I would imagine just as much as you! I could make the same comment with equal (more?) validity. You are obviously more concerned about how your car looks rather than how it functions - I take the opposite view, which does seem a bit of a rarity in the Porsche world.

Reversing - or even wanting to see out of rear window - after being parked in the rain... rear wiper... rather useful.

Radical concept - Next you'll be defending those horridly ugly parking sensors or headlamp washers. laugh

I said I think the rear wiper looks terrible, I hate it. Then you come out with some nonsense like " I assume you don't like the front wipers either and don't use them - they look just as bad"

Talk about exaggerating....are you on your period?

You find it useful, I would have no need for a rear wiper, and wouldn't want one because yes it looks terrible, ruins the rear of the car......let me guess your going to say..."so the front ones ruin the front of the car too then"....no they don't.

Melting snow? I clear all snow of my cars before drive....people who don't are idiots. Melting ice, mine seems fine with heated rear windscreen.

I was to a degree talking tongue in cheek. Are you happy with those hideous parking sensors or headlamp washers? Some have posted that they aren't - Twinfan (sorry) suggested that a bung replacing a rear wiper was totally unacceptable.

Has it not occurred to you that there are VAST differences between people's views on this forum on aesthetics - and that it's impossible to say one view is right or wrong? And just perhaps your remark about periods might be just a bit juvenile?

I'm sorry, but such sentiments come from people with a totally different set of priorities to me. Of course, they might be right, and I might be wrong.
Regarding clearing melting ice and snow - you do it by hand if you wish, I prefer to do it by wiper if that is an option.

No - I'm not.

It tickles me that these are now rated as a must have item, often by people whose other posts are about trail braking into 120 mph corners, clipping an apex, heel and toe changes, the merits of roll cages and harnesses, yet don't know where the corners of their car are without some sort of mental xylophone noise to guide them.

I had them on my last Cayman and they drove me nuts in my own driveway.

You make a fair point - but I was referring to the fact that some object to them on aesthetic grounds.

Rear wipers on Caymans do not look right at all - in my opinion. Others may think different, which is cool!

I don't really buy the 'functional' argument as if without a wiper it's somehow the worst thing ever. It really isn't. Parking sensors, reversing camera, wing mirrors...my own eyes and ability to turn my head to look at things...all of that means I really couldn't give a monkeys if the rear wiper is there or not. Handy if it is - don't care if it's not.

I've had a wide range of cars so an quite used to managing without rear wipers. Saloons tend not to have them (my S3 saloon, for example), most coupes don't have them (my RX8s for example)..in fact, the majority of cars I 'grew up with' had no rear wiper.

The ridiculous argument regarding front wipers is exactly that - ridiculous.

Each to their own, for sure - that's why things are options. It's a good thing! Personally, if I were specing a car from new, I would not tick the rear wiper box. Looks cack and I wouldn't miss it.

Of course it's ridiculous to take that view - that was the point I was making!

Love that in our existence we can have a mildly heated discussion about having a rear wiper on our Porsches....I honestly don't know how the unwashed masses survive...

Yes, not good. I've only ever thought about it once in 7 years of 911/Cayman ownership and even then in that one time I still managed without it.

To wing or not to wing....

The above photo made me think about the rear wing on the GTS (also the earlier comments about fitment when down). In all sales material for my car, the car was photographed with the wing up. The OPC I deal with said, "It looks good when it's up". And I agree with him. I would say I have put the wing down/in auto maybe three times and that then resulted in me trying to make it come up again for the novelty factor of watching it in the rear view mirror (not the smartest move, tbh!)

I never really thought of myself as a 'wing' guy (they have their place, but they can also look utterly shocking...I'm looking at you, Civic Type R...), but I think it makes the GTS look more purposeful without it being all about the wing. If that makes sense?

What's the general consensus - wing fixed up or on auto?

Wing down. Only so that people can see it pop up when you hit the national speed limit.

Whenever I've seen the wing up on other cars travelling at a slower speed I just think the driver has missed an opportunity to show this feature off.... :-P

You see, it's not NSL...it's 75mph. To me that's a little close to the bit where if an officer of the law saw it come up he would pull you over and ask questions. wink Ha ha. I know they couldn't prove you didn't just press the button, but it might end up wasting a little of your day at the road side.

Wing on auto, always. The only exception is cleaning.

Auto only, i think the cars look sleeker with them down.
