Sorry Mr Fizzbomb, but I just don't get it. Why would you buy 6 Cayman Rs and keep all of them or for that matter, multiple examples of any modern car ?

It's your money to spend how you like, but it just doesn't make sense to me.

If I were you I'd have one great 981 - GTS or GT4 and some serious classic metal.
I wish I still had all 6 of them, I owned them before they received the recognition they deserved.

OK, so you maybe swapped around looking for the right combination of gearbox, seats and colour. But once you had what you wanted?

So long as you recognised it as a great car, who cares if others had not yet realised this?

As I said before, spend your money how you wish and I'm not having a go at you, I just can't understand chopping and changing so often.

I look at used cars online all the time and have configured dozens of others, mainly Porsches, but if I bought them all I'd be bankrupt and single.

Pete, it was the best thing I ever did. Just imagine playing around with the Porsche configurator for the 981 Boxster/Cayman and then having all the colours (different roof colours for the Boxster), with different types of wheels, it was the best thing I ever did. Also, I bought a lot of my examples with near full spec, so I was very careful in my purchases.

Furthermore, the only mistake I made with the Cayman R was when I stopped buying them, I should have simply carried on...

So long as you are happy.

I continue to be delighted with my solitary Cayman GTS!

My last CGTS is at Porsche Brooklands now, I think it's an incredible car, I wish I could have loved and cherished one car, but somehow I deviated.

I had a scare last week in mine, a rock got caught in the PCCB rotor and it sounded like a pebble being rattled in a tin can. I only went about 10 metres from a take off and fortunately after about 15 minutes I got it dislodged and it didn't mark my rotor. I was just about to call a flat try though, as I couldn't see it to get it out, but it eventually worked its way out.

Not a pleasant feeling though.

It's that time of year I think - I had a similar thing (I think!) last week as I was driving through my estate. Downhill and bend to the right at gentle pace c.20mph and I heard a nasty scraping from the left of the car. it stopped as soon as the road levelled and straightened out. Proper heart in mouth moments tho.

Putting 2 and 2 together, I had the wince-inducing rattle of gravel/road grime hitting the underside as I turned into the downward slope, so I think something has hopped in and stayed scraping around for a few yards before falling out on the level.

At least that's what I hope! Nothing before or since, but still enough to make me cringe like someone was running nails down a chalk board!

I've had that happen a few times now, it’s dislodged itself after about 10 mins or so and then the other time, I’ve had to remove the rear disc completely as the stone had worked it's way into where the hand brake mechanistic is located under the disk hat.

Both times it’s like a high pitch scraping noise, which is horrid. To my mind the shield on that back of the hub is too small for the PCCB disk but I've had the checked out by the OPC which they just termed as bad luck.

Had a controversial interior colour though...
I do love a bit of espresso interior in a Porsche smile For me the exterior colour would white to go with it though.

It's easier on the eye than the old Cocoa brown.

Well, my old car has gone up for sale after I px-ed it with Portsmouth for my 997 GTS - looks so tasty I almost want to buy her back! Used prices appear very strong, spec of that car was £68K new (excluding a £1K discount I managed to secure which I thought was quite impressive!)

I'm guessing you didn't get through that one on your 981 ownership-fest! wink What do I win?!

On a serious note, it was a big gamble, but when I saw it in the flesh at the factory collection, I was sooo happy I went for it. In bright sunlight it looks magic cloud9
