I notice that the OPC list is showing 13 CGTSs - 8 718s and 5 981s. Even though all but one 718 cars are POA, if you sort by price they appear to be put into an order so it may be that an price is stored but not visible.

If that's true, then 981 and 718 prices are overlapping. Ignoring the Viper Green car, three 718s are cheaper than the most expensive 981. The cheapest 981s have at last 13k mileage and I assume the 718s are much less than that.

Once we get a few 718s with higher mileage it will be interesting to look at prices. I'm expecting 981s to hold steady and 718s to drop below them unless the four pot gets more widely accepted...
Continuing on my 718 long term loan I am not surprised at how the market is reacting to this model, and to the 981. I am unimpressed with the 718, don’t even feel like driving it, let alone exited about it... what a shame, Boxster/ Cayman was in my view the best of all current non GT Porsches... if the 718 is a sign of what petrol propelled cars will be like, I am looking forward to the fully electric model !!

that is a bit rude on the 718 isn't it? not fan of the turbo 4cyl... however, there are some really good thing about this car...
it revs quite high, even tho max power is reached a bit earlier than on 3.4, this engine is a weapon especially the S and its vtg,
the chassis is just on another level from 981,
the pdk is even faster than on 981
the whole package is a real weapon, especially on track...
but i agree, the emotion is just not there... and it is very hard to go faster than a 981 on open roads.

Maybe I went a bit too far, and shouldn’t be posting out of respect towards 718 owners, but I really wanted to like the car, and feel so disappointed that I may have to switch to one if I want to stay within this Porsche model and a left hand drive. But I’ll stop posting on the 718. I’ll try a GTS down the road and if I feel positive about it, I’ll post again.
Thanks !

The chassis is exactly the same other than the pasm being 10 mm lower on the 718, I was unable to find Porsche’s technical data on pdk shift speed for comparison could you post a link?
The 981 is lighter and the same brakes are carried over, when I was looking to buy either, the only differences I found were engine and Apple car play on the newer model

Not quite true. The brakes are a little different, the disks are a bit thicker but sizes are the same I think. Steering rack is different, faster on the 718. The Sport Chassis option is now a -20mm PASM rather than a -20mm passive damper setup. All suspension options are firmer than the 981 by all accounts.

Lots of little tweaks and nips and tucks. Nothing major though in my experience, just usual mild facelift stuff.

718 GTS was disappointing. yes a faster pdk box (milliseconds) and a slightly slicker chassis but in reality who pushes these cars to extreme on a track. real life road driving, the differences are relatively minor compared to that engine note.

in honesty, the experience reminded me of the Golf R quick, smooth, good mpg, composed. mundane.

agreed, who push the car to the limit?
what i was saying was they pushed the limit further...
on a twisty circuit i managed to gain 3sec on a 718 S (pdk sport chassis) vs my cayman gts (sport suspention but manual with my amateur level on a 65sec lap. on both car i was quicker than 97 gt3, exige, turbo s 991 tho.

+1 this is why after also testing a Golf R, I bought a 981...

Same here, had a 981 CGTS and Golf R. Golf R one of the worst cars I ever had. Pathetic 2 litre engine - may as well have been an EV.

A bit harsh on the Golf R!

My other half has one, it’s a great everyday car.....very accomplished down a wet B road and would leave me for dead for sure.

you should consider switching to Michelins on your Cayman - the grip in the wet is leagues ahead of the Pirellis and you might even fare a bit better against the golf smile

79th ....... how does that ever happen, you must lose fortunes in depreciation and dealer margins.

I agree, I run one alongside the 981 as my daily and don't find it boring at all. It doubles up as a fun car during the winter months too.

On the 718 discussion, rather than aiming for the gts maybe try the base car with a manual box. It has enough power to enjoy pushing the car and it's fun to have a manual box that isn't overgeared like the 981 generation - no 85 in 2nd anymore!

I had the R at the same time as my Boxster. Really was a bland car.

I have a Golf R estate and I quiet like that it’s bland. I have just about all the excitement and fun I can handle with a manual GT3 as my other car. Not everyone wants the same thing from a car.

I could see how a boggo Golf R might seem a little mundane next to a Boxster but I love mine. I've had it mapped up to 400 lbft of torque mind, that transforms it into a total wolf in sheep's clothing weapon. R8 has 400 lbft by comparison. I'd struggle to see how any car could get away from my R during the winter months, it's such an effortless rocket.
