Bang goes the idea of Porsche making a truly epic Cayman, then. A 25 hp re-map and a 50k weight saving, I bet.

Looking forward to any new info on a 981 R as soon as possible lets hope it does not disapoint with spec colours and price.
Lets hope info comes along quickly before i make a decision for a car for next spring either the old R or a 981 s or a gts.

Let's just hope they don't follow the lead of the 991 GT3 and make it pdk only.

I don't think I could buy it unless they do some thing with the steering.

The only thing which might sway me is 370+ Bhp and gear ratios which are usable.

Very fine line on these tyres of cars what works imo.

I've never understood why people dribble over these over-priced special editions. Just buy the car and enjoy it! The chances of noticing few bhp here or a few kg there are very, very small.

If it has 370bhp that's quite a big jump over the 325bhp it has now.
Add in the custom shocks and buckets which should come as standard
It's then cheaper than specing one up.

The R is loads cheaper then specing up a standard car, which is why I find it odd that people unspec the most expensive bits. But then expect high resale.

As said the R is better speced to start with and any special edition holds its value better than any standard model which loses loads as we can see now with standard Caymans.
Also Swaping my GT3 i want something thats a little more focused.

Actually, the 987R wasn't over priced relative to the 987S. If you wanted what the R offers, the combination of options worked out more economical than speccing an S to an R configuration. Notwithstanding the fact that you were unable to spec LSD, you'd also be down fractionally on power and a variety of other minor tweaks which universally seem to be regarded as totalling more than the sum of the parts bin from which they were raided.

It's a shame that they persist in sheltering the mid-engine platform under the 911. I wonder how much other segments will push Porsche into increasing power output - M3 and M4 cars are high 3's/low 4's to 60 and while it's a different proposition, competition outside of the marque must surely force Porsche to revisit product development plans. I don't think I've ever felt either of my cars are breathless or lacking in performance but a little more wouldn't see me complaining.

I'm interested to see what they'll do with the styling for the 981 - the Boxster is aesthetically perfect with top up or down but there are aspects of the Cayman - the rear view primarily that don't work for me. Not sure what a fixed wing on the 981 would look like to be honest.

Just an observation. I think that after a GT3 you might find a distinct lack of "focus" when you push any 981s throttle pedal. It's a nice, quick car with beautiful balance but it's not a road-burner in a straight line.

Don't disagree with what you're saying, but you could order an LSD on the 987.2 Cayman

Having owned 2 987 Boxster S's which, by the way I really liked, I would say my Spyder is significantly different to drive. Definitely much less usable as a daily driver and all-rounder but much more of an event and oodles of feel which is what I was after.
