Went an saw a Carmine red GTS Cayenne today. A lovely colour but I'm going to save £1600 as I prefer Guards red. I was surprised the Carmine is a flat colour and can't fathom how it can be worth the extra money?

The car also had the gloss black wheels. They looked fantastic but already have the odd chips in the enamel which makes them a no for me also.

So Guards Red with Satin wheels for me.

I had gloss black wheels on my Spyder and they were chipped to buggery in no time at all.
Now done in satin platinum and as good as the day they were done 6 months ago.

Out of interest is that a common occurrence with gloss black wheels regardless of manufacturer or is it more Porsche specific? I've just spec'd my F-Type coupe to have them so I'm intrigued. Have only ever had silver or diamond cut wheels before. Had the Carrera Classics on my 981 that I've just gotten rid of, no problems there.

Admittedly my wheels weren't black from the factory but painted by my OPC, so probably better done by the factory?

My Satin Platinum wheels have a few chips in the rears, at only 2.5k miles, but the good news is that the undercoat is black, so they don't show up too badly?

The Cayenne I saw was only a few months old and you could clearly see the odd chips. As I intend to keep my car a good while I'm going to pass on the gloss wheels though I must say they do look good....

The satin is amazingly easy to keep clean - in fact, even when they're stted up they still look clean.

Still considering what to do - nearly new Cayman S, new GTS or try to pick up a stock Cayman S. I'm going to need finance and there is a better deal on offer for Boxsters according to the Porsche website.

I also don't see why Carmine Red is £1500 - it should really be the same price as the other solid colours.

I'm pretty conservative - I like Dark Blue (Have Seal Grey at present)

I've left the exterior black bits black as for me they complement the front and rear trays.
get the GTS exterior black package and remove all that cheap unpainted black plastic .. includes the roll bars, so a real bargain smile

Firstly a big thanks to the PH'ers that advised me in my original thread back in December, decided to wait for the GTS and ordered last week, so due to be joining the Cayman club this summer smile

My build http://www.porsche-code.com/PF1YC3A5 focusses mainly on driving aspects and tech/comms after garnishing as much info as possible from forums, a couple of dealers and a number of test drives. I am really more interested in the GT part than the S, so would have probably been happy with a well-sprecced S and haven't gone for the Carmine Red exterior, black wheels or any of the GTS packs and have even removed the alcantara, a travesty to the GTS moniker, sorry. The red GTS on the Porsche website looks fantastic though.

A couple of points regarding the Cayman/S/GTS after my first new car buying experience, that may help others that are in a similar position:

1. The Cayman was the first car I drove after first looking for a 'drivers car' with c.300bhp, RWD/AWD, auto and plenty of toys. BIG MISTAKE. Everything else paled in comparison, from there the cars I then looked at including the S3, M135i and A45 and even though they made far more sense from a practical aspect, a number of drives later, the Cayman is just THAT good. Even driving the standard non-S last week, the engine and drive is fantastic and really put a smile on my face.

2. As others have said, the GTS actually works out cheaper than a comparable S, certainly my build did. The fact that PASM, Sports Exhaust, S/D steering wheel, full leather interior, TPM, Bi Xenon lights with PDSL, tinted tail lights, Sports Chrono, Door Decals and even floor mats are included as standard help mitigate the £6.5k difference in base price with the S.

3. The options are a bottomless list to hell, the first proper S build I did was a £65.5k with 18.5k of that as options. That's just crazy thinking about it. As others have said the options are fairly personal and you will get so many different views that to some extent it doesn't matter that much, think about what you will appreciate and decide if it's worth the asking price. My take on it is that if you are looking at the options list wondering what you should go for is to go in a particular direction, in my case I wanted more of a GT car, hence have specced mostly driver aids and gadgets. Other may have focussed on getting the look of the car more on par by adding colour coding and more leather/aluminium/carbon. My only treat in this department was the longer door sill, which will be my little secret most of the time. My final build took 10 or so rounds on the configurator.

4. Having said that, here some things I certainly took heed from various sources- Smokers Package is free adds an extra cigarette lighter socket and makes the centre dash neater looking. ISOFIX is required to add the ability to switch off the passenger airbag and is certainly handy if you will ever carry little people, for the cost it's 1/4 price of a retrofit. Why this isn't standard is baffling.

So yes, can't wait. Has anyone got their build date yet? I see Budweiser saw one, where was that? They must be starting production soon.

Some things remain a mystery:- Is PTV really worth it? What the hell are 'online services'? And are they a better option than a foot rest in aluminium?

I'm checking in with my dealership this week to see if I at least have an allocation/build slot, but not yet. I've heard of some folks having tentative completion dates in the first week of July. At least here in the US, it's seeming like August delivery.

As for PTV, you get a mechanical locking LSD with it, in addition to the brake-based torque vectoring.. Without it, your only option is an open diff.

As for value for money, I'll be getting an "exactly as I want it" GTS for a few hundred dollars cheaper than a stripped, bare bones 911 Carrera with PDK. I'd never consider a 911 aside from a GTS or GT3, in which I'm talking ~50-60% more money out the door equipped, and in the case of the GT3, comparatively brutal maintenance costs. With a long-term car, I'm looking at eventual engine rebuilds, which puts owning a GT3 way out of my price range (for a rebuild, cost is tripled).

painted plastic will chip to fook and look very poor in 6 months time imo (I guess it will have white primer under it) , I would stay with plastic.
ALso you can then colour code the wing mirrors back to the body colour as they look st half black.

Say whaaaat. I was hoping for a May build, June delivery. You've specced a proper GTS there, can't believe how much the UK get's slapped on the options, the telephone module is $300 but over £500 here, what gives?

Just had a call from my OPC offering me a June car YES...

Apparently once the final spec is locked down it takes approx 10 days for the car to arrive.

This would have been their demo vehicle but it's mine if I want it.. Guess what I said...

Off to see them with the family tomorrow night to sort out the spec..

Will let you know how we get on..

Hey Budweiser, good to hear you've been offered a June build. I'm hoping for the same as I want to take the car to the Italian lakes in the summer.

I have been talking to Guildford and East London and have been reassured I am top of the queue for both dealers. I'm hedging my bets to see who can get me a car soonest and order with them.

Didn't hear from either of them today however as they were expecting to know their allocation later on this week. May i ask which dealer you are speaking with?

I am going for a Black/Agate Grey, Carrera S Classics, Manual, Bose, Heated Seats, 18-way adaptive seats. If i go Agate grey i may go for the Platinum satin's as they look fantastic but I dont think they would go with a Black Cayman.
I've asked if they can changing the badging on the back of the car from black to chrome so it will show on a black car! it's the little things that matter!
