I'd want a manual gearbox, and the 7-speed in the 991.1 GTS or S is not as good as the Cayman. As for a 911T, the turbos would be an issue for me.
The 718 GT4 has the awful interior vents and sports chrono clock location, a fat backside, ugly reflectors in the rear bumper and will have a restricted engine with GPFs. I want to like it enough to fight for an allocation slot, but I just can't get excited about it
And agree as well, never been a fan of 718 style vs 981 apart from steering wheel, lol.The 718 GT4 has the awful interior vents and sports chrono clock location, a fat backside, ugly reflectors in the rear bumper and will have a restricted engine with GPFs. But 718 GT4 exteriors at least front look at least same or better than 981.
Issue I have with lack of excitement driven by being still a Cayman.
I strongly think I need a GT3 or 570S, nothing at the moment can firmly replace the 981, unless GT4 come with such an improvement compared to last one that means it becomes a sort of mid engine GT3, less weight less power but overall almost same performance, which I know will be almost impossible...

Difficult to know what for though Jay imo. Besides GT4/ Spyder i can't really see where you'd go next without spending a hell of a lot more and ending up with ridiculous running costs. The only reasonably priced alternative I could see right now is the exige S3 mules spending 20k more on GT4/Spyder. That said Beedubs z4 is for sale in the classifieds. It deserves a look. 500bhp with suspension and brakes to match. I think it'd be perfect for you.
R8 v10? Dropping in price and 570s will be 10 quid next week lol. Thats a mental spec Z4, but im not too botbered about a road sports/super car at the mo. I might look at a 360 Manual at some point for road. Modern cars for road fun are abit meh.

Why aren't you at least considering the Alpine A110 if you are thinking of a fun road car?JayK12 said:
Cause its dog ugly , silly expansive and the engine is abit wack.
Can't help feeling that if it had a Porsche badge you'd think it pretty (most do) , better value than a 718 (it is if you look at it objectively) and that the engine was a much nicer than a 718 (most testers would agree)bcr5784 said:

Comparing it to a 718 engine isn't exactly a high water mark though is it? Twinfan said:

Don't want to get embroiled in the 981vs 718 engine debate - it's been done to death. My original post was in response to the mention of FUN. What I would say is that I found the 981S less fun than I hoped - certainly at sane speeds, and would doubtless find the 718 lacking in that department too - but the Alpine doesn't disappoint in the fun stakes at all - and chassis, gearbox AND engine all contribute without venturing into licence losing speeds.. The only cars I have driven that are more fun on the road, such as Caterhams, are not sensible dailies.bcr5784 said:

Have to agree with bcr. I moved from a X73 manual CGTS with PCCBs to the A110. The CGTS is highly accomplished and probably slightly better looking to my eyes. It wasn't nearly as much fun though in almost every situation I can recall. I can only describe the ownership of the Cayman as "satisfying" whereas the A110 has been a lot more fun. Residuals aren't too bad either.Prestonese said:

wow funny to read that... i currently have a CGTS 981, x73 manual pccb and bucket seats but i also have an order on the a110 alpine pure, and will be delivered in september. i test drove the a110 a lot, and agreed it is much better fun to drive than the cgts, and this despite the engine which is miles better on the cgts. i am currently thinking of what i will do with my cgts, keep it or sell it. both residuals are great!

Keep it. It will be very sought after in that spec.i am currently thinking of what i will do with my cgts, keep it or sell it. both residuals are great!
Just got an OPC 4 yr service quote.
All prices include VAT:
4 yr major service £733
Additional maintenance £57 (check ancillary unit mounts and rubber mounts)
Spark plugs £268
Drive belt check £49
Tyre sealant £71
Brake fluid £120
I was expecting £975 for the major service + £120 brake fluid (inc VAT) per the fixed pricing on the website. I'm sure I read the major used to be around £650ish a couple of years back?
Has the pricing gone up or just this OPC not charging the fixed pricing?

Doesn't sound like they're charging fixed price servicing with the two extra checks being added. Spark plugs are always extra, as is the tyre sealant and brake fluid.
EDIT: it looks like fixed pricing has changed, in which case the OPC you've spoken to isn't part of the deal.
According to the new price list, £975 should cover everything, including plugs, brake fluid and tyre sealant. I think that means it's now cheaper than it used to be?

I've had a few OPC quotes, best I could get was Cambridge was about 900 odd, Silverstone wanted £1400.
Thats for a Cayman S though not GTS
Prices do differ wildly, even if they are on the fixed price scheme. I did a lot of phoning round and saved over £300 going to another a bit further than my local.Thats for a Cayman S though not GTS
Quite how they justify these differences is beyond me!

No, because it is dog ugly.
What you mean is you don't like (hate) the looks. If you have actually seen one in the metal and that is your view and you can't get past it (as YOUR view) , then I can't argue - it's a completely subjective view and as valid as any to the contrary. It's very much a minority view (and almost exclusively confined to some Porsche owners it seems), but perfectly valid nontheless. That said, more often than not (and I DO mean that literally) , if I go to the local supermarket or petrol station someone comes up to me and says what a lovely car - crappety crap etc, passers by give you the thumbs up and so on. If you are a shrinking violet like me, it's almost embarrassing. Of course they wouldn't come up to me and say "Couldn't help noticing what an ugly car you have" and there may, of course, be hordes thinking that - but I have my doubts.
