I've only had my Boxster since November, so not an expert, hence asking for advice here.

My left exhaust is matt black, but my right one is wet and gloss black. I only use it to go 7 miles to work and back, so could it just be that it needs a run? I've only put 1000 miles on it since I bought it, so I'm hoping there's no major problems surfacing.

2005 Boxster S 3.2 with Parr turbo conversion.

Thanks.

On the TPC (Parr) turbo conversion, one tailpipe is for the main exhaust, the other is for the turbo wastegate, The main exhaust pipe will be quite sooty, the wastegate exhaust will not get as sooty, as exhaust gasses only come out when the car comes off boost. Think that will explain the differences.

Obviously, if you have any concerns, the best people to speak to would be Parr though.

Thanks. I don't appear to be losing oil, so I'm not overly concerned, but I thought I'd seen somewhere in a forum that an oily exhaust on one side was the indicator of a problem. I had a quick Google, but couldn't find anything, so thought I'd have a quick ask on here.

I'll keep an eye on the oil level and drop Parr and email to confirm.

Thanks again.

Sooty talpipe on one side is the mark of scored bores. Check out the hartech threads and buying guides.

First port of call should be PARR though.

Ah OK, that must be what I read. The car had a borescope test before I bought it and I've only done 100 miles, so I'd be surpirised if that was the issue, but I've sent an email to Parr just to be on the safe side.

Edit: Just had this confirmation from Parr.

Basically you have one exhaust outlet (the sooty one) and one wastegate pipe (the clean one). They always run rich (creating soot) as this is due to the revised ecu map. Always better to run rich than lean! If you look under the rear bumper at the exhaust system it will make a bit more sense.
