Just reminds me of 17 year olds back in the day with massive exhaust on Saxo/Nova's

If that your thing that's great.
A bit like putting a cat bypass pipe on a GT3 eh? hehe

I best get a lambo now before i hit 40 in several years lol. Although original Gallardo with a decent exhaust sounded nice.

Christ. My Dad was still doing burnouts in the driveway, “waking up” mobile speed camera vans and searching for tunnels in his 60’s ...

Growing up is overrated.

we are not talking about having fun , we are talking about fake exhaust over fueling noises.

My dad is 57 now, took him out in the GTS roof off, in a tunnel, made it pop intentionally and he st his pants.

Doing that in the Birmingham tunnels sounded like gun shots and people were not happy with me one evening, i thought it was hilarious!

The 410 I drove had most ( probably all) of the "comfort" options - full leather interior, aircon, infotainment, (almost certainly) sound proofing (it was quiet) .It did have the standard 410 suspension (you can have standard 400 suspension or "race" option). So the one I drove wasn't that different from the 400 . Take a "standard" 410 and I can believe it is relatively "raw" - but I suspect many 410 buyers will (as Porsche GT3 and GT4 owners do) spec back a fair number of "comfort" options.
I guess everyone has different definitions of raw. For me, I relate this to the mechanical feedback, steering and engagement. The Exige 350 I drove had air con, bluetooth, cruise control & leather. This didn't make it any less raw as a driving machine.

I remember taking my GTS to an Audi dealer who couldn't stop talking about how nice the TTRS sounded. After the test drive (which was sheeeeet btw), I told him to accompany me back to the car. I fired up the engine, revved it a little and he couldn't believe it was a stock exhaust.

The exhaust note is a massive selling point for any sports car and the GTS is a glorious sounding machine.

I’ll remember that one when I take an Alpine out for a test drive biggrin

Not sure what point you are making - I don't get the appeal of aping poor carburation of yesteryear (the farts, pops and crackles) whether it is in an Alpine or anything else, when fuel injection has long since been able to prevent it. I am sure it will irritate the hell out of me that I can't get rid of the silly noises on the Alpine (as it does on the 718) when you switch into Sport mode and it buggers up the anti-lag. I'm sure there are other "endearing" features of yesteryear that we could bring back - who wouldn't love a bit of "pinking" now and then, and, of course, really sporty engines run on for quite a few seconds after switching off the ignition.

Ugh, I cringe at the sound of the GTS, or any post 2012 Porche with PSE. That fake, contrived exhaust note that always sounds the same regardless of what the engine is actually doing, and the crackles, because race car.

The previous generation cars sounded so much more mechanical even though they have essentially the same engine but as we know Porsche have shifted their target audience so they have changed to something that'll impress the mainstream, init.

My 981 GTS sounds even better than my 993 with RSR (which is not artificial in any way). Yep you can say Porsche had a target audience with the 981 and I accept that is not for everyone but that does not mean it is not one of the sweetest sounding sports cars you can buy no matter how artificial it may be. It will be one of the last cars you can buy that sounds that way.

Do you not think that all super cars (which is what I compare a 981 GTS to in terms of sound which is a massive compliment in itself) are not “tuned” to sound good when they don;t need to be, its a large part of what makes a sports car an emotional experience (for most!) ie they are all artificial nowadays in one way or another.

So that's you, me and Henry Catchpole in agreement then. Clearly I'm not on my own with my way of thinking wink
I’m with you, I miss mine, the 991.2 gts is good, but I want it to sound like my Boxster gts did. Tunnels were epic.

I said when I owned it that it was one of the best cars I’ve ever heard, and certainly for under 100k

I was thinking about this thread while having my lunch earlier, and how Porsche ownership can be seen to be centred around validation of your choice from others. As "Cayman scum" (as my wife calls it given the non-interest we get from snooty 911 owners out and about) I've realised that I actually don't give a flying hoot what other people think, and I don't have to prove or justify my choice of car or opinions to anyone.

My name is Dave. I own a manual 981 Cayman GTS in Carrara White Metallic. I love the way it drives and sounds, I think it's an absolutely fantastic car and I make no apology for singing its praises biggrin

Well I’m with you Dave. I’m Mike, 2014 Blue Cayman GTS manual with X73 suspension and PSE.
A devine drive, the only short coming was the PCM unit. Swapped it for an Pioneer Apple CarPlay head unit.
Now it’s perfect.
As an aside I tried a 997 GTS before I bought the Cayman.
Cayman was a way more involving drive IMO.

+1. I rarely switch on the PSE. The regular sound is the better.

Under WOT the noise is sweet through the rev range.

Unless you wire them shut! Far more pleasant that way.
