question for 981 manual guys: has anyone shortened their gearing through RPM? is it reliable/enjoyable?
I can't be sure that there is only one 4.44 final drive for the 981/987 but the only experience I am aware of is in competition, where they have proved very fragile.

With the GT3 prices now just about within reach, man maths taken into account, I'll be trading my GTS in next month. (Oct). Just had the four year service and two new front pirellis. Racing yellow PDK with PCCB, buckets, X73, PTV, PDSL, Nav, GTS interior with red stitch, DAB, Climate, film and ceramic coating. Cherished 33k miles. I bought new.

I suppose this is against forum rules but I won't be advertising it I don't think. Hope I don't regret getting a GT3

not sure i'd go through all that hassle and expense for something that leaves 1st and 2nd untouched. if anything they are the 2 gears i'd be most interested in shortening.

I've run a high spec 981 GTS and GT3 Touring back-to-back. The GT3 is more of an epic event and you do get a sense of cutting edge achievement. But, its qualities are barely accessible on UK roads and it is often quite frustrating - traffic congestion, roadworks, speed limits, potholes, noisy asphalt, social attitudes....... unless you put it on track occasionally it is wasted, IMO..

By contrast, the GTS is more enjoyable and more accessible, more of the time. And, for half the price, less financial concern - it's a better choice to jump-in and use day-to-day.

Thanks for the post, having tried a GT4 and reverted to the 981 I know that I may well come to the same conclusion, again. But the 991.2 GT3 in reach is an itch I Just can't resist. Having messed three dealers around changing my mind I've committed on one now and should collect this week, fingers crossed.

If anyone is interested in a set of perfect condition front Zunsport grills (you will need new clips) and a Porsche outdoor car cover for the 981 PM me.

Leicester will have a yellow GTS soon, unless they auction it off?!

Sales guy at Hatfield confirmed to me very recently of the 4.0 718 coming soon. Implied they may resurrect a previous denomination for it, but didn't say what. R?

be no such name. Cannot have 2 GTS models with 4 pot and 6 pot.

hard to know how they are going to pitch a flat 6 car while selling 4 pots.

Suddenly I am feeling a lot more positive about Porsche.

It's not the 'coin' that's the problem, as the article suggests, its getting on the list for one and a reluctance to pay a massive premium for a second hand one. I can't imagine it will be much cheaper than a GT4.

Th real question will be what differentiates it from the GT4 apart from the badge? Not that it matters. A 4 litre flat 6 in a 718 Cayman, sounds perfect.

"GT4 Touring" Does that appeal to anyone?

not sure they are still taking order on 4pots.
6pots on gts is definitely coming according to CEO of Porsche France (when i wrote this it came from ceo of 3 French OPC). first deliveries are for 2nd half of 2020.
they will ditch the 4pots. at last, custies will have choice on the engine turbo and n/a.

OK, it's still something of a mystery. Is it going to be great, is it not? Is it going to be a run out model for the current 718 in 2021. Is it going to be heavier and slower than a 4 pot 718, just to make the point? Is it going to have a 4.0 NA Flat 6 and if so will that be related to the GT engine? Will it have the GT3 suspension? Can you get yourself on the list? Can you trust an OPC with £3k? Can you trust Porsche with £3k?

I watched a road test which suggested that this time the Spyder is not less dynamic than the GT4. If so, is a Spyder the thing to go for if you can't get a GT4 which I totally can't?

Finally, it occurred to me, not for the first time, that PCGB is maybe the source of a lot of this trouble. I might just save up and go into an OPC in Deutschland and buy a GT4, like a normal person. Yes, it will be LHD. So what?

I am on a (ever growing) list with my OPC for a flat 6 GTS or whatever it may be called. Something is happening with the GTS as there are no build slots available for Q1 for Cayman GTS, porsche only do this when they are changing specs/models in a lineup.

There have been numerous 'spy' videos of caymans and boxters at the ring with the GT4 style rear end and exhaust setup and also a flat 6 sounding engine.Question is when do we think Porsche would announce? LA Motor show perhaps?

Sales guy at Hatfield recently told me it's due soon, 4.0, and implied it could a more historic name. R, Touring, who knows, but it looks like it's coming.
