Respected indie servicing shouldn't be an issue to a lot of people, but it will be a turn off if the next owner wants to run a warranty (as will the tyres and grilles).
If you're planning to keep it yourself for the long haul then I'd maybe consider swapping the tyres for N spec and seeing if your OPC will 'ignore' your grilles. If not, keep a slush fund and have fun

as obvious as that is i hadn't taken it into consideration. the tyres and grilles for the next owner wouldn't be as much of an issue because if i did have to sell i have a brand new set of Pirellis I can have put back on the car.as far as the grilles are concerned these are pretty straightforward to take off but they will leave scratches on the bumper...

swapping the tyres locally is about £100 a go, and i'll be putting the Michelins back on after.such a PITA that the standard Michelins aren't considered good enough as they're so much better than the 'approved' Pirellis.
i don't suppose anyone has a set of wheels and N rated tyres they'd like to loan me for the time the car is being serviced? Winters or anything N rated that will fit the car would do...

They would need to be the correct and approved wheels for a 981 Cayster (size, offset and design) and genuine Porsche, obviously. A PITA I know, but they would have to be possible on the car from new or the approved 19"(?) winter wheel/tyre option.JasonSteel said:
the 4 year service will be coming up on mine soon (October).
i'd like to free myself of the shackles of OPC servicing and warranty but i'm well aware that any problems will likely end up costing me so i'm trying to consider as much info and opinions as possible.
i know some of you are weighing up the pros and cons right now and i'm interested in any decisions being made.
i currently have non N rated MPS4S (which i love) and these are non warranty items, together with the zunsport grilles and i would need to change tyres and possibly remove grilles for the car to pass required checks.
i don't intend on selling unless am forced to do so (things go wrong financially etc).
if i did have to sell, would independent servicing devalue the car? car has a 'desirable' spec incl. manual, buckets, X73, PTV, int pack and so on.
as far as i know some of the issues i’ve read about on here (such as engine mount failure and or brake pedal sticking) hasn’t happened on mine yet so i'm worried sod's law will mean these or other things will rear their ugly head after the warranty expires.
I’ve recently had both PSE valves failed within six weeks of each other after approx 14k miles and nearly 3 years. Cost would have been 1.5k each according to OPC Teesside. I’m renewing warranty for 2 years tomorrowi'd like to free myself of the shackles of OPC servicing and warranty but i'm well aware that any problems will likely end up costing me so i'm trying to consider as much info and opinions as possible.

Will do. The car is still on the classifieds here I think.
Is it the one at Alexanders? Very nice car. Best colour too!Twinfan said:

18" are also an option on the GTS (see below).does anyone know if the there are any issues presenting a car for warranty renewal if it has winter wheels and tyres fitted when it's not yet winter?

I don't think the problem would be renewal but what happens if your car gets recovered with your non N rated tyres on it. Its at this point where your problems would begin.does anyone know if the there are any issues presenting a car for warranty renewal if it has winter wheels and tyres fitted when it's not yet winter?

After years of indecision I finally swapped my Cayman 987.1 S for a 981 GTS on Saturday.
I was a bit worried I would miss the old car having owned it for seven years.
That worry didn't last long, new car is awesome. I am even liking PDK, my preference would have been manual but the right car didn't come up.
Car was from OPC Swindon, previously at JZM. I believe somebody on here said it was their old car, not sure why JZM didn't sell it - Swindon purchased it from them. Seems clean to me so hopefully no skeletons..

What's the GTS exterior pack?
the satin black plastic exterior trim (mainly on bumpers and side intakes i think?) is painted gloss black.Exterior GTS pack = Gloss black exterior trim instead of Matt black (including under wing mirrors and roll hoops)
Most people did not even know it was an option and its pretty rare. To me it was not a must have but if two cars where identical and one had it and one did not I would prefer it with. It makes a bigger difference with some exterior colors than others IMHO eg on a white GTS it looks fantastic.
Also if you end up fitting black zunsport grills they are gloss black so they look more OEM as they match the bumper trim better.
You can’t see the Zunsports very well on this pic of my car but it gives you an idea of the gloss black trim...
