I always said a 981 GTS a better car for me and my use, and with the new GTS 4.0 on the scene that's still the case I'm sure.

I've always liked the GT4 but couldn't justify the cost to change to a used one, especially as I don't go on track. I was offered a 718 GT4 slot that I could spec so I've taken it because I fancy owning one. It's as simple as that.
I used to own a full speced 981 Cayman GTS, marvalous car but the steering, the 981 GT4 steered much much better in that respect, that is the reason for me not to want a 718 GTS but only the 718 GT4

There are a few manual 981 GTS for sale - there is some overlap in pricing with the 718 GTS.

As I learnt when selling my own CGTS, the options that one might think would be valued may not be and others are deemed essential - parking sensors are a deal breaker for some.

yes i noticed that... few manual out there indeed. parking sensor, dual air con, bucket seats, sport chassis and so on can be deal breaker. i've followed this thread since i bought mine 3y ago and yeah i agree spec expectations can vary a lot. mine is more like a drivers car (just like the review from Sutcliffe, autocar)

Seriously considering a 981 Cayman GTS next.
Must be manual, not fussy about other options. Most colours considered, except yellow/white/green.
Message me please if you are looking to sell soon. Thanks.
Sent you a message Swanny.

I haven’t been watching this thread for a while, maybe that emphasises the U turn on GTS Vs. GT4. I remember you used to argue relentlessly that a GTS was a better car for the road.

Interested to know what changed your view.
So when you couldn't get one they were worse for your use case than a GTS but now when you can get one they are better, thanks for clearing that up.

You seem very touchy about my choice - are you really 911R in disguise? wink

I fancy trying a 718 GT4 built to my spec. It has nothing to do with "use cases" or one car being "better" than another.

Not touchy at all, I'm very happy with my 991.2 GT3 which is spooky similar spec to 911R's.

I fail to see what the GTS 4.0 has to do with you deciding suddenly that a GT4 (of either variety) is a more suitable car for you than your 981 GTS after you spent so long saying just the opposite.

I've never said that a 718 GT4 is a more suitable car for me.

You buying a GT4 to replace your GTS says that you think it is a better car for you.

Since you don't seem to be capable of following simple logic I won't reply again and I'll go back to not reading this thread. Enjoy the GT4.

I'm sure I will. I think I'll enjoy it more than my GTS, but not because I think its a better fit for my use.

Without having to trawl 365 pages and mistaken arguments, is the Electric steering on the 981 a real bummer compared to the Hydro on the 987 R please ?
Be interesting if anyone here has followed one with the other.

Not quite as much feel, but not the absolute catastrophe that some people claim it is. Certainly very accurate

The Sutciffe GTS vid was most gushing.....
4mins 35 secs in.....

" the nicest steering of any sports car on sale......it is delicious the steering on this car ".....

He did the similar gush with the i30N and since that euphoric launch vid I've heard more lukewarm reviews....not as good as the Civic....too heavy....etc etc

It will be interesting to see how I find the helm once I get my first drive.

It depends how much you value steering feel, people's opinions differ. I find the 981 less feelsome but you get used to it. It's accurate and nicely weighted.

It’s fine - and in no way does it dampen the experience. Excellent cars, I’ve owned two of them.

The EPAS is used by people who seek an excuse to hate the car, but really it’s a very well judged road going sports car. I enjoyed every second driving it.
