Hi all.
I’ve been reading and enjoying this thread for sometime. I’ve got a CGTS Agate Grey with PCCB, PTV and Manual plus a ton of other options that I bought from an OPC about a year ago. Love it!
But I’m getting a bit taken with the reviews of the 991.2 GTS so thinking of swapping. OPC thought I was crazy to spec PCCB and Manual as nobody specs that way. But driving a PDK felt no more fun than the Cayman.
If I sell the Cayman, I’ll never find another grey one with that spec... so do I swap or stick?

What do you reckon - stick with the Cayman ... I’ll never find another Grey one with that spec... or go for the 991.2 GTS?
My view is that is a great understated touring spec car without the brash looks of the GT3/4 etc. It suits certain people - i.e. for me it makes sense if you don't track and/or want to avoid too much attention.

I had a the same spec on my CGTS (though in Guards Red) and sold it earlier this year. I've regretted it badly and am hoping to get back into one in similar spec one day but I hardly ever see this kind of spec coming up.

I would expect the 991 to be a very different experience but well worth looking into. I've driven a few turbo 6s in the past 6 months and am impressed by the hammer like delivery of power and torque but I also still like the NA power delivery though I wouldn't say which is preferable - it depends on my mindset at the time. It's pretty difficult/impossible to find anything new(ish) which has the same/similar characteristics of the CGTS for the money - though the 991.1 GTS, GT3 and GT4 would probably give you that if you are lucky to land one.

I'm currently in a 10 year old Z4M as I wanted to go back to some old school motoring having missed out when I was younger. For me it's as much of a joy as the CGTS though with a bit (lot?) less glamour attached to it. The main thing for me is given the price I'm a lot less precious about it than a Porsche which actually increases the enjoyment.

If you have a manual CGTS of a particular spec it will be VERY hard to replace. Only 135 made it to the UK and only a handful are ever for sale at any one time. Adding one or two key spec items seriously narrows your choice further - PCCBs in particular are rare given the inital (and potential replacement) cost.

I would only let one go if you're absolutely sure you won't suffer from sellers remorse. I have a CGTS with manual gearbox and have hardly seen any that I would consider acceptable to me if I was buying used. I'm pretty sure it's my forever car now that the only NA and manual coupe options that I can buy new are:

Toyota GT86
Ford 5.0 V8 Mustang

The Porsche GT3/GT4 I've ruled out as unobtainable to a mere mortal.

As Prestonese says, the CGTS is a superb GT3 Touring alternative. The 3.4 engine is a peach and the car itself is very understated in a good way.

135 in the UK is rare, but the owners are likely to be enthusiasts who therefore frequent forums winkbiggrin

Great car the GTS , sold mine almost 2 years ago and it was the highest spec car that had been made at the time or that's what I was told. Still miss it at times as it was such a fine around car and is probably the sweat spot in all the Porsche range

Agreed - at £55k - £60k for an almost-new one it's a lot of car for the money. I know it's not an inconsiderable sum but the road-biased flat six NASP Cayman is a car we'll never see again.

Similar to the 997 GTS....only 100 came to the UK with a manual box. Because it has the Powerkit engine it revs that much more freely than the normal 3.8 engine....and produces 408 bhp. Sensibly priced ones sell very quickly...only Hexagon's hang around (less sensible prices).

Not sure I'd classify it as a GT3 Touring alternative....more a 911 T alternative.

No doubt soon we will see one marketed as such and also as a "future classic" with "investment potential" :-)

Price-wise it's a 991T alternative, but in ethos I think it's closer (just) to a GT3 Touring i.e. very quick and sporty, but still comfy on the road. T is about having (a little bit) less frippery going on and not putting the most powerful engine in it that you could have, and is not all about being as fast as possible. 997 GTS is about making a regular Carrera as performant as you can for the road without going to far down the track day optimizing side

Not saying one or the other etois is better mind. Horses for courses etc smile
