OK, it's still something of a mystery. Is it going to be great, is it not? Is it going to be a run out model for the current 718 in 2021. Is it going to be heavier and slower than a 4 pot 718, just to make the point? Is it going to have a 4.0 NA Flat 6 and if so will that be related to the GT engine? Will it have the GT3 suspension? Can you get yourself on the list? Can you trust an OPC with £3k? Can you trust Porsche with £3k?

I watched a road test which suggested that this time the Spyder is not less dynamic than the GT4. If so, is a Spyder the thing to go for if you can't get a GT4 which I totally can't?

Finally, it occurred to me, not for the first time, that PCGB is maybe the source of a lot of this trouble. I might just save up and go into an OPC in Deutschland and buy a GT4, like a normal person. Yes, it will be LHD. So what?
If you order from Europe they are obliged to supply you a RHD if requested for the same price ....

I am on a (ever growing) list with my OPC for a flat 6 GTS or whatever it may be called. Something is happening with the GTS as there are no build slots available for Q1 for Cayman GTS, porsche only do this when they are changing specs/models in a lineup.

There have been numerous 'spy' videos of caymans and boxters at the ring with the GT4 style rear end and exhaust setup and also a flat 6 sounding engine.Question is when do we think Porsche would announce? LA Motor show perhaps?
You can get a build slot for a gts boxster though?

I’m seriously looking at the new Spyder provided a PDK variant is available later in the year. Trouble for me is my love for the CGTS.

I know we are only hear once but the 981 £ for £ still represents fabulous value and will always be a great road car.

If I do decide to go for a Spyder (subject to availability) then it will be low spec...

I'm with you. My GT4 arrives in March but I'm really, really going to miss my GTS. Such a great car - seriously great all round motoring for under £50k.

Are UK dealers actually accepting 'walk in' orders for the Spyder, or are they all sold?

Just spec'd a Spyder to c.£84k and could probably make my budget work. But I always assumed I'd have no chance so have not even bothered approaching anyone.

Go and talk to your OPC - or try a few - make sure you have your £3K to hand - you might get lucky.

Autocar’s review of new cars expected for 2020 have given April as the introduction for the six cylinder 718 GTS.
Curved ball for me is great car that it will undoubtedly be is it really worth £40k or thereabouts more than my current 981 Boxster GTS? My conclusion is that it isn’t.

If there is any way of you keeping both temporarily I would. I had a highly spec'd 981 CS (manual) from new in 2015 (basically mechanically similar to your GTS except for the extra 5 bhp or whatever), and then moved on to a used 981 GT4. Still miss the CS as the better all-round package on the road. Extensive track usage was no contest obviously - GT4 more suited to the job.

I only need one car, and only for weekends/fun, so keeping the GTS isn't practical or of any benefit to me unfortunately...

Interestingly, I had a GT4, GT3 Touring and 981'S'.

Sold the 981'S' when the GT3 arrived, but really missed it for real world driving, so bought a 981 GTS.
Two years on, only the GTS remains. The GT4 was brilliant on track, but my son and daughter used to go through a set of tyres in a day rolleyes (so bought their old race G40 and upgraded with slicks for fun) and the GT3 proved too frustrating as a road car in the UK.

I meant temporarily until you've got to know the GT4. Once the GTS is gone, it's gone!

Yep, that's true! I think I'd always pick the 718 GT4 to drive if both were available though, plus I don't have the parking space for both laugh

I haven’t been watching this thread for a while, maybe that emphasises the U turn on GTS Vs. GT4. I remember you used to argue relentlessly that a GTS was a better car for the road.

Interested to know what changed your view.

I always said a 981 GTS a better car for me and my use, and with the new GTS 4.0 on the scene that's still the case I'm sure.

I've always liked the GT4 but couldn't justify the cost to change to a used one, especially as I don't go on track. I was offered a 718 GT4 slot that I could spec so I've taken it because I fancy owning one. It's as simple as that.

He got an allocation, that simple imo.

He also loved a good exhaust note and now doesn't now he has a muted one.

Frustrating to say the least.

We had 4 years of GTS is the perfect car on every thread, and now I feel we will have 4 years of the GT4 being the perfect car.

Both are great cars, but when I owned my GT4, Spyder and GTS I was a 100% honest about my reviews and their floors.

Sadly with twinfan the cars are 100% perfect. Well depending which he has.

I cancelled my order on the 718 spyder, bought an alpine which I thing it is a even better car than cgts on Uk roads and looking to sell my cgts 981 (x73, bucket, ptv, manual 😉) for a more track focused car (exige 410 or 97 gt3)

Seriously considering a 981 Cayman GTS next.
Must be manual, not fussy about other options. Most colours considered, except yellow/white/green.
Message me please if you are looking to sell soon. Thanks.
