and operation of the plenum flaps (I assume the stock 3.4 DFi has some sort of flap in there?.

Flat spot is normal due to emissions regs (very annoying).

Regarding the missing 3rd car, I believe it was RV10 WJY
My car was RF10 KKP plus your car David.

Presume the flat spot can be mapped out?

Or do we need to replace the intake plenum with the IPD flapless one and GT3 throttle body.

no need for TB, I was told these flow enough air, where the 987.1 did not. (I did the TB in my gen 1 car)

so I just have Manifolds with 2x200 cel cats, evom air intake and a remap for 99 ron fuel, it's instant throttle every where and circa 355bhp.

the 981 seems to have those 2 big air intakes and with a TB can do 380BHP but the 987.2 cannot.

Did you have the 2000-3000 flat spot before the mods?

I currently have Porsche warranty, so need to keep it stock - though I expect I could map out the flatspot.

Just want to make sure it isn't an actual fault - like a vacuum leak or the intake flaps not working properly.

It’s well known on the R , but I never noticed it as being at 2-3k revs is not really my thing. it was a co2 hack by Porsche.

I have owned RV10WJY since Oct ‘14. Bought from OPC Swindon. Doesn’t have PCCBs though.

Your car was the main press car, I assumed it had PCCB. Your car is the actual car James May drove wink

Yes, I saw that after I’d placed the deposit (dealer didn’t mention it, no surprises there!) although I prefer to think of this road test when imagining whose back side has graced my driver’s seat wink.

Sounds like mine’s only worth a bag of cheesy wotsits so I guess I’ll keep enjoying driving it and render the value talk irrelevant to me.

lol one day these cars in the UK will finally get some respect and values. if it had a 911 badge it would be a £250k car by now.
The issue in the UK is people go for status over the drive so the guys with the money buy the new stuff.

987.2 Spyder is iconic imo and will have it's day, they seem so cheap vs what's out there at £40k today and fun.

what are German prices at these days ?

In Germany; around 70k average, but you will never see one with 'the full lightweight spec'. Any manual with PCCB starts with an 8 but they rarely come up for sale, if ever. I'm not really bothered about value and feel I was very fortunate to get this specific car without anyone else realising it was for sale. Whilst they are overlooked by the masses, that means they are still drivable. If they were £250k or whatever, I'm not sure I'd be so easy going about giving it a full workout through the Eifel mountains.

The best car I have owned by some margin and I include the GT3RS in that. They are just simply magnificent. Not a car I would ever want to part with.

they get under your skin and at this price people are missing out on a proper car.

I have 3 mates with these now ! and another wants one. Name a usable special , reliable drivers car for £40k ? or even £60k you can take to shows, it keeps value but it's fun to drive. very hard to even name 1 other car ! bar it's sister R , the next sped is a 996 GT3 at £65k I guess and a 997 GT3 at £75k
So all porkers !

I've just done 5 days in the Black Forest with mates in a F430 Scud, Ferrari 458, McLaren 600LT, Gallardo Superleggera, 992, R8 V10, 997 GT3 and Aston v8 roadster. I managed to keep up (generally) with the Scud/600 LT - though on faster sweepy stuff they had more grip (both running sticker tyres - Cup2 and Trofeo R I think). Everyone was quite surprised that the Spyder was keeping up and I left quite a few in the twistier sections (especially those with steel brakes).

Great car.
